Try this and see if it works: go into your control panel and open the device manager. Click on the + next to "Human Interface Devices". Right-click on "Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver" and hit "Uninstall". The tilde key should work now. I had the same problem and remedied it this way. Just remember that you'll have to do this every time you reboot your computer.

It wouldn't work for me until I turned off my 360 controller in the control options.

My tilde doesn't work either, and I went to Control Panel as descrbied and there is no "...eHome Infrared..." device present.

    I am running Vista 32.

Any other ideas? I'd love to be able to use the console.

    Thanks

not really sure what to tell you. Im running win 7 and im guessing the dude who answered my post was running the same. Basically you have to find the device manager, where you should be able to find the Human Interface Device. The menu for those are minimized so you need to press that to show a list of devices under it. Once there the Infrared Transceiver should be right there. Just uninstall it and everything will be fine.
    Hope it helps.

i think after finding control panel, there is one for system. then on that window or one of its tabs is device manager, and that will show you the list of hardware that you have. you might have to open a few things up to find the human interface device... it has been awhile since i upgraded to win 7

Yeah, I can get to device manager and human interfaces, but there is no device listed there that matches the item to which one of the earlier posters referred. Whether it makes a difference or not, I am running a laptop. Oh well, I guess I still have the trainer

I just like the idea of making these changes in-game like the console would allow. When I used to have an XP machine the console always worked via the ~.

not sure if it will help anyone else but this worked for me.

    Start regedit

    Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\i8042prt\Parameters

There should be an entry named OverrideKeyboardSubtype with a type of REG_DWORD and a value of 2.
Set the value to 0 and reboot.
