I was wondering if anyone ever found a work-around for the trainer for this game. I see the bad Aliens: Colonial Marines on sale, and it makes me want to play one that was at least halfway decent. I've beaten the AvP 2010 game a few times, but utterly loved playing it with a functioning trainer.
Or maybe something that works on CoSMOS? I'm a total noob using it, but would certainly love giving it a shot. So far, I haven't found anything for it.
UPDATE: Okay, I think I found a work-around. Seems the crash comes whenever it does a check for Steam Achievements in an area you would normally receive one. Even if you had received one in that area before, it still runs a check for some reason. So, I thought to myself, why not simply bypass that.
I used a program call Steam Achievement Unlocker, or SAM for short. (Warning, using SAM runs a very small risk of VAC ban, but no more so than using a trainer. Use at own risk.) I ran SAM for the game, unlocked all the achievements, then tried using the trainer for the DX9 version of the game.
So far, it's been quite successful. I passed all the normal areas it would crash at, such as the night club and the area immediately after, with zero problems. I yet remain hopeful for the rest of the game. It feels good to stretch my legs in this one again.
Further Update: Nope, did find one little issue. When changing between chapters, it likes to lock in a black screen, forcing you to close the program manually. Luckily, it still saves progress, so all you have to do is relaunch and go right back to it.
