I have been reading the save games are messing up for many people and being deleted...I am about to buy the game, will i run into this problem? and how can i avoid it? and what causes it.....Thank you my fellow Aliens from planet booty shake

If it's a retail copy then normally you wouldn't have problems.

Yet, even if it's a retail version usually old saves will be incompatible after you patch. This is pretty much the norm.

Actually, it's not normal for your saves to not be forward compatible (meaning 1.0 save works on 1.1 game, for example). When it doesn't work, it's a result of bad programming, one way or the other. Either they dropped the ball on save format and had to render the old format incompatible to patch the game, or they left such a horrendous bug in the game at launch that it not only requires you to patch the game, but also to start a new game in order to get away from it.

It's never normal to have to start over again with every patch to a game. That's just crazy.
