Does this game have more of story line than the Left4Dead series?I bought both of those and as a single player game they were boring to me,too monotonous.Kill Zombies Run to safe house door over and over etc.

There are main quests and alot of side quests. Once you get the car you can drive around the resort. Also, there alot of weapons to get. Overall there is alot of exploring to do.

It has more of a story than the Left for Dead series but it's mostly a lot of running back and forth completing quests - Main quests, side-quests, etc. Lots of running back and forth between safe-zones. The game plays a lot like Far Cry 2. Everything is overly animated in a first person perspective which makes it feel sluggish (realistic?) compared to Left for Dead which is more of an action-shooter game.

When you drive a car it feels a lot like Far Cry 2 driving mechanics - sluggish, hard to turn, slow head movements when behind the wheel, but realistic compared to something like Grand Theft Auto. The same thing with weapons. They feel sluggish - especially guns, I assume to give the game a more realistic feel and approach than what Left for Dead was aiming for.

When you're surrounded by lots of zombies, guns really suck in this game because they're too slow and it takes a lot of shots to kill zombies. You really have to aim for the head to put them down quick but it still takes a lot unless you've got a powerful shotgun. You might be able to blow a head off with one shot if you shoot close enough. Most guns are good for long range but gunshots (and pretty much any other sounds in the game) attract more zombies to your location which can make things even more difficult. The game has some sort of built in stealth aspect. The quieter you are the less likely you are to attract zombies.

Since you can't really kill off the zombies in the game (meaning, you can't perma-kill them off cause they continually spawn into the game world) it's best to just avoid them. I often just run past them or go around them when I can and leave them alone.

Bladed and blunt weapons are best in this game but it gets boring using melee weapons against zombies after a very short while. Pretty soon you're going to want to shoot them and burn them and blow them up to relieve yourself of the boring repetition of bashing and slicing them up with melee weapons. The problem with that is that guns, Molotov ****tails, deodorant bombs (sort of like grenades), aren't available to you right away. You have to do enough quests to advance from basic melee weapons (like boat oars, lead pipes, wrenches, sticks, bats, etc) to weapons like assault rifles, shotguns, pistols. And weapons degrade really fast (unless you use the trainer) so you're supposed to be real frugal with how you use your equipment. This game is nothing like Left for Dead. It's a realistic survival horror game that plays like a console game, that's slapped on some really basic RPG elements. The save system really sucks in this game because it uses checkpoints and just sort of records and saves everything you do. But if you quit the game and come back to it later, you will start off in one of the safe zones you've unlocked through your play-through and not right where you left off. I really hate that because it feels so cheap and console-ish.

The game world however, is very beautiful and very detailed. Seems like they spent the bulk of their time creating this lush tropical paradise but didn't really focus too much on the gameplay and basic features like saving your game. It's a shame they didn't include a way to destroy the game world. Some things can be destroyed like table lamps, but if you throw a Molotov ****tail at a wooden bungalow with a straw roof it does not burn down the bungalow. That kills the immersion and makes the weapons feel cheap.

I'd really wait until the price dropped down if I were you. $50.00 is a lot of money for THIS game. I think the price will drop really quick in a month or two. The hype and fun-factor will be diminishing rather quick with this title because better (even more over-hyped) games will be coming out in the near future - including Skyrim and COD 3. This game is just good for a weekend (maybe two) and you'll be sick of it. If you've got the coin to spend though then it's your money to spend how you wish. Hope you enjoy it.

I might give it a solid 8 after the bugs are worked out. The voice overs are pretty good. Cut scenes look good. Several bugs and even a couple combat issues IMHO that need fixing. Melee weapons degrade too quickly and melee combat overall is sometimes miss more than hit.

Game is fun, the overall concept/design is fun to me. You have a questing and leveling system with skills to customize your character.

This really isn't a problem with the PC version of it. It is more of a progression problem. I am kinda saddened that I can't help make the island safer from the zombie infection. I was hoping the more main quests, side-quests, and zombies I killed would help make sections of the island safer and less zombie infested. I still think it is a pretty good game and I am happy I bought it.
