I've played the Mass Effect 3 demo many times now and I'd like to know if there will be any mini games in the full Mass Effect 3 game. As I've said before on the issue of mini games I hates mini games!

Right sadly Mass Effect 3 will keep the mining mini-game, "it serves a purpose"

Casey Hudson of BioWare confirms the return of the planet scanning mini-game, where players plunder worlds for resources for their ship.

It will be in Mass Effect 3 - "functionally" has purpose, with feedback saying it was "strangely addictive". Didn't expect fans to strip mine galaxy.

"The feedback we had prior to releasing the game was generally exactly that. It was like, 'It's strangely addictive. It's kind of therapeutic'. But there were different personality types, too," lead producer Hudson tells VideoGamer.com in an interview (Link).

"And one of the personality types that we hadn't encountered was there were a lot of people that when they know that they can go and get resources through something like that, they literally want to mine the entire galaxy that night."

"And then, yeah, when you spend eight hours in a mini-game, it does become… there's only so much too it. And we never expected that it'd be played that way."

"We thought people would noodle in it a bit, get a few resources to get an upgrade, and then go back and do the rest of the game," he continued.

They need the mining min-game for the next sequel - it servers a vital role in feeding the player resources which can then be spent on investing in new technology. Ship upgrades and better weaponry or armour relied on several types of mineral.

"Again, when you look at the feedback, there are things that people liked about it, and functionally it serves a purpose. I don't think there's a problem with any of those."

"I think it's the way people relied on it, and the way we relied on it maybe too much in parts of the story. And also just when you think about the speed of it," noted Hudson.

So we can likely expect an improved mining scanner next time around, with the greater galaxy picked clean in the name of war against the Reapers. Mass Effect 3 won't be unveiling to us for "quite a few months" yet warns Hudson, but DLC will stream (Link).

Thanks for the reply but will planet scanning be the ONLY mini game in Mass Effect 3? At least I hope it is the only mini game.

Planet scanning returns, yes, but not in the same form as in ME2.

"Planetary exploration is here in terms of being able to go to various systems in order to check out each system's planets. However, the planetary scanning system made famous (or infamous, depending on how you look at it) in Mass Effect 2 has been largely removed. You won't be mining for minerals and ore anymore. Instead, you'll be scanning each system more generally, looking for special features worth exploring. These features will then allow you to launch probes, find free fuel, and occasionally reveal a special item needed for a side quest, or a side quest itself.

The thing is, scanning systems has side effects, specifically drawing the attention (and subsequent ire) of the Reapers. The Reapers have sprung to life throughout the galaxy, and you can find them rather easily across the galaxy map. But even in places where the Reapers aren't, they could easily be tipped off to your location and come storm your position. If they do, you need to make haste towards the nearest Mass Relay before your ship is seized and destroyed by the Reaper forces."

No clue about the other mini games though.

"Remember the good old days when you could just slap Omni-Gel on everything?" - Shepard, ME2

I can not find any other data. But I do not think the hacking mini game is in it.

    Lol @ Casey Hudson.

Mine once, get upgrade, continue playing? If I can mine the entire Galaxy in one night and have enough resources to keep me going through 70% of the game...!

The trainer here on CH for ME2 is invaluable with its resource adding, 'cause after a few dozen playthroughs it becomes -such- a mindless, boring, and automatic thing to do. Trainer? Activat-activa-activated-ac-ac-ac-ac-ac-activated. There, all done! Quick economic, and very friendly to the enviroment.

I can tell you one thing... opening encrypted doors (in ME2) usually had a minigame attached to it, and in the ME3 demo it did not. That may just mean that they weren't done with that part yet, but let's just hope it stays that way.

the code for hacking mini games and for the other mini games that we had for the last trainer was in the demo, even though it wasn't incorporated into the demo gameplay-

whether or not this will be in the final game is speculation, but i'd say likely since the code is still there-
