In the two new Pokemon games, POKEMON RUBY AND SAPPHIRE for the Game Boy 
Advance, a new element is added to the already complex world of Pokemon: 
Special Abilities. By definition, these are not techniques, so they do not use
up PP, but special powers that each Pokemon is born with. And they can affect
the game either inside or outside of the field. In this guide, I will explain 
each ability in depth (as in, what the abilities do). 

A Pokemon can only have one ability at a time, but some Pokemon have two 
abilities, and which one the Pokemon gets is random when the Pokemon is caught. 
For example, the Pokemon CACNEA has the ability [SAND VEIL], and that ability
alone. But TRAPINCH, on the other hand, has two different options: [HYPER
CUTTER] or [ARENA TRAP]. So, when a Pokemon with two different abilites is 
caught, it's up to fate to decide which one it gets. And that's the way the
cookie crumbles!

Here is the list of each ability (in alphabetical order), who can use it, and
what the ability does. Remember, if you wish to find a certain Pokemon or 
Ability, use CTRL+F to bring up the FIND engine. 

*These Pokemon cannot be caught in the game, but can only be obtained through 
a special event (or, in the case of Jirachi, through the bonus disk in POKEMON
COLLASEUM)

**These Pokemon are the ones that are not included in POKEMON RUBY AND 
SAPPHIRE and therefore must be recieved from POKEMON COLLUSEUM. Their numbers
are the numbers used in Red/Blue/Yellow/Gold/Silver/Crystal. 


AIR LOCK
200 Rayquaza

When this Pokemon enters battle, all weather conditions disappear. 


ARENA TRAP
116 Trapinch

As long as this Pokemon is in battle, your opponent's Pokemon cannot retreat
from battle. This ability does not affect FLYING-type Pokemon or Pokemon with
the [LEVITATE] ability. 


BATTLE ARMOR
135 Anorith, 136 Armaldo

The opposing Pokemon cannot do CRITICAL HIT damage to this Pokemon. 


BLAZE
004 Torchic, 005 Combusken, 006 Blaziken, 004 Charmander**, 005 Charmeleon**,
006 Charizard**

When this Pokemon's HP drops below a third of its full health, the power of
this Pokemon's FIRE-type moves multiply by 1.5. 


CHLOROPHYLL
022 Seedot, 023 Nuzleaf, 024 Shiftry, 088 Oddish, 089 Gloom, 090 Vileplume,
091 Bellossom, 150 Tropius

This Pokemon's SPEED doubles when the weather condition during battle is 
"Sunny". 


CLEAR BODY

This Pokemon cannot be affected by moves that lower statistics. 


CLOUD NINE

As long as this Pokemon is in battle, all weather conditions disappear. 


COLOR CHANGE
145 Kecleon

When this Pokemon is hit by a technique, this Pokemon's type changes to the
type of the technique that hit it. 


COMPOUNDEYES
042 Nincada, 012 Butterfree**, 048 Venonat**

When this Pokemon enters battle, its ACCURACY is raised by 30%.


CUTE CHARM
061 Skitty, 062 Delcatty, 137 Igglybuff, 138 Jigglypuff, 139 Wigglytuff, 035

When this Pokemon uses a Physical Attack, or is hit by a Physical Attack, there
is a 30% chance that the opposing Pokemon will become inflicted with the
ATTRACT ailment.  


DAMP

Neither Pokemon can use "Explosion" or "Selfdestruct". 


DRIZZLE
198 Kyogre

When this Pokemon enters battle, the weather condition becomes "Rain". 


DROUGHT
199 Groudon

When this Pokemon enters battle, the weather condition becomes "Sunny". 


EARLY BIRD
022 Seedot, 023 Nuzleaf, 024 Shiftry, 092 Doduo, 093 Dodrio, 162 Natu, 
163 Xatu, 164 Girafarig

This Pokemon recovers from the SLEEP condition earlier. 


EFFECT SPORE
034 Shroomish, 035 Breloom, 046 Paras**, 047 Parasect**

When this Pokemon uses a Physical Attack, or is hit by a Physical Attack, 
there is a 30% chance that the opposing Pokemon will suffer either PARALYSIS, 
POISON, or SLEEP.


FLAME BODY
103 Slugma, 104 Magcargo

When this Pokemon uses a Physical Attack, or is hit by a Physical Attack, 
there is a 30% chance that the opposing Pokemon will be inflicted with the
BURN ailment. 


FLASH FIRE
153 Vulpix, 154 Ninetales

This Pokemon's ATTACK increases by 1 point when this Pokemon is hit by a FIRE-
type technique.


FORECAST
142 Castform

This Pokemon's type and shape changes depending on the weather condition.

GUTS

This Pokemon's ATTACK multiplies by 1.5 when this Pokemon is inflicted with a
status ailment. 


HUGE POWER
054 Azurill, 055 Marill, 056 Azumarill

When this Pokemon enters battle, its ATTACK is increased by 1 point. However,
if another effect negates this effect, the ATTACK of this Pokemon is halved.


HUSTLE
180 Corsola

Whenever this Pokemon uses a technique, the power of the technique is 
multiplied by 1.5, but the technique's accuracy is only 80%. 


HYPER CUTTER
069 Mawile, 116 Trapinch, 129 Corphish, 130 Crawdaunt, 167 Pinsir

This Pokemon's ATTACK cannot be lowered.  


ILLUMINATE
086 Volbeat, 143 Staryu, 144 Starmie, 181 Chinchou, 182 Lanturn

As long as this Pokemon is on your team, the chance of you encountering Wild
Pokemon is increased. 


IMMUNITY
123 Zangoose

This Pokemon cannot be inflicted with the POISON ailment. 


INNER FOCUS
039 Abra, 040 Kadabra, 041 Alazakam, 063 Zubat, 064 Golbat, 065 Crobat,

This Pokemon cannot flinch. 


INSOMNIA

This Pokemon cannot be inflicted with the SLEEP ailment. 


INTIMIDATE

When this Pokemon enters battle, it decreases the ATK of its opposer by 1 
point. 


KEEN EYE

This Pokemon's ACCURACY cannot be lowered.


LEVITATE

This Pokemon is not affected by GROUND-type moves. 


LIGHTNINGROD

When this Pokemon is participating in a 2-on-2 battle, all LIGHTNING-Type
attacks are drawn to this Pokemon. 


LIQUID OOZE
066 Tentacool, 067 Tentacruel, 095 Gulpin, 096 Swalot

This Pokemon inflicts damage to the opposing Pokemon whenever the opposing 
Pokemon hits this Pokemon with a move that absorbs HP. 


MAGMA ARMOR
103 Slugma, 104 Magcargo

This Pokemon cannot be inflicted with the FROZEN ailment. 


MAGNET PULL
060 Nosepass, 082 Magnemite, 083 Magneton

As long as this Pokemon is in battle, no STEEL-type Pokemon can retreat from
battle.


MINUS
081 Minun

When this Pokemon is in a Tag Team battle, and this Pokemon's partner has the
ability [PLUS], this Pokemon's SPECIAL ATTACK is multiplied by 1.5. 


NATURAL CURE
094 Roselia, 121 Swablu, 122 Altaria, 143 Staryu, 144 Starmie, 180 Corsola

When this Pokemon is retreated back to the bench, all statistic ailments are
automatically healed.  


OBLIVIOUS
087 Illumise, 099 Wailmer, 100 Wailord, 101 Numel, 102 Camerupt, 127 Barboach,
128 Whiscash

This Pokemon cannot be inflicted with the ATTRACT ailment. 


OVERGROW
001 Treecko, 002 Grovyle, 003 Sceptile, 001 Bulbasaur**, 002 Ivysaur**,

When this Pokemon's HP drops below a third of its full health, the power of
this Pokemon's GRASS-type moves multiply by 1.5.


OWN TEMPO

This Pokemon cannot be inflicted with the CONFUSION ailment. 


PICKUP

When this Pokemon uses a Physical Attack, or is hit by a Physical Attack, 
there is a 30% chance the opposing Pokemon will be inflicted with the POISON
ailment. 


PRESSURE
152 Absol, 202 Deoxys*

When the opposing Pokemon hits this Pokemon with a technique, the technique
the opposing Pokemon used drains 2 PP instead of 1. 


PURE POWER
076 Meditite, 077 Medicham

When this Pokemon enters battle, its ATTACK is increased by 1 point. 


RAIN DISH
019 Lotad, 020 Lombre, 021 Ludicolo

This Pokemon regains 1/16 of its HEALTH during the end of each turn when the 
weather condition during battle is "Rain". 


ROCK HEAD
057 Geodude, 058 Graveler, 059 Golem, 070 Aron, 071 Lairon, 072 Aggron,
169 Rhyhorn, 170 Rhydon, 179 Relicanth, 187 Bagon, 188 Shelgon

This Pokemon is not damaged by techniques that give off a recoil (EX: Double-
Edge, Body Slam, Etc.)


ROUGH SKIN
097 Carvanha, 098 Sharpedo

When this Pokemon uses a Physical Attack, or is hit by a Physical Attack, this
Pokemon damages the opponent with this ability. 


RUN AWAY
010 Poochyena, 092 Doduo, 093 Dodrio, 019 Rattata**, 020 Raticate**

This Pokemon has a 100% chance of running away from any battle (except Trainer
Battles). 


SAND VEIL
112 Sandshrew, 113 Sandslash, 119 Cacnea, 120 Cacturne

This Pokemon's EVASION is increased when the weather condition during battle 
is "Sandstorm". 


SERENE GRACE
201 Jirachi*

The chance of this Pokemon's techniques giving off additional effects 
increases. 


SHADOW TAG
160 Wynaut, 161 Wobbuffet

As long as this Pokemon is in battle, the opposing Pokemon cannot retreat back
to the bench. 


SHED SKIN
015 Silcoon, 017 Cascoon, 124 Seviper, 011 Metapod**, 014 Kakuna**, 023

During the end of each turn, this Pokemon has a 33.3% chance of 
recovering from a status ailment.


SHELL ARMOR

The opposing Pokemon cannot do CRITICAL HIT damage to this Pokemon. 


SHIELD DUST
