I recommend getting the new Re-rekoning game and use the current trainer for that. The new version has fixed a lot and the trainer for that has not caused 1 issue at all for me. The main quest line can still bug on the old game and has nothing to do with the trainer, it is when the quest line splits and you progress too far ahead in either Alyn Shir's line or Agarth's line, can't remember which. There is no fix for the original, you need to start a new game or have a save before the point where the quest line breaks.
