Who cares about story? If I wanted a story I'd read a book. Gameplay is what matters the most to gamers and there's not enough NEW gameplay to warrant a whole new title IMHO. Agree with the OP that this series is just milking the market and could have been introduced as a $15 DLC on Steam instead.
im sorry did you even read the posts after the OP? it has been stated that this game franchise brought massive changes to each sequal that it would be impossible to sell it as DLC. unlike the fallout series this game changes dramaticly between versions.
the problem i am seeing is alot of people are comparing the changes in AC2 to ACB to ACR against the changes against AC1 and AC2. you have to remember though that they did major restruscters in that time and added ALOT of features to make AC2 less linear. its hard ot improve on that when no one is complaining about whats int he game anymore and every complains that they didn't add enough.
compared to any elderscrolls DLC or expansion ths game has made leaps and bounds. and if you do not care about story go play GTA assassins is ALWAYS about the story. even multiplayer ppl do it for the extra story elements

I care about the stories in games. I don't care how good the gameplay is. If the story isn't good I won't play it.
Games need to have good stories. Game-play can only get the same so far. As long as the story is good I will play it even if the game-play is crap.
Plus, it is kinda hard to add a bunch of new content when the game only has a development time of one year. I would rather see it have a development time of two or three years. That way they could add more to the story and make the single player longer.

About 90% of the gaming world prefers a story. Just because you don't like a story doesn't mean it will be the same for everyone else.
The reason people have bought the series is to enjoy the story unfold, and find out what Desmond's purpose is.
Besides next title will have a female assassin to play, which will be a bit weird, but nobody will care it is female just they want to know how she ties in with the story line and lore.

I thought GTA IV and The Lost and Damned DLC add-on had pretty good stories. The stories for Niko and Johnny are pretty serious considering what they both go through and what can happen. They both lose somebody important to them.
