when you install the game and you are a member of steam and have steam on and steam games it automaticaly puts the game in
steam with my other games I bought from steam, so I have 2 questions, 1] how can I load and play the game on my pc and skip it being under steam or part of my steam games and account?
2]when you have steam and the game under steam does it [steam]
automaticaly apply the steam patches to the game or do you have
a choice and download them yourself by finding them and applying them?
Automatic.

No, both. You can right click on the game and select DO NOT KEEP THIS GAME UP TO DATE in the Updates tab of Properties. Steam doesn't FORCE you to update everything on your list, they just have automatic updates on by default, which if you actually look, you can turn off.

Doesn't work for me...I've tried that...

Yea I disabled updates and cloud both before the update and later veriied both were still off and the game still forced me to update during loadup... By force I mean it wouldn't let me play without update when I click on desktop shortcut.
All I didnt try was circumventing the fallout launcher by rooting around the fallout vegas steam directories. I may have been able to find the main game exe and bypass the fallout prelauncher exe... When next update comes I will be doing this to see if that works too. It will buy me an extra day until trainer comes out.
