Wow...that's some BS.
The job showed a technician for Antenna Towers (those really huge towers that are used to broadcast Radio stations and TV stations). It was a total heights of around 1700 feet and it showed the technician clmibing it all the way to the very top. There's an elevator for 1600 feet of the way then the rest is a ladder for a short while. Then the technician had to free climb it once he reached the top of the tower and reached the antenna part. It showed him in a pretty dangerous climb to the top without any ladders (just the structure built to make the climb as easy as possible, but there's no "path" at all). This paticular job was to fix the light beacon at the very top. Oh and they have to drag a 30 pound tool box as they have to bring everything for the job for whatever it is they're going to fix (if you forget something, climbing back down will take a long time).
Oh and free climbing if you're not familiar with the term refers to NOT using any form of safety harnesses. You fall, it's probably going to be fatal (they have one special cable to attach to some part of the structure for taking minor breaks and they completely unhook it for tricky parts of the climb). It's not a job for the faint of heart and definitely not for people with a fear of heights.

He didn't mention it. He does get a base pay based on whatever company he works for and then there's an additional pay on top of that for working in hazerdous conditions. I would assume it's a pretty hefty amount.

Yeah, he's taking a huge risk.

Yea its crazy, but it is a lot of pay. We have guys that do that where I work and they get all sorts of extras. But then theres also a photo and a plaque in the foyer for a guy who died from a fall while on a repair job. Have to be supremely confident and skilled and also good at risk management to minimize your chance of mistakes.
