Perhaps problem is associated with playing on an HDTV instead of a Monitor?
I was initially thinking about throwing some random insult at this comment but then I realised there are still some "gamers" out there that don't realise that most modern video cards not only support HDTV but are designed specifically for them.
Considering a monitor that does 1080p costs about 500x what a HDTV (10x the size!) does then why bother with a pitiful monitor?
So no the problem isn't in using a HDTV at all, the problem is with manufacturers doing a **** poor job of writing correct EDIDs into their generic brand TVs.
Sure if I didn't spend so much on games I could afford something like a Sony Bravia or a Samsung LED instead of a DSE POS... By the way I am accepting donations for this just cause
