you get to pick a special to start so I picked the catapult so I can capture ships initially without needing to use blueprints for unlocks for ships. so I have a better ship but no way to move the catapult to the new ship............. I know it can be bought from the other faction at some point but really? I have to buy it "again" to get it on the new ship?

yes, all ship equipment is fixed, it can only be replaced, not removed or transfered

you can buy again that, just give coins (no blueprint), in 2nd harbor.

What key do you use to activate your special weapon? I have tried everything, nothing seems to work?? I have the catapult.

The space bar activates the special weapon. Hold it down for a longer reach or tap is for a short thrust.
