Dead Island Message Board  

Ok, so I guess for some people the 1.3 patch was causing Dead Island to crash on start-up. TheThing2010 posted a response in the game's trainer thread, but if this is a common problem, it may be hard for people to find tucked several pages into that thread. So I'm making a new one with a copy/paste of TheThing2010's answer. All credit goes to him for posting here first (as far as I know).

Note: Patch 1.3.0 was released for me just now. It was a 1.3 GB update for some and 20MB for others.
Some Steam users are reporting that Dead Island now crashes on startup.

Here's one solution: "Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dead island\DI\Data\game.ini
Locate: Locale('En') and change to Locale('en')"

They just patched this thing a week ago, and now another one.

Obviously the 1.2.1 Trainer won't work with this regardless of the mechanizations employed to the game.ini file.

This was all about co-op play leveling I guess, which I don't play anyway, being a single player kinda guy who mods stuff when possible...

So Fine!

I will patiently await the updated trainer and play string with my cat leaving Logan to fend for himself on an island full of rather robust ambulatory rotting corpses.

And I had that boomerang thing working pretty well too!

And ps... my game.ini file already had the lowercase "en" so there!

Had to change my game.ini file to en to make it not crash so thanks for reposting that. Was the 1.3gb update for the bloodbath dlc for people who preordered the game. Anyone with the big update confirm? I only got the 20mb update.

I also had the 20mb patch, seems everyone is having the same problem as I so ill try the En to en change and see how we go, hopefully this wont interfere with anything once CH releases a 1.3 trainer...

Just checked the game loads fine until I click on continue tab at eh main menu, then after it loads it immediately crashes....

I press f1 on the main menu and during game play to see which way might work but no luck, game crashes once the trainer is detected...

Pls CH make a new Trainer for the 1.3 version of the game, its a super fun game and the options you give us on the trainer make the game so much more enjoyable!!!

I found that all my crashing/black screen issues went away when I ran the game through the EXE instead of through Steam.

All I did was uninstall from Steam, re-download, go to work......and BAM! there it was all installed and working pretty.
