Header says it all, which side should I choose and why? I did the Stormcloak quest and saved before I took the oath and I really don't like the outcome as of yet. So I saved my current game as a stromcloak and I am looking for other options.

Well, are you an imperial Hard ass?, or a storm cloak with a tale so cunning you could call him a weasel? On my first run through I chose neither side, with some very intriguing results. On subsequent playthroughs i've picked both sides. If your looking for a harder than most quest storyline, i'd pick either side off the bat. For me it would have to be storm cloaks. Just dont like those dang thalmor and the cloak and dagger business.

Do both! Playing Skyrim with only 1 Character is a waste!

Both sides are essentially the same in terms of gameplay, only with different virtues/morals/dialects, etc.
As for finding out which one you want to join, well, it's up to you. If you're just barely into the game I suggest waiting for a bit and finding out more about the world.

The more you travel, the more you'll know. And trust me, you couldn't avoid the stormcloaks/imperials if you tried.

I think this story line falls into a possible DLC to fight the Thalmor. hopefully it will be an addon for the empire/stormcloaks to push the thalmor out of skyrim. I hope so anyway as it gives me more excuse to kill the thamlmor when I see them around the world

Level 48 and I have got to that level by the way of misc. quests. Only completed Mage quest being I was leveling up skill levels with magic. I am a companion too. Being a Stormcloak would mean turning my back on the companions right?I haven't done any thieves stuff yet, still . I haven't went to the Brotherhood stuff yet either. I don't know how far I am into the actual game. I am torn here, I really am.

honestly the choice should have been made when escaping the prison as you learn alot of info even way back then. at end of day the choice is yours and story plays 100% same for both sides to extant i got bored of cival war on 2nd play for the other side. personally i went stormcloaks because i play the true nord hard-ass with a battle axe and the idea of battling for my heaven and for hte right to worship my god seemed a better cause than the imperials just trying to keep the peace in a loosing war.

Picking sides has NO EFFECT on the Companions or any other faction. The only noticeable difference is that if you pick the Imperials then your reception in Windhaven is not as friendly and the same goes for Solitude if you side with the Stormcloaks. The Civil War only affects your ability to hold the Main Quest Peace Conference and even that does not interfere with the main quest progressing to it's final conclusion.

129 hours played so far and i havnt chosen but if i had to choose one it would proberly be imp as well my charactor isnt a nord its a elf cant figure out which type of elf anymore think its the bosmer (woodelf) with darkend skin tones

but to be honest politics were never my strong point and why would any elf fight with the stormcloaks from what i was hearing ingame the stormcloaks want skyrim to be for nords only

but alas i dont plan to choose anytime soon as well i imagine there are another billion quests to finish in the mean time while they are infighting ill finish off the dragon threat and just go onto elsweyr (kinda hope to visit the sandy place)
