the main character is named Geralt of Rivia some kind of warrior/wizard.

I heard it was based off the books that the Game of Thrones series also was based on.

that's right The Witcher is based on books . Actually there was a movie made time ago but it was a crap . Nothing can beat the books

nice to hear someone still thinks books are better i didn't knew there was a book or would've read them. i liked the movie well enough and if book is better i'll definitely read it.

The Witcher games are based off of the books written by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Witcher
Sadly, only two of his books have been translated into English yet, The Last Wish and Blood of Elves

Game of Thrones is based on A Song of Ice and Fire.

The Witcher is based on the eponymous book series, which as was previously mentioned, only has two installments in the english language so far. I prefer the original Polish versions, but seeing as I don't fluently speak it, meh. Still worth reading, however. The games take place after the series ends.

There was a movie, which was, in turn, a cut down version of the TV series based on the books. They're not good. At all.
