Well the only reason EA moved to Origin is simple, Steam/Valve wanted a higher % of a cut for selling their games on Steam. That is like a death sentence to do to a large publisher.
People are reading horror stories that are not showing the whole picture and believing it. If you have ME2 or DA1/2 try using Origin, you can register your cd-key on it. Notice how the bandwith is a lot higher, no constant updates to the platform and of course no unnecessary patches being installed without your knowledge.
At the end of the day Origin is just another digital distribution platform without in your face advertisements.
Based on what you just said Origin sounds like a better online distribution platform for games.
And I guess as long as ew can play Mass Effect in offline mode we should be able to play the game with no problems from Origin.

Actually , it's because of the DLCs. I think the updated agreement with Steam is that any DLC they make must also be available on Steam. EA wants to dictate how they want the DLCs to be distributed. That's why they're not putting ME3 on Steam.
Also, Steam has frequent sales. Origin... I don't know.

Actually, it's not. Any EA title since the decision will not be on Steam unless both parties come to a compromise about the royalties to be paid for use of the Steam network.
So the DLC had nothing to do with it.
ME2 sales soared on Steam when it was cheaper, and thats when Valve/Steam wanted a bigger %, which was the dumbest thing they could have done. But then Valve/Steam have been all about greed.
Lets not talk about the HL2 fiasco when they tried to lie about people downloading a warez release when they had the retail version just to try and grab another $10 per cd-key to be reactivated. Disgusting :P
