In this guide I`ll talk about the TBS part of the game. Like all games, with some hints and tricks you can finish a game much easier! I hope you`ll like my new guide and that it will help you in the quest to become Shogun! I have made a quick link to any of these Contents. If you want to go to FAQ, search (from edit click search) for ->7 ENJOY! --------------------------------------------------------------------- ->2.A few things about SHOGUN --------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a game from the Total War series (Medieval Total war, Rome Total war...). It is a very realistic game from all angles: time, troops, buildings... I hope you`ll see the good part of Shogun. The game is old, but it has very good graphics and it doesn`t require much. In other words, a very good game! --------------------------------------------------------------------- ->3.Full Campaign --------------------------------------------------------------------- In the full campaing, you must become Shogun. There are 7 clans. You will be the Daimyo of one of them. The Daimyo is the leader of one clan. You must conquer the other clans and the rebels and unite all of Japan into one Shogunate. It won`t be easy, but it must be done. By you. I suggest you take a look into the Tutorial, but that is harder than the game itself. The game might seem hard, but don`t be fooled, you will see that everything is easy, logic and realistic! Let`s make you Shogun! --------------------------------------------------------------------- ->4.Interface --------------------------------------------------------------------- The TBS interface is simple. On your left side you will se 4 butons: Information Throne Room Produce Units Make Buildings The buildings that are made in a province can be observed from the middle of the screen. On your right side you will notice the date and year. When you press the END TURN button, located in the right, a season will pass. There are 4 seasons. You can receive valuable information, so read any message you receive. In the Informatin screen you can see who is allied with who, your hiers and other important things. You should check from time to time. In the Throne room you have your personal Sun Tzu and the map of Japan. In the Throne room you receive guests (traders, alliance offers...) From the Units button you can produce your Units for an army. When you select the type of unit you want to make, you will train 60 men. Some units take more time to train and cost more, so make your choise a wise one. From the Building button you can construct building for a province. All that big and bad Interface is starting to look firendly now, doesn`t it? I told you it isn`t hard. It`s made for simplicity. --------------------------------------------------------------------- ->5.Walkthrough --------------------------------------------------------------------- In this section I will guide you to your way to become Shogun. I will advise and teach you the way. Listen to my advise and all shall be good. I will point the simpliest way to achieve your goal. Like I said: Let`s make you Shogun! ===================== ->5.1.Choosing a Clan ===================== I suggest the Shimazu clan. You will quicly make allies with this clan. But you can choose what clan you want. The clans are: Shimazu Mori Oda Imagawa Takeda Hojo Uesugi Every clan has some avantages and disavantages. I`m going to point to the avantages and disavantages that the game doesn`t show: Shimazu: -a lot of border-provinces that need to be protected +it has a good economy and it is the most known clan Mori:-the Daimyo of the clan dies quicly, so the game could finish early for you +the Mori clan is known as a neutral clan Oda:-a lot of enemy clans near +good economy Imagawa:-scattered clan +rich provincies Takeda:-scattered clan +known as a war clan Hojo:-a lot of enemy clans nearby +rich provinces Uesugi:-Daimyo dies quicly +known as a neutral clan I hope that list made your choice more easily. I hope you chose Shimazu! ============= ->5.2.Economy ============= The money in Shogun is Koku. In every year, in the winter, your peasents will harvest all the farms and you will be notified of the income. To get a strong economy you need to build farms in every province. After they are build, make better farms (the exceptional farm, the legendary farm...) to make even more Koku! If you have a province with mining capability, build a mine also! A port is a good way to make 200 Koku yearly, but beware that you can aslo transport troops to another province with a dock! And so the AI can. So keep some soldiers in that province! If you have a couple of provinces with legendary farms on it, you will have a bumper harvest every year. So, upgrade your farms and make mines! ============================== ->5.3.Your important buildings ============================== Let`s talk about the buildings: Improved Farmland-500 Koku Border Watch Towers-400 Koku Castle-500 Koku Beware that a province has a limited number of buildings that can be build. A building upgrade doesn`t use another slot. Always build all the Dojos, the Tranquil garden, the Ninja house and Blacksmith. Later in the game, you can build churches. DO NOT BUILD THEM! They are unnecesary and use a precious slot. You will be able to construct Dutch trading posts. With them you will be able to train Muscheteers. Always try and upgrade your castle. If you don`t have a bigger castle, there won`t be any upgrades. I suggest you use to provinces as Fortresses. I mean build in them Castles and Dojos and all of those. So you can make troops two times faster. And maybe you will lose your Capital. Another province with training troops capability comes in handy... Always plan which building you will make! ============== ->5.4.The Army ============== Quality is always better than quatity! It`s better, cheaper and easier to build better troops! The type of units you use can vary. In a mounty province use archers. Good against archers are cavalery, and against them unmounted melee troops. Every player has it`s own favorite troops. I use in my army "Budhist fanathics", also known as Warrior Monks. Don`t send your Daimyo into battle. If he stays home, you`ll get more heirs and he`ll be more protected. The more troops you have the better! In time you`ll get used to most of your troops. Primary types of units: Yari Ashiragu Yari Cavalery Samurai Archers Ninja Warrior Monks No-Dachi Samurai ================ ->5.5.Conquering ================ To get more provinces, you got to conquer more. Try to attack the Rebels. They are the weakest target there is! Don`t ever leave a newly conquered province alone! The people might revolt and you would loose your new province. After you conquer a province, upgrade the farms there. The AI never does that. On your borders make Border Watch towers and then upgrade them. A good ideea is to keep Shinobis on your border provinces. Never leave a border province unprotected! NEVER! Try to spy on the enemy to see how good is he doing, how many troops he has, the morale... If you know these, you could win more. You could also try to assassinate the enemy general. A good ideea, but it doesn`t often work. ===================== ->5.6.A silent finish ===================== The easiest way possible to finish the game is silent. If you build the Famous Tea House and the Infamous Ninja House you`ll be able to make the Geisha House. That produces legenday geisha and better ninjas. The Geisha is the best assassin there is! She doesn`t die. If a ninja doesn`t succes, he is killed. If the Geisha tries to kill she WILL KILL. The trick is that she can`t always try an assassination. I`m reffering now to killing Daimyos. The enemy can try to kill the Geisha with a Ninja, but she always manages to say alive. If the Daimyo has a heir, than the clan will survive. Just kill the heir too and then clan is eliminated. It ussualy becomes Rebel. Do that to all of the clans. Some provinces might become yours. Even if there is an enemy out there, it`s the best that it is a Rebel group. Rebels don`t attack a defended province. If ONE unit is defending your province, than Rebels won`t attack. You just keep your borders safe, make 3-4 big armies and then charge. it will be simple. The easiest way to finish the game. "Divide and conquer" --------------------------------------------------------------------- ->6.FAQ --------------------------------------------------------------------- I always try to answer all the questions in my guide. If you do have questions email me! Q: Can you simulate battles? A: Yes. When an opponent attacks your troops you will be asked whether to fight manually or automatic Q: Is there an expansion? A: Yes, the "mongol invansion: Q: Can I fight ancient battles? A: Not ancient, but important ones. Q: How do I make legendary Geishas? A: Some of you didn`t read that a Geisha needs TWO rounds to be trained, not one like the others. Q: My economy is very poor! What do I do? A: Improve to the max all your farms and make mines where you can! --------------------------------------------------------------------- ->7.Ending --------------------------------------------------------------------- The Japanese culture is a very interesting and misterious one. The Japanese were always carefull with outsiders.
