Ok so I like many people now have a 64bit OS. Trouble is you cant use the trainers for this game in x64. Thankfully all you have to do is (assuming you still have the disk or care) browse the contents of the game DVD. Then find "HGL_x86.msi". Open it and install the game that way! In glorious 32bit just as god intended.

I should probably mention that this method will do a clean install. This means that if the 64bit version is already installed you should probably remove it first.

It should also be noted that due to the manual patch files being unavailable after all this time, this method also means that it's impossible to patch the game, as the patch installer will see you have a 64-bit system and look for the game in the wrong place.

The launcher doesn't work for exactly the same reason.

The thing with the patches is that you need the patched executables (.exe) as well as the patched data files.

I found one work-around, but it's a bit of a time waster, and you'll need experience with virtual machines. Anyway, here it is if you want to give it a go:

Set up a virtual machine and install Windows XP (32-bit obviously) on the virtual machine.
Install Hellgate on both your 64-bit machine and 32-bit virtual machine.
Patch both versions of the game.
Copy the x86 SP and MP folders from the virtual machine to your 64-bit physical machine's installation folder.

That, in theory, should allow you to successfully play both versions of the game, patched, without problems. As I said though, I haven't tried this method myself since I don't have a Windows XP disc lying around, and it's rather time consuming.

Actually, having said that, any 32-bit Windows version should do the trick. I think XP is probably the easiest to deal with though (the virtual machine software is free though, just look up VMWare).
