Nope, just the trainer, which I absolutely adore.

I got it retail.

That's the only difference I can see between our two versions, other than our system set-ups. Actually, either way I'm not sure what to suggest... the game uses Steamworks, so that shouldn't cause a problem. If it's something on your system, though, it could be one of a hundred different things.

All I can suggest is uninstalling and reinstalling the game, but that's not necessarily going to solve anything. You might be best emailing Steam support on this one. You might have to wait a while for a response, but you'll at least get some more helpful advice.

Won't Steam spit the dummy about me using a trainer?

I'll try starting a new game tonight, without the trainer, and see if it changes anything.

Just don't mention the trainer. The use of a trainer has, as far as I know, never blocked achievements. So we can be fairly certain the trainer isn't the problem here, thus what they don't know won't hurt them. Or you.
