Let's see how the game is when it comes out.
After all this is just a GAME. Do we really need to get that worked up over a game
I reserve the right to substantiate the difference between a really good story and a game. Which also happen to be the same thing, in some cases.
But yes, that is pretty much the conclusion that the arms race of escalating wordy mcwordwords was. If they can handle it well, then it's really just a case of bad timing and marketing (for EA, at least) on the leak's part. If not, then... Well, I'm not going to lie, I really didn't like that giant liquefied-human Reaper baby for the same reason.
I'm pretty sure everyone was in awe with the mystique of ME1. If you boiled it straight to the core, it was orcs and elves, but with giant laser beams. I don't think anyone will try to argue that point - if a really Orky Orc threw out his back and reversed his legs, he'd be a Krogan.
And nobody who really "got it" didn't sit there and revel in each of the races' eccentricities. Man, those Volus sure like their credits! It's a shame they have to wear gasmasks after staying in their dwarfy mines too long.
But the fact that the Volus are the greedy little dwarves after getting into space, the Salarians are gnomes with two points on their "hats," none of that would dawn on anyone until far, far after they got through the game. Because their quirks were equal parts mysterious and majestic. Especially the Protheans.
The Reapers... Well, they were incredibly mysterious, but they accomplished it through pure dread. So when I found out they pretty much just wanted me to make babies, I was disappointed and hoped for the best, as I do now for this Prothean.
I know I said I wouldn't continue posting in this thread, but I thought I should point out I more or less want the same things every other ME fan does, and that I'm really not overanalyzing much. Most people enjoyed the same sense of discovery, so I articulating (a few of) your thoughts at the time you first played ME1/2, I guess.
Like I said earlier, my rage is over there simply being outrage, and over what I see as poor/lazy writing.
Right I have watched his video. Firstly he waffles on about FOV going against science. Well my statement to that is. Games do not have to match to real life stuff. Gees get a grip. Games are to take you away from real life. But anyways.
He then go's on about the demo. Which to me was AWESOME!!! Although I do think he over exaggerated how long the single player was. 1 hours no I would say 30 minutes at the most. Well that is for me playing. He go's on about the graphics of course there is a limit it is a demo! They are not going to cheathappens everything into the demo. I found the animation to be great nice quality and I have studied a lot of games due to my Course work on the subject. Voice acting to me as good quality as usual.
Now he then talks about an Art book you can buy with a DLC. WRONG! I have looked at there store and no art book comes with a DLC! (note I have looked at the other stuff Console Vault, Figures, Vespula Gaming Mouse Mat, Onza Xbox360 Controller, Chimaera Gaming Headset, Black widow Ultimate Gaming Keyboard, Imperator Gaming Mouse come with a bonus code for the multi player side Note thats an extra! Which they code not have put in it). People need to stop complaining this is marketing. You wont get everything for free and also wont get everything in same thing to! If people are willing to pay for the extra content so be it! I certainly would not give it away free! Thats just not good business.
Now it go's on Mass Effect iOS game will change your Mass Effect 3 experience, Now I am not to bothered about this as I do not have an iOS device. Although I am curious as to what it will change. So I looked and found this. The game is called Mass Effect: Infiltrator, every prisoner you rescue will count towards the "Galaxy at War" mode in ME3, which influences how the story plays out. So this will make it more interesting I suppose for iOS users. But then again are you willing to fork out what ever they are going to be asking for it just to influence your Mass Effect 3 game slightly? Me nope! Again more marketing.
Now he says Bad Business. To me I do not see this as bad Business. I see this as pure covering marketing. Heck I even used this tactic in my old marketing job. Hit every thing. If the product is great and people loved the past ones there will be people who will buy it. Now al point out that there is more noise from complainers than people who like it. You ask why? Maybe. Cause those that openly say they like it are attacked by the vast haters, so they end up just shutting up and not speaking there voice. Which to be is bad!
I wonder what would we do if companies just stopped making games, Cause they got off from all the cry babies. (Now do not post they would not do that, I want you to actually think what would we do if they did!)
Now he go's on about the DLC that was accidentally leaked. Now considering that Microsoft control EVERYTHING on there Market for the XBOX calls me to go. Oh look another Marketing tactic. Which to me again not bothered about. Now the new character is a Prothean. OK interesting. What new stuff will I find out. He then states that the content is not widely available to everyone. Um Hello you just told us we could buy it for $10!!! He then said that the game is not complete. Na the game is complete just means they are going to be more DLC's which is good.
Oh god ethics. Here we go brining ethics into it. Gees stop crying! Its a marketing they will do it how they want to sell it. Know what am not going to bother going on more I got tired of watching him moan like girl.
(oh please note this was being typed since this morning UK time. Distraction from the GF)
From the demo, the FOV is indeed set too low for my taste as well as many other. When it is set that low, I can't play for more than an hour before I start getting sick. There should be an in-game option to change FOV or at the very least, an easy way to edit setting file.
As for nonessential DLC such as weapons, armors, alternate appearances, etc, I don't really care about. However, I question bioware's decision to make a prothean squadmate, includes all dialogue and interactions with other characters in the base game, and then cutting them out to make it dlc. Why a prothean, who is essentially tie to the main plotline, and not James Vega, who's Jacob Alliance counterpart?
On the business side, no company will stop making games just because there are critics, admittedly very vocal critics. To suggest that they will is against what a business is for, to make money. On that subject, Bioware and EA will be raking in money in the short term. There is a massive demand for ME3 so people, myself included, will shell out as much as needed to complete Shepard's trilogy. However, in the long term, isolating your fans will lead to sale problems for new titles in which people are more reserved and not invested in the storyline from past games.
Let's see how the game is when it comes out.

I know I said I was out of this topic too, but as long as we're steering away from the pros/cons of the DLC and whether it's right/wrong blah blah, I'll put another appearance in and say I actually agree with a lot of this.
I had no complaints about ME2 or the story, but I think you hit the nail on the head about the Reapers. ME1 gave you a sense of dread when you see how much it took to take down 1 Reaper, and for the most game the Reaper itself was dark and mysterious, so when you found out a whole fleet of them were due to arrive and wipe out all living life it was a holy-****-balls-****-****-holy hell moment.
ME2 kinda dragged that feeling away. I mean, obviously there was going to come a time when the fleet had to be revealed along with their motives, what they really do, etc etc, along with what happened to the Protheans, but still... I think that could have been played out a little better, with far more suspense and shock/awe. We know the writers at BW are capable of it.
I read somewhere that the Prothean squad mate was going to look a lot like the collectors, so what I wanna know is have BW decided to change the look of the Protheans from the statues we've seen to a similar appearance in their form as Collectors, or is he a Collector turned good? It's probable that not all of the Collectors were on the base when you blew it/killed everything on it, so there may be more somewhere in the galaxy, but what would that mean? That the Reapers control over the Collectors was as flimsy as a signal of some sort installed into the base?
Bah, too many questions and not enough answers. Only 14 days left to find out I guess (two weeks has never seemed so far away)
On the subject of DLC though, I believe we're our own worst enemies. Kotaku has an interview with someone who makes a clearer case for this than I probably could.
"The truth is, if items like map packs, DLC missions and pre-order bonuses didn't sell, they wouldn't exist. Plain and simple. With each new bold "affront" to gamers, these companies are testing the waters to see just how far they can go with an a-la-carte model. Do you think if no one had ever bought the first Call of Duty map pack, that they would have kept making more?"

And then there's this *******.

The only thing that gets me excited about this DLC is the Prothean companion. I have had so much of Protheans in the first two games that I need one fighting by my side - Just like I have Legion to make up for a Geth.
Now it's about time BioWare created a friendly Reaper.
Well you might get that in a DLC. So much can be done in this last ep of this series.
Let's see how the game is when it comes out.

Believe me I get why some people are complaining. I think the story was better in ME1 and I also didn't care for the human reaper that much in ME2. However, for a combination of reasons I liked ME2 better but that's just me.
Hopefully ME3 will have a better story but I will reserve judgment until the game actually comes out
Should probably read the back and forth that followed for basically an entire page where me and Skyheart basically break down why TB was mad, why I was mad, and why people are mad. The latter two are entirely different things that make up the former, and then some. So just to clarify the context, since it was apparently not clear in what someone directly said in a video's narration:
The Digital Deluxe Edition comes with a digital artbook, and that is the version he is talking about. Link Link
The former link is D2D/Gamefly with the art book part explicitly prefaced by "Digital Art Book," the latter the Origin store's page that does not preface it, but includes the fact that there is one. He does not say it is DLC at any time - it is included with the DDE, which also includes the ingame DLC stuff.
Basically, he is demonstrating that they are being asinine. You pay the same for the N7 as the DDE, you get less stuff in the DDE, and more of it goes to the developer if you buy digitally.
That's all I have to say on the matter, and in this thread, because I am tired of thinking about it.
So go forth my children, and contextualize.
I was going to buy digital, until I saw that the digital version had less stuff in it.
Then I thought, nice try EA/Bioware, and promptly ordered a physical copy of N7 CE.
@Skyheart
I asked that question a few pages back, about the Prothean appreance.
