I had trouble asking Ringo the rules of the Caravan game and couldn't play the game, game kept freezing on me, so when I finally started the game without the Ultimate Trainer 1.1.1.271 I was able to play the card game, I also had a nexus mod called Alternate D3D9 performance fix for ATI link www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34970 I deleted it's d3d9.dll fix before restarting the game, so not sure if it was the d3d9.dll fix or the trainer causing the game freeze!.. but when both weren't activated I was able to play the caravan game and talk to Ringo

There was a table in one house in that same town that kept crashing when the trainer was on, when you'd try and loot the kitchen table, it is the town the game starts in, there's never ever anyone in the house!..

one the table was a chess board and two beers and four bottle caps, a oval kitchen table

    Update

I looted that house with the one kitchen table with the chess board and two beer bottles and caps and had no game freeze, trainer wasn't launched

Don't use the d3d9.dll fix (or any other supposed 'quickfix' that get's released). Apparently the slowdowns and some other performance issues in this game are caused by a bug with swiftshader (a technology used in the game). As a better alternative use the console command temo (toggle facial emotions). You'll need to use this each time you restart the game, but it's only 4 letters at the end of the day. It doesn't cause any issue with achievements or other game elements and it's completely safe. Won't cause any save issues or anything else.

Just throwing this out there for peoples' benefit. The only people who can ultimately fix these issues are Bethesda/Obsidian. So far they've done a quick 1-2 with regards to patches. No doubt more are on the way (if Fo3 was anything to go by), hopefully with one fixing the slowdown issues.
