I think after spending 60 bucks on this game I am finally done with the Call of Duty Series. I may be done with the FPS genre all together. As a PC user I can't help but feel completely screwed which each and every release. Have the reason I played this was to play with and against my friends on Dedicated Servers. I was excited when MW2 was announced and then I never even bothered to pick it up after they said there would be no dedicated servers. I picked up Bad Company 2 but then found out you could only rent the servers. The same thing with Medal of Honor, and now finally Black Ops. Gone are the days when people who had their own servers could host games for their friends. So with that I think I am done with the FPS Genre. Not unless something comes out that remembers where FPS came from (Here is a hint: Not Consoles)and is a little better than this shoddy port of a console game.
In short, Keep it the "Counter Strike 1.6" way. !

I think you're misleading those here with the rental of the dedicated servers. It is free and dedicated as long as you don't have control of the servers where you can kick/ban player and make your own rules; that's where the rental fee comes in. Otherwise, you get dedicated servers for free. Read here:

"If players want to run a dedicated Ranked or Unranked server on the PC, they will have to rent one through GameServers," Olin told IGN. "Treyarch will be providing a fleet of 'Day-1 Servers' (through GameServers) which will be up and operational on November 9th.
"Nobody will have to rent a dedicated server through GameServers in order to play the game," says Olin. "But for anybody who wants to run their own server, it will be run from GameServers.com."
Olin added that this partnership adds the advantage of much more effective anti-cheating and hacking moderation."
But if I want to say, have a LAN party or have a small server so that I can play against my friends and that's it what are my options? Rent a server? Not use my own server?
If I want to run a private server mod so that only my friends and I can see or play on the server do I have any option available to me?
I cannot sympathize, seriously. I am not defending Treyarch/Activision, but what you want is also a means to hacking and cheating that becomes real possibilities, something I think is a scourge on the multi-player community. To be clear, I am NOT saying that you would do that, only that that is a very big reason why this is not allowed much anymore.
At least they offer the choice. Now, if these servers overall were rental only, then that would be an issue and you would see serious blowback at Activision in future sales. I am not getting the game anyway, simply because I am bored to tears of shooters, they have just become so stale. Run around, kill each other for perks, add-ons and bragging points, but nothing innovative in how the gameplay goes is being introduced. I actually gave up after what I thought was a great change with the introduction of Modern Warfare, now it is stale as everything has to be like it because it sells.

Private Match is what your looking for.
You wont get any xp or cod points but you'll be able to play with all the gear you have...
Wasn't that obvious?
That's been the way since cod 4...
(granted of course that there was offline leveling, which was cool)
