i did this by using "DOSBox-0.74" install the app and then get your Syndicate wars cd, drag and drop contents to hdd in a simple fold with a sort name.
you'll get this Z:\ do this Z:\ mount c C:\"folder name here" Z:\ C:\ C:\ DIR this should bring directory view of the folder with the install file. type install and the game's own UI should pop-up set up the sound and music don't forget to test the mouse works on this bit. then select install path set it to some simple again. check your C drive then quit dos box. restart DOSBox-0.74 repeat the mount process again but with the folder name replaced with whatever you chose to use.
Z:\ mount c C:\SWARS ==drive c already mounted with local directory C:\ Z:\>C:\ C:\DIR PLAY it should work..lets us know if it does for you
<#> CAUTION <#> the install bit i did 12 hours before i typed mount the installed game to run was recent so i'm sure of that. and alcohol has been comsumed so be carefull
