It probably has one of those codes to reset the quest like in Oblivion, doesn't it?

I have the same problem. I just walked around a bit (through doors) and when i came back to the door it was open.

Have you guys tried using setstage mq203 280 to unlock the door to Esbern?

From what I read the whole part is bugged and can be dealt with the way poster no. 1 suggested or with the code provided here.

I had the same issue and I was getting pretty fed up .. So I started looking on WWW.

Anyways, does anyone have any info as to when the next patch is due to be released? The last i.e. 1.3.10.0 just CTD at certain parts of the map. Seems to be a huge problem for many.

This was the simplest fix I found. Worked for me when the others didn't---

Add the following lines to your Skyrim.ini :

[Archive]
sResourceArchiveList=Skyrim - Misc.bsa, Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Skyrim - Textures.bsa, Skyrim - Interface.bsa, Skyrim - Animations.bsa, Skyrim - Meshes.bsa, Skyrim - Sounds.bsa
sResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Voices.bsa, Skyrim - VoicesExtra.bsa
