Thanks very much Cal! It is definitely an odd one...
This game (or Unreal Engine 4) really doesn't like this trainer existing. I do the F1 at the main menu and get the "Activated". I then start a dirt simple 2 player skirmish against the AI. Get the six default grunts collecting stuff, then I just sit there and do nothing for 1-2 minutes and CRASH to desktop. Works like clockwork every time. If I DON'T run the trainer at all, it works fine. To be clear... I'm not really using the trainer at all... my only interaction is pressing F1 at the main menu to activate it. So apparently just having the trainer activated is making the game throw up. Some security thing that Epic is doing with the Unreal Engine? I have no idea.
Using Bannermen 1.0.1 on Steam (purchased). I've been using Cheat Happens trainers for years, and this is the first time this bit of strangeness has ever happened. I'll continue experimenting and see if there is any addition information I can nail down.
ok, so I started skirmish with AI, 1v1, activated trainer, left for 32 minutes to go eat supper with game running and not paused, came back and no crash...
then I toggle on every option including the speed option, made a huge army, and went across the map and wiped out the enemy, which took another 3-4 minutes..
not sure how to replicate your problem..

Cal

I was a programmer with HP for 22 years, so I'm quite familiar with the phenomenon where things work perfectly when the person who knows what they are doing tries it!
No biggie though, I've been using Cosmos in the campaign on the gold, wood and max units and I'm getting through it just fine. Thanks again for all your hard work!
If I ever figure out what is causing my problem in this game, I'll let you know.
