I, too, love playing mages. My favorite class in any RPG.
So, a human mage with fire, lots of fire. A fire sword, burning armor, torches, I'll be one huge walking non-electrical lighthouse.
And you know why? To burn those damn eight-legged freaks!
If I didn't make it obvious yet in my previous posts, I absolutely hate those things.
In all seriousness:

Screw that, I'm an adult and it's a damn videogame, and it's one of my favorite series at that. I won't let some damnable fear of spiders keep me away from my GoTY!

thats the first step away from arachnophobia! just go slaughter those spiders. now then on-topic :3 i think im gonna be just any good warrior race, being suited in heavy armor with a huge weapon just going around slaughtering different animals and creatures, gonna be a werewolf so much (wolfs / dogs are my favourite animal, so i can finally join their ranks
