Does anyone else experience the supertune cheat for ships resetting back to a slower default speed? or sometimes just not working...any workarounds fixes for it ?

I haven't seen supertune stop working or fail to work. Not sure about that one.
However, I do know how to modify the supertune DOWN if you want to. Go to the cheat menu for add/remove wares, equipment and upgrades to the ship. Select "install upgrades" and then select "engine tuning". Enter a negative value, like -50, and it will modify your ship's speed down. You can use this in combination with supertune to get the top speed of a ship wherever you want it. May take some playing to figure out the right negative value to use.
