I'm thinking about buying Civ V, and am curious if I should get the Steam or Retail version with the interest of better trainer capability. I've seen some games where only the Steam version has a trainer, and some games where the Steam version doesn't. So far it looks like both versions have working trainers, so I'm seeing if anyone has any opinions on the matter.

    Cheers!

Depends on what you like more..

Retail disc is handy if your not into downloading large amounts of files. Not so good if you lose the disc though.

Steam is vice versa. You cant technically lose your game, but requires lots of downloading.
Oh and Don't forget some tuts on ASM and defeating DMA

He's right, steam is a lot more downloading of data esp if you got more computers in your house. I personally don't like steam at all, just because of their crappy DRM. Its easier to lose a disc thou :P.

When I bought the Retail copy of Civilization 5 it required you to register it with Steam anyways. So whether you lose the disc or not isn't really problem since you won't need it to play or reinstall. One of Steams redeeming qualities in their RDM.

Just curious bearing in mind i bought Civ v already. Is there a retail version which doesn't require a steam download? Cos that's what I got.

On the retail vs steam argument i would go for retail just about every time but they do some good deals so its better to play both sides of the fence. The auto patch function is its best redeeming quality but you have no control over their servers and some games are so short its hardly worth the download time esp when their servers are chocker. Take homefront for me it honestly took longer to download than to play

Only retail if you can. Steam has the worst online support in the world
    Old-school.
