In Ninja Gaiden you will play the role of Ryu Hayabusa in a quest of revenge on the evil man who slaughtered your village and stole the deadly Dark Dragon Blade. You will traverse through 16 large, detailed, action-packed levels before your adventure is over. Now, perhaps you should know about the difficulty of this game before anything else. Ninja Gaiden is no walk in the park. You're likely to be stumped multiple times throughout the game. If you have some determination and have played action games in the past, you shouldn't have all that much trouble completing Ninja Gaiden. All it takes is patience, and some knowledge on certain combat techniques. That's where I come in. Hopefully you'll find everything you need in this FAQ to complete this fantastic game with no troubles. Anywho, I say it's time to get to the rest of the FAQ. Before you continue I'll just warn you of the spoilers that are sure to be found if you even begin to read this document past this introduction. Now... enough talk! The Story =- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- =============================================================================== -- The evil Dark Dragon Blade... ----- A legendary sword, said to have been carved out of the bones of a Black Dragon, it brought plague and death to the world during the age of ancient myth. It has been sealed by those of the Dragon Lineage since the dawn of history because of its incredible capacity for evil, made possible by the souls of the vanquished Black Dragons that dwell within it. It is said that if the Blade's seal were to be broken, it would gather the hatred and evil of mankind and confer it upon the one who wields it, transforming him into the Devil incarnate; however not even those of the Dragon Lineage who protect it know the true extent of its power. -- The Dragon Sword... ----- Another weapon protected by the Dragon Lineage since ancient times. This sword, which is said to have been used by Ancient warriors to slay the Black Dragons, is now handed down from generation to generation in the Hayabusa Ninja Clan, the modern descendants of the Dragon Lineage. The Characters =- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ----- The Dragon Lineage -------------------- =============================================================================== Ryu Hayabusa ------------ The main character of the game. He is a descendent of the Dragon Lineage and a young member of the Hayabusa Ninja Clan. Ryu's father, who is the head of the Hayabusa Ninja Clan, has left the village for special training in the mountains and has entrusted Ryu with the Dragon Sword, an all powerful sword that has been passed down through generations of clan leaders. You will play as Ryu on an action filled quest to get revenge on the Lord of the Greater Fiends, Doku, who has destroyed your village and escaped with the Dark Dragon Blade. Murai ----- A very skilled master ninja who possesses unsurpassed skill in all of the Ninja Arts. At one point, he was a member of the Hayabusa Ninja Clan, past events occured that caused him to leave and form his own rogue Ninja organization, the Shadow Clan. Murai has a deep connection with Ryu and will be testing your skills early in the game. Ayane ----- This purple-haired kunoichi, or female Ninja in the Hajin-Mon sect of the Mugen Tenshin Ninja Clan. She was born into the ruling family of this clan, but certain circumstances forced her to be raised in secrecy. She is also highly trained in all of the Ninja arts, even at the young age of 14 years old. She will help you on your entire quest by sending you notes attached to small daggers with a purple Lily on the end. These notes contain tips and info on the current situation you are in. Kureha ------ A protector of the Hayabusa Village Shrine. She has known Ryu ever since she was a child, but you don't see very much of her in the game. Muramasa -------- A very wise, and very old man who is known for his blacksmithing skills. You will get all of your items and supplies from him, as well as new weapons, and upgrades on your weapons. He has created many bronze statues of himself, which are scattered throughout this world. If you engage with one, you will be able to purchase items and supplies, just like you were in his shop. =============================================================================== ----- The Fiends -------------------- =============================================================================== Alma - Greater Fiend ---- A very powerful fiend with whom you will eventually fight to the death. At one point she was just a normal woman, sister to Rachel of the Vigoor Empire. That was until Lord Doku lured her in and turned her into a Greater Fiend. Rachel has vowed to kill her sister and release her from this curse. Doku - Lord of the Greater Fiends ---- A Greater Fiend himself, Doku is a heavily armored dark knight. He is the one who lured Alma into the fold and turned her into a Fiend. It seems that he is the one behind the attack on your village and took the Dark Dragon Blade. =============================================================================== ----- The Vigoor Empire -------------------- =============================================================================== Rachel ------ Ah yes, Rachel... A Vigoorian Fiend Hunter who is searching for her sister, Alma, who was turned into a Fiend by Lord Doku. She has been given abnormal strength by genes she possesses, but unfortunately, she is susceptible to turning into a Fiend, just like her sister. Equipped with her War Hammer, she is a very deadly Fiend killer. The Dark Disciple ----------------- A masked, mysterious figure who helps disguise his true identity with a black hood and the machine-enhanced vocalization that hides his natural voice. You will see him appear many times throughout your gameplay. He always seems to be following movements of Ryu and of the Dark Dragon Blade. Gamov ----- Gamov is often found spying on Ryu and watching over important events. He is a Special Agent of the Vigoor Empire Internal Affairs Bureau. Yes, I suppose. But there are always those people out there who haven't a clue what they're doing, right? Most of the things covered in this section apply to many games, so read if you wish. Beginning A Game ---------------- To begin a game, you first need to be at the main menu. The main menu comes up shortly after you insert your Ninja Gaiden disk. Use the Left Thumbstick to scroll through the options that are directly below this Ninja Gaiden logo and press X to confirm your selection. New Game -------- From the menu talked about above, you need to simply select "New Game" with the Left Thumbstick and press X. You will then have to choose a difficulty. This is the difficulty you will have to play throughout the whole game. There is no changing it. The difficulties are Normal, Hard, and Very Hard. You only get the option of playing Very Hard after you have gone through the game on Hard. If it is your first time through the game I would highly suggest starting on Normal. Load Game --------- Highlight "Load Game" from the main menu and press X to confirm. You will then get to choose one save file to load. You will continue from where the file was last saved at. Master Ninja Tournament ----------------------- Select this to play Ninja Gaiden online using Xbox Live. I'm not so sure about this option because I have never tried it. If you have experimented with this, e-mail me so I can add something a little more informative here. Options ------- Select "Options" from the Main Menu to display the Options screen of course! From here you can fool around with various game settings such as the music volume, controller settings, and video settings. Saving your Game ---------------- To save your game you first have to find a Save Point somewhere in the game world. The Save Points look like Dragon heads floating above a pedestal which is floating above the ground. You'll know when you first see one. Walk up to the Save Point and press X. Then, select a Save Slot to save in and press X. A maximum of 10 seperate save games can be created. Game Over --------- A quite simple term used in many video games today. It means exactly what it says. Game Over. The game is over. You're dead, you lose! By choosing to continue you will be taken back to the last Save Point you saved at. You are bound to die many times in this game. There is nothing you can do about it. It's just a tough game. Resetting the Game ------------------ I know some people have asked if there is a way to "soft reset". You may not know how to reset the game easily without reaching down and turning off the Xbox and turning it back on. Anywho... I'm sure you can tell what I'm trying to show you. Read the key below this paragraph along with a short description of what each display shows. @@@@@@ - Possibly the most important thing on the screen. This bar represents the health you have remaining. This bar can increase if you collect items like, Life of the Thousand Gods and by getting 9 Life of the Gods. %%%%%% - This indicator shows which Ninpo you currently have equipped, whether it be Inferno, Ice Storm, or Inazuma. &&&&&& - This is the Ki Guage. You can have up to five Ki Slots and each time you cast a Ninpo Magic, it depletes one Ki slot. ^^^^^^ - Displays the current items being used. For example, the number of arrows remaining. ****** - We call this the Interact Display. Whenever you have the option of interacting with something, the word "Interact" will appear here and you can press X to interact. $$$$$$ - This is the Hit Count. It will show how many times Ryu has hit enemies in succession. The larger the combo, the more essence you receive from enemies! !!!!!! - Boss Health Guage is what we call this indicator. Whenever you fight a Boss or Sub-Boss, this bar will pop up to let you know how much health the Boss has left. ###### - And lastly, the Breath Guage. This guage will only appear when you are underwater. It shows how much breath Ryu has left. Once it is fully depleted, he will begin to lose health very rapidly, so don't let that happen! =============================================================================== ----- It's All About the Essence -------------------- =============================================================================== Essence consists of energy-laden souls left over after enemies are killed. If you get close enough to this Essence, you will absorb them. There are three types of Essence and there are different sizes as well. The sizes vary depending on what the enemy and how long the combo was that killed the enemy. The larger the combo, the more Essence that is extracted from your enemies. The three types of Essence are... Yellow Essence -------------- This type of Essence is really a secretly-used currency. Yellow Essence is what you will be using to buy all of your supplies and to upgrade your weapons. Check out the "Secrets" section for special areas where you can earn a lot of this Yellow Essence and become RICH! Blue Essence ------------ Ooo, this type of Essence is also good. By absorbing the Blue Essence Ryu will recover some health. Unfortunately, the Blue Essence isn't as common and doesn't appear as often as the Yellow. Red Essence ----------- This type of Essence is the most rare. By collecting Red Essence you will have some of your Ki power replenished. Other Uses for Essence ---------------------- Now, there's more to Essence than just collecting it. If you hold down the Y Button to charge up the weapon you are using while there is Essence around, you will absorb the Essence into your weapon and an explosion of energy will occur. Then, with all of this energy packed into your weapon, if you let go of Y, you can unleash it onto your enemies for a devastating attack!!! =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -= V. WALKTHROUGH =- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ----- Chapter One "The Way of the Ninja" -------------------- =============================================================================== -- In the mountains of Autumn, there is one who walks the path of a Ninja... -- Valley of Shadows ----------------- Items: Elixir of Spiritual Life x2 Equip: None You start off on a beautiful little stream with a waterfall ahead of you. Now is a perfect chance to get aquainted with the controls. Try some of the different moves you have and check out your map and menu. You are equipped with the Dragon Sword, Shuriken, a map of The Ninja Fortress, and your purple suit. Take a good look at the map. Use the left and right thumbsticks to zoom in and out on the map. You will see your current position flashing red and white. It seems you are in the Valley of Shadows. On the map you will see the location of the Underground Storehouse, the Fortress Complex, and a path leading to the Hayabusa Village Altar. Once you have taken a look at everything available to you and are familiar with some of the controls, we can get started. You have two options. As you walk forward, there is a path leading up on the left, and a path to the right of the cliffs if you keep going straight. If you go straight, it will lead you to the Hayabusa Village Altar, which is blocked off by a locked door, so you better take the left path that leads up the mountain. Use the A Button to jump your way up a couple of ledges until a dagger flies from the sky and sticks into the rock ahead of you. A purple Lily spins at the end of this dagger. Jump across the gap and walk up to the dagger. It seems there is a note attached to it. Press X to Interact and read the note. It reads: "A Ninja must be able to find his way even when his path is blocked. When facing an obstacle, jump towards it and run vertically up its side until you can grab its upper edge. Move to the left or right and climb up or drop down." That is exactly what you will do. Jump toward the wall and push the left thumbstick up until you grab onto the ledge. Move right along the ledge until you have an area to climb up onto. Press A to jump up onto the ledge. When you swing up onto the ledge, another note will fly into the rock nearby. Press X to Read it. "You must learn to be aware of your surroundings. The key to this ability lies with the Right Thumbstick and the Right Trigger. Acute powers of observation are one of the basic traits of a Ninja. Use them now and you should realize that you are able to climb over the rock wall that now stands in front of you." Now, before you climb the rock wall that is on your left. Turn to the right to find a chest. Open it up with X to find an Elixir of Spiritual Life. These Elixirs heal some of your health. Now, it is time to climb the wall that is opposite the chest. Use the same technique you used to climb the previous wall and pull yourself onto the ledge. Ahead of you is a tree that has fallen over with vines running all over it. Run up the tree and to the left for your next obstacle. Before you walk a couple of feet, two Brown Ninjas will jump from above and land down beside you. The first thing you should do is hold down the left trigger to block. By holding down the left trigger, you will block all of this enemy's attacks, giving you time to decide when to make your move and kill your foe. Since they are the first enemies you will fight in the game they only have combos that reach two. Most of their hits are only single hits. Just after the Ninjas finish their attacks, let go of the Left Trigger and try an easy combo to kill them real quick. Try using XXX. Three hits will take one of the Ninjas out easily. Once both Ninjas are dead, move forward to find yet another obstacle waiting for you. Another dagger with a note will land near you, so pick it up and read it! "Do not underestimate the agility that your training has given you. Feats such as running along walls should be simple for you to perform. If you cannot reach your destination with a single leap, make use of the surrounding walls." To get across this large gap, you will jump at a slight angle toward the wall on your right. Hold on to A the whole time so you will run along the wall and land on the next platform. Open up the chest on the left near the ledge for another Elixir of Spiritual Life. Next, you need to jump onto that branch sticking out from the side of the mountain and swing over to the next platform. All you need to do is jump towards the branch and you will automatically grab on and begin swinging. Press A a second time when you are at the bottom of your swing to jump forward to next ledge. Just as you land, another note will fly by into the wall ahead. Take a look at it for instructions on getting past your next obstacle. "One of your most useful techniques is the Flying Bird Flip. Jump towards a wall and run up to it, then jump off again. This allows you to travel to areas that may first seem unreachable. Repeat the Flying Bird Flip to climb certain shafts and passages." Jump towards the wood on the left and press A a second time just as you're about to hit the wall. You will kick yourself up to the high ledge on the right. Walk through this cave until two more Brown Ninjas appear around the corner. Remember to use block often to insure no health being lost. Keep using the XXX combo, and XXY combo for a little varation in your attacks. Another helpful move, is the roll. While holding down Block, use the Left Thumbstick to roll quickly in any direction. This is good to catch enemies off guard and to dodge attacks. After you finish off these two Ninjas, another will pop up around the corner as you walk a little further. Chop him up with your Dragon Blade and continue on. Next, you will have to perform three consecutive Flying Bird Flips in order to get up this shaft. Once you're out of the shaft, you'll be into a new area. A fortress lies before you... Ninja Fortress -------------- Items: Elixir of Spiritual Life x3 Lives of the Thousand Gods x1 Equip: None Not long after you step into this new area, two more Brown Ninjas will run from the building and come after you. You should know how to handle these Ninja's very well by now. Go to your menu and pull up the weapon section. Highlight the Dragon Sword and press Y to check out more combos you can experiment with. Right now I would still suggest XXX, and XXY for these Brown Ninjas. They are very easy and effective combos. Once you've killed the Ninja's enter the building the same way they came out. Run down the long hallway until it makes a right turn. It will seem as though you've reached a dead end, but that is until you see white door on the right. Press X to open it up and enter a room with three Brown Ninjas. A little tougher now, but you can handle it. Use the walls around you to your advantage. Jump toward a wall and press A to begin a Flying Bird Flip. Midway through the flip, press Y to perform a Ciceda Slash. After killing the Ninjas break all the pots in this room with your sword to find some Essence. Learn about Essence in, "The Basics" section just above the Walkthrough. Finally, after the pots are broken, open up the only chest in this room for an Elixir of Spiritual Life. After raiding the room, enter the next room by going through the wooden door near the windows. The door will close behind you after you enter and three Brown Ninjas will pop out. This battle is different than previous ones. Now, as you kill a Ninja, another will enter the room and take his place. In all, I think you end up having to kill nine Brown Ninjas before the battle ends and the doors unlock. Try not to use any of your Elixirs of Spiritual Life unless your health gets below half (which I hope hasn't happened yet). Exit this room through another white door, and you'll be in a hallway. Go up to a small room with many things just lying around on the floor. On the shelf to your left there is a Elixir of Spiritual Life. Press X to pick it up. There is a second Elixir of Spiritual Life in another corner of the room sitting on a smaller shelf next to a bucket. Use the right thumbstick to search the room if you can't find it. Also, you will want to examine the suit of armor that is near the shelf. You notice that a part of its faceplate is missing. It is holding something in its hand as well. You will have to come back here later, once you find piece that is. Continue back down the hallway until it makes a left. Around the corner there will be four Brown Ninjas waiting for you. Dice them up with your sword and enter the white door up ahead. Inside you will find even more Brown Ninjas! Again, there will be three Ninjas, but more will enter as you kill them. In all you will have to kill nine Ninjas. After your killing spree, look to the chest in between the two lamps in this room. Crack that baby open for your first Life of the Thousand Gods. These things are very useful. By using it, it will permenantly raise your Maximum health limit. Go ahead and use the item now. Go into the Items section of your menu and press X to select and use them. Break all of the lamps in the room and you may get some more Essence. Next, you should notice a small rectangular opening in the room. It seems that it is being covered by a piece of wood. Swing your sword at it to clear a path into the next room. Inside this next room you will probably have the hardest battle you have had yet. Inside you will encounter a new type of Ninja, the White Ninja, as well as many Brown Ninjas. The White Ninja is the same as the Brown Ninja exect he has white clothing, and is much quicker, smarter, and more powerful than the Brown Ninja. A very good combo to use against both the Brown and White Ninjas is XYXY. This will instantly kill your target, if all four hits do hit. The good thing about the White Ninjas is that they are not too tough to kill and they drop Blue Essence, which refills your health. This means you can clear the room, exit the room, and come back in to kill them again. This will give you a lot of practice on these Brown and White Ninjas, a lot of Essence, and a lot of Karma. Karma determines the ranking you get at the end of the level. Once you have slaughtered enough Ninjas, look near the back of the room to find another rectangular opening blocked off by a piece of wood. Also, at the back of the room there is a trap door in the floor. You can easily spot it because of the different shades of wood. Walk around the trap door and to the opening. Knock the wood out with your sword and walk to a new room. This is where you will save your game. Press X next to the dragon head that is floating above the pedestal to save your game. Return to the room you were in before and drop down through the trap door. Underground Storehouse ---------------------- Items: Fangs of the Samurai Equip: None Now, you are in the caves below the Ninja Fortress. Nothing in here poses any threat, luckily, just a couple of bats. Give them a single swipe with your sword to kill them. Move forward through the Storehouse and you'll see the exit just ahead. It's blocked by two torches. To the left there is a small opening in the rock and a chest inside. Kick it open for the Fangs of the Samurai. This is the piece of the mask that is missing from the suit of armor in the Fortress. And yes, you guessed it! We'll have to return to that suit of armor and place these Fangs back where they belong. To do so, you'll first have to exit this Underground Storehouse. Slash the torches with your sword so you can get by. Ninja Fortress -------------- Items: The Talisman of Rebirth Equip: None Outside of the cave is a cliff. Look to the right to find some ledges that you can easily climb up. After the second ledge, another dagger with a note attached flies by your ear. What could it say? "Some ledges or platforms above you can be reached simply by jumping towards them and running straight up. A Ninja must know the appropriate technique to use in every situation. Remember that unneccessary acrobatics may backfire on you." Follow the instructions on the note to climb up the board and up onto a wooden platform running along side the Fortress. Follow this path until you run into two Brown Ninjas. Pfft... these guys are cake for you now. Swing your sword around a bit until your foes have met their end. Continue along the wooden walkway until you come to the opening that allows you to enter the Fortress again. You will be in a 2nd floor room of the Ninja Fortress with a hole in the floor for you to drop through. Before you do that, open up the only chest in this room. Inside you will find The Talisman of Rebirth. This Talisman will stay with you until the next time you die. The next time you die, it will be activated and bring you back to full health, but it only works once. Very useful item indeed. Now you can drop down into the room below. This room should look familiar. It is the room just before the trap door room. Instead of going into the room with the trap door you need to backtrack to the small room with the suit of armor. Exit this room through the white door into a room with a small set of stairs. Walk down the stairs and make a right into the hallway. Up ahead you should see the armor. Walk up to it and press X to insert the Fangs of the Samurai you have obtained and you will receive the Key of Courage. Now, if you can remember where the save point was, return to it. You need to return to the trap door room and go through the small rectangular opening. Save your game once more and then go up the stairs. You will pop out on a long wooden bridge that leads to another building. Follow this bridge and kill the White Ninjas along the way. Remember to use the Combo XYXY on them. Follow the bridge until you reach double doors that require the Key of Courage to open. Luckily, you already have this key! Inner Sanctum ------------- Items: None Equip: None After you unlock the door and walk in, it will lock behind you and three White Ninjas will attack you. More Ninjas will come in as you kill them. You will have to kill six in all for the doors to unlock. Walk up the stairs and open the white door to enter a large room. In this room is a large, well built man sitting in the floor. His name is Murai and you'll have to fight him now. _______________________________________________________________________________ BOSS: Murai ------------ Murai is one tough cookie if you don't know what you're doing, but I'm here, so you'll be just fine. There are multiple ways you can go about this. First of all, I must say, the Left Trigger is your friend! Block often and Murai will not do damage to you most of the time. Now, one effective way of doing damage to Murai is to hold down Y to charge up your sword. Wait for him to walk to you and let go of Y just before Murai is about to attack. If you have a good eye and can time things just right, this will work great. Just rinse and repeat that to kill this boss. You can also do damage to him by holding Block and rolling directly away from Murai. He will then either flip toward you or do some other move where he lunges in your direction. Normally, Murai will simply block your attacks if you try to swing at him, but just after he does his flip or his lunge move, he is vulnerable to attacks for a moment. If you can get a few hits off right after he flips toward you, roll away from him again when he starts blocking attacks again and repeat the process. Finally, another somewhat effective way of dealing damage is to run along the wall or do a Flying Bird Flip off of the wall and then pressing Y above him. If none of these methods suits you, you could also block Murai's attacks and while blocking, roll to his side or behind him and unleash a couple of attacks. Whichever of these methods you use, do whatever it takes to defeat this tough boss. It appears that your village has been destroyed and your clan, slaughtered. =============================================================================== ----- Chapter Two "The Hayabusa Ninja Village" -------------------- =============================================================================== -- The village is burning. Before long, Ryu hears the screams of his brethren... -- Inner Sanctum ------------- Items: Elixir of Spiritual Life x1 Equip: None Before you leave the Inner Sanctum talk to Murai so he can teach you a few things about combat. After you have talked to him, walk to the back of the room and slash the pot open to reveal an Elixir of Spiritual Life. Now, you can exit the Inner Sanctum. Run across the wooden bridge to the Ninja Fortress and save your game here again. Ninja Fortress -------------- Items: None Equip: None Now, first we need to get to the Hayabusa Ninja Village, hence the name of the Chapter. To get there we will need to get out of the Ninja Fortress and back out in the Valley of Shadows. From the save point, run back into the trap door room. Be careful not to fall through the trap door. Make your way to the next room through the small rectangular opening in the wall. Move to the left of this room and go through the white sliding door into the room with the old suit of armor. As you step into the hallway, you should see another white door on the left. Next, run through two more rooms and you'll be in the a long hallway. This is the way you came in. Run through the hallway until you are finally outside. Make a left just as you step outside and drop into the hole. You should now be in a cave area. Run through the cave and drop down to another floor and you'll be back in the Valley of Shadows. Valley of Shadows ----------------- Items: None Equip: None Now, as you look across the gap that lies ahead of you, there are two options. The long way, or the short way. I'm guessing you'd like to take the short way of course. Use the Right Thumbstick to look down and off to the right. You should see the area you began Chapter One in. Jump all the way down there to the very bottom of this mountain. If you look back you should see the river and the waterfall we were at before. Instead, look at your map to find the path that leads to the Hayabusa Village Altar. This is where we'll be going. Run straight along that path that runs along to the right of the cliff. Eventually, the path will curve to the left and you'll run through double doors that have been opened. This takes you to the Altar. Altar ----- Items: Elixir of Spiritual Life x1 Elixir of the Devil Way x1 Life of the Gods x1 Equip: The Art of the Fire Wheels x1 Up ahead you'll see some strange looking object that looks like a birdhouse. Press X to interact and you'll receive The Art of the Fire Wheels. This is your first Ninpo magic scroll. Read about Ninpo in Section VII, called Ninpo. Fitting name, I must say. After retrieving your scroll the birdhouse-looking thing will lower, allowing you to step onto an elevator that lowers you down to a new area. Before doing so, press Start and go to your Ninpo section. Select your newly acquired Ninpo and equip it. Now, step onto the lift and press X. As the lift hits the ground, don't jump forward out of the lift just yet. Turn around 180 degrees and jump off of the lift. There is a chest back in this small area. Inside you will find an Elixir of Spiritual Life. Now, jump back over to the other side of the lift and continue on. You will make a right and then come to a rather large gap. At first, it may seem impossible to get across, but by using your Wall Running skills, you shouldn't have a problem. Jump toward the wall on the left and hold A down to wall run and make it safely to the other side. Check out the chest on the right for an Elixir of the Devil Way. This type of Elixir refills your Ki Power, which is used in casting your Ninpo Magic. Learn all about this in the Ninpo section of this FAQ. By walking off to the left, three Samurais will run out and will begin to attack. You may notice they are much stronger than the Ninjas you were fighting back at the Fortress. However, they are still relatively easy if you block and roll often. You can normally block 100% of their attacks just by holding the Left Trigger down. A useful combo when fighting the Samurais is XYXY. This will kill a Samurai in one hit if all four strikes hit. After dicing up the Samurais, walk down into the clearing and make a left. Follow the path that veers off to the right. Eventually you'll come to a drop off and will fall onto a slanted mud hill. This will cause you to slide down no matter what you do and cause you to fall into a pond at the bottom. Or, if you don't feel like getting that nice purple suit of yours wet, just at the bottom of the hill you can jump and grab onto a branch sticking out from the cliff on the right. Jump from branch to branch and you'll land right in the middle of two Samurais. Use the same strategy as last time. If you like, use the walls around you to pull of some nice moves. As you are fighting, another new enemy will appear. We'll call him a Samurai Mage, because that's just what he is! When the Samurai Mage appears, I would suggest taking him out first. He has a deadly ranged attack that deals some pretty nasty damage. Samurai Mages can also teleport themselves short distances. Just remember to block and roll often to defeat them easily. They have pretty weak defense. After killing this group of Samurais, continue down the path until you reach a demolished bridge. To your left is a waterfall, and on the other side of the broken bridge you will see another save point! Before doing anything, there is a chest in this area that is hidden quite well so let's grab that. If you use the Right Thumbstick to look over in the area of the Save Point, but just below it you will see a wooden plank that you can climb onto from the water. Jump down and climb onto the wooden ledge. Look over across the water and you should see an area that is partially inclosed by a few pieces of wood. To get over there you need to use your Running on Water skill. To do this you need to run out into the water. Just as your out over the water and about to hit, begin pressing A repeatedly to run over to the alcove. Inside you will find a chest that was blocked from view by the boards that were up. Crack that baby open for a Life of the Gods. Run over the water back to where you started and climb up a couple of ledges to the other side of the bridge near the Save Point. Save your game here! Step through the entrance to the Village after saving. Hayabusa Village ---------------- Items: Statue Head x1 Life of the Gods x1 Elixir of Spiritual Life x2 Elixir of the Devil Way x1 Bow x1 Great Spirit Elixir x1 Technique Scroll: Counter Attacks x1 Equip: None Now, after you first walk in and start walking straight for a while, three more of those pesky Samurais will step out. Dice them up real good so you can continue on. As you kill the Samurais, more will come in their place. When they are all dead, walk straight, ignoring everything else until you come to a dead body. Next to the dead body you will find a stone head that has come off from a statue. Pick it up and run back to the entrance of the Village. Before you get to the gates to the village, look to the left. You should see three statues. All of them have heads except for the on on the right. Interact with X to place the head back on the statue. You will receive a Life of the Gods for doing so. Look directly across from the statues and you should see a path that runs along to the left of a building. Take that path until you come to another dead body of a Ninja. Examine him and take the Elixir of Spiritual Life he is holding. Return to the entrance to the Village and then go straight ahead near the area where you previously fought the Samurais. To the left you should find two ledges you can climb to reach the second floor of a house. Hop through the window of the house and drop down to the floor. Next, drop through the hole in the floor to reach the first floor of the house. Go to the back of the house to find a statue of a man. He looks very old and has a pack on his back. Interact with X to find that this is a shop. You will find these statues all over the world. This is where you will buy your Items, Supplies, and upgrade your Weapons. Talk to the old man for some information. Next, take a look at the Shop. The first thing I suggest buying is The Art of Inferno. This is another Ninpo Magic scroll. With your left over money, purchase a few Elixir of the Spiritual Life. I wouldn't leave this shop with less than 5 potions, because some tough enemies lie ahead. If you already have quite a few potions on you, you can max out your Elixir supply (10). Walk away from the shop and check out the shelves on the left. On these shelves you will find an Elixir of Spiritual Life and an Elixir of the Devil Way. Now, walk to the exit of this building to find a bow lying on the floor in front of the door. Pick it up and equip it as your Projectile Weapon. Now you can exit the building just to be ambushed by a combination of Samurais and Samurai Mages. Hopefully you won't have much trouble if you remember to roll and block. The Samurai Mages usually drop Blue Essence so you may not even have to use a single Elixir! After the fight, walk over to the dead Ninja in the corner and fill up your arrow supply. Walk off down the path, but beware... you are about to fight a rather tough sub-boss. As you walk, a piece of a building will fall off behind you and two Samrais on Horses will enter the area. _______________________________________________________________________________ SUB-BOSS: Samurais on Horses ----------------------------- This sub-boss can be quite tough if you aren't too familar with combat yet. Again, I will tell you to block and roll often. There are two ways to knock a Samurai off of his horse. You can either shoot him with an arrow, or slash his horse with your sword until the horse dies. Since it only takes a single shot with an arrow to knock a Samurai off of his horse, this is the method I would suggest. This can also be a dangerous method. Since you are firing your bow in first person you may not see another horse coming at you, so if you don't think you are a very good shot with your bow you can use your sword. When using your sword I would suggest that you wait in one spot with the Left Trigger held down until a Samurai on his horse attacks you. Just after the attack you can jump in the air and press Y to perform the Helmet Splitter technique. You can also use XXX or XXY to slash the Horse in the back. After you knock a rider off of his Horse, use previous strategies to kill the Samurai. I would suggest that you do not use your Ninpo in this fight. Save it for the upcoming battle against the boss of this Chapter. In all, I believe you end up killing 4 of the Samurais on their Horses. It depends on the difficulty you are playing. There are to paths blocked off by fallen debris, but only the one that you can jump over. Jump over the fallen wood and you'll be in a small area with a dead Ninja and a Save Point. Interact with the Dead Ninja and take the Great Spirit Elixir from his hand. This item is the same as an Elixir of Spiritual Life, but it heals all of your Health. Save your game now and prepare for a tough Boss fight. When you are ready walk out onto the bridge that is near the Dead Ninja and the Boss you will be fighting will step out. Very dangerous looking! _______________________________________________________________________________ BOSS: Samurai Horseman ----------------------- For just the Chapter Two Boss, this guy is no chump. I must say he is the toughest Boss yet. The main thing that makes this guy so tough, are the Samurai Mages that accompany him. These guys can make or break you in this battle. One advantage of having these Mages in this fight is that you can kill them and use their Essence to pull of some deadly Techniques. So let's get started with a strategy. You will begin the battle with the Samurai Horseman coming straight at you on the bridge. Just before he gets to you hold down block and roll of to one side. Then run to the very far end of the bridge where two of the Samurai Mages are. Wait for one to either attack you with his swords or with his magic. If you can see him start to cast his spell, wait till the very last second before it is cast and then roll toward him and dice him up real fast with an XYXY combo. If all four strikes hit, you'll know he's dead. Hold down Y to charge your sword. Wait for the Essence to be absorbed into your Dragon Sword and wait for the Samurai Horseman to come to you. Just before he gets to you, let go of the Y button and push your Left Thumbstick toward him. If it works, you will do massive damage to the Horseman. Repeat the process until the Boss is dead. Unfortunately, there are two things to worry about when using this very effective method. First of all, a Samurai Mage could attack you while you are charging your weapon. There isn't much you can do. Just dice up your attacker and then use his Essence to try again. Another downside is if you run out of Mages to pull of these Essence boosted attacks. This probably won't happen, but if you fail in the attack a lot it could. From here I would suggest using your arrows until they run out. Stand at one end of the bridge with Block held down and wait for him to come to you. He will attack, and turn around. This is your time to fire and arrow or two. Also fire a couple arrows when he turns around and is on his way back to attack you. Remember to hold down block when he gets close, and don't use first-person to fire the arrows. If you follow this strategy, hopefully you'll have no troubles with this Boss. Walk through the large wooden doors to exit the bridge and end the Chapter. Enjoy the pretty Movie! =============================================================================== ----- Chapter Three "Skies of Vengeance" -------------------- =============================================================================== -- The Hayabusa Village has burned, and the Dark Dragon Blade is gone. Ryu has stowed aboard an Airship headed for the Vigoor Empire. His goal: vengeance... -- Living Quarters -------------------- Items: Elixir of the Devil Way x1 Elixir of Spiritual Life x1 Airship Map x1 Wing Key x1 Equip: This is one of my personal favorite Chapters and I'm sure you will enjoy it too! It seems you have hopped aboard an Airship headed for the Vigoor Empire hoping to find Doku. You start off in a small room with a Save Point, a couple of beds, and a table. First off, head for the table and take the Elixir of the Devil Way. Then, save your game quickly. Exit this room into a hallway. Walk to the room straight across from the one you started out in and take the Elixir of Spiritual Life from the table. Exit the room and make a left. Walk down the hallway and go through the first door on your left. This is a larger room and has a Chest in it. Open the chest for a map of the Airship. After walking around the room for a second or two, a Black Vigoorian Guard will swing into the room through the window, and a White Vigoorian Guard will enter through the door. The White Vigoorian Guards are much easier than the Black. The White Vigoorian Guard shouldn't be much trouble for you. Just pull of a basic combo: XXX, XXY, or XYXY. However, The Black Vigoorian Guard will be a problem, as he tends to block a lot of your attacks. To do some damage to this guy you can either roll to his side and catch him off guard or do an aerial attack from the wall. Once your two attackers are dead, exit this room back into the main hallway. Make a left and enter the first door on your right. Inside there should be an Elixir of Spiritual Life on the table. Grab it and exit the room. Now, make a right once you're back in the hallway and head for the door up straight ahead. As you get close to the doorway, two more Vigoorian Guards will attack. One is Black and the other, White. As you kill the guards, more will enter through the windows. After clearing this small area a Wing Key will appear in the middle of the floor. Pick it up. This will grant you access to the door up ahead. On the other side of the door is the Main Deck. Main Deck --------- Items: None Equip: None Make a left and go down the spiral staircase. At the very bottom you will find another statue of Muramasa. Here you can buy items once more. But, before you buy anything, go to the Blacksmith section and upgrade your Dragon Sword to Level 2 for 3000 Essence. This is highly recommended. If you have some money left over, buy the Technique Scroll: Izuna Drop in the Shop section. Buy buying this scroll you will be able to perform a very deadly Technique to use on your enemies. The combo is XYXXXY. Try it out for yourself! Walk back up the stairs and you'll see a green carpet straight in front of you. Follow it to the left until you come to a locked door. Now make a right and then a left to come to a sliding door. Inside are a bunch of useless documents. Exit through a second door (not the one you came in from) into the Crew Compartment. Crew Compartment ---------------- Items: Golden Scarab x1 ID Card x1 Life of the Gods x1 Equip: None Inside waiting for you are three White Vigoorian Guards. Use the walls to perform some aerial attacks on them and try out your new Izuna Drop. As you kill the White Vigoorian Guards, a black one will swing in through the window. Now that you have new Techniques since your Dragon Sword has been Upgraded, the Black Vigoorian Guards will prove to be much easier. One very helpful Technique is the Flying Swallow. Press Y while jumping towards an enemy to perform it. This is a very fast Aerial attack and it is rarely blocked by a Vigoorian Guard. Sometimes you will even be able to kill in one hit by decapitating your enemy with this attack. After the battle, both of the doors in this room will unlock. Go through the door that is white, not the metal plated one. The white door will lead you into a hallway. Make a right and there will be a door directly to your left. Open it up to be taken into the Captain's room. The first thing you should notice is the Golden Scarab on the right Window Sill. Pick it up and then examine the papers that are on the desk. The paper says something about an incident on Feburary 22nd when all of the locks on the Airship were deactivated. It seems this problem came up because of a malfunction of the primary power supply unit in the Aft Cabin. Before you leave this room, grab the Map of Tairon that lies on the right side of the desk. Now proceed to the elevator near the bookshelves and ride down to a lower floor. Follow the curved path until you come to another elevator shaft. You will arrive in a room with two White Vigoorian Guards. As you kill the guards more will enter through the windows. After killing the White Guards, a Black one will come in through the elevator. Kill him with the Flying Swallow and an ID Card will appear in the middle of the floor. Pick up the ID Card and enter the door that is right next to the elevator. Inside are a bunch of useless documents and a chest in the back of the room. Kick the chest open for a Life of the Gods. Now exit this small storage room and go back up the elevator. As you step out of the elevator walk straight for a couple feet and then enter the door on your left. Two White Vigoorian Guards will appear. You should know how to handle them real well by now. Bust out your combos on them and make your way down this long hallway until you come to another door. Go through the door and save your game at the Save Point on the other side. Next, go through the door that is directly across from the door you just came through. Now you will be on a small path that is outside of the Airship. It just connects two different sections of the Airship. You can look down and see the city lights if you like. After you are through sightseeing, continue down this short path and go through the door which will take you to the Middle Cabin. Middle Cabin ------------ Items: None Equip: None Directly to your left you will find a box containing a never-ending supply of arrows. Replenish your arrow supply if you seem to be low and then make your way to the opposite end of the room. At this side of the room there are six boxes you can smash open for some precious Essence. Also at this side of the room there is a large door that can be lowered by using the device to the right of it. Press X to turn the device and lower the door little by little. On the third turn, approximately four White Vigoorian Guards will come flying in through the windows. Slice them up no sweat and get back to your turning. After seven more turns the door will finally be fully lowered. Step out onto the lowered door and two White Vigoorian Guards will step out onto the platform on the other side of a large gap and begin shooting at you with their guns. The only thing for you to do is fight bullets with... arrows! Pull out your bow and kill the Guards in first-person. Zoom in with the Right Trigger and kill the Vigoorian Guards with two arrows each. After they are dead, walk to the right side of the door you just lowered and jump up onto the big wire that stretches from the side of the airship you are on to the other side. Make your way over to the other side and drop down. You have made it to the Aft Cabin. Aft Cabin --------- Items: None Equip: None Hmm, Aft Cabin... that should ring a bell. This is where you are supposed to disable the power on the ship in order to unlock all doors. Follow this platform on the outside of the ship until you come around to a Black Vigoorian Guard. You do not want to use the Flying Swallow here. If you do, chances are you will shoot right off the side of the Airship. Stick with attacks from the ground for this fight. After the Black Vigoorian Guard is dead you will notice that the door to the Power Supply Room is, yes... locked. Luckily if you walk around to the right side of the room you will see that the window has been broken and then taped shut. Break the window with your Dragon Sword and hop on in. Once inside you will notice a bunch of wires and buttons and things. It's time to have a bit of fun. What you need to do is go wild in here with your sword in order to cause another malfunction. So... start slashing everything with your sword until you hear an alarm and an announcement. The Airship has been switched to its emergency power and the locks on all doors have been opened as a safety precaution. Now that your work is done here in the Aft Cabin you should return to the Main Deck. You should be able to remember how to get back there correctly. If you have some troubles, look back at your map with the Black Button. Cross the large gap to the Middle captain via the large wire, restock on arrows and then return to the Fore Cabin to save your game at the Save Point. You should be at the bottom of a spiral staircase similar to the one where you found Muramasa's statue. Climb up this spiral staircase to the Main Deck and then visit Muramasa's shop for more Elixirs and other things. If you have the money I would suggest maxing your Elixir supply (10). Go through the double doors that are in between the two spiral staircases and into the long hallway that rests between the Captain's Quarters and the Crew Compartment. Go down this long hallway to the door at the end. This door is now unlocked! On the other side of this door is a staircase with two White Vigoorian Guards at the top of it. Keep the Left Trigger held down and roll your way up the staircase. The Guards shouldn't hit you once. When you have rolled all the way up to them, kill them of course. Gas Compartment Passageway -------------------------- Items: Golden Scarab x1 Great Spirit Elixir x1 Equip: Next, stand at the top of the stairs and face the stairs. You should see that ahead of you is a raised platform. Go to the right of the stairs and jump up onto the platform above. Once you make it up you will be encountered by a combination of Black and White Vigoorian Guards. Use previous strategies to kill them with ease. After killing these guards you should see a large box that is off on one side of the floor. Jump onto this box and once on top do a Flying Bird Flip off of the wall to land on yet another higher platform. On this skinny platform you will find another Golden Scarab. Pick it up and drop back down to the platform you fought the Guards on. Run forward along another skinny platform and you will eventually find a chest to your right. Inside is a Great Spirit Elixir! Follow the path ahead and jump across a platform to reach an area with two White Vigoorian Guards and a Black Vigoorian Guard. Kill them and continue even further down this Passageway until you come to a caged in area with boxes stacked up. What you have to do is wall run up the wall with red lights covering it. In the middle of your wall run press A again to perform a Flying Bird Flip which will flip you up onto the above platform. There are even more Vigoorian Guards up here that will begin shooting. Cut them up with your Dragon Sword and run down to a ladder shaft lit by red lights. Now, you could climb up the ladder, but unfortunately the hatch at the top of the ladder is locked, so don't waste your time. What you are going to have to do is perform a multiple Flying Bird Flip off of the walls of the shaft to reach an opening up above. If you do it you will see what I mean. Four Flying Bird Flips should propel you up to the small opening. Up here you will find a switch that unlocks the hatch above the ladder. Now you can drop back down and climb up the ladder. After going through the hatch you will be brought to the top of the Airship and will begin a fight with the Boss of this Chapter. _______________________________________________________________________________ BOSS: Vigoorian Commando ------------------------- This Boss for Chapter Two doesn't look easy, but believe me, you probably will have no problems with him. The Vigoorian Commando is possibly the easiest boss in the game. You start off right in front of this Boss and if you stand still very long he will blast you with his Rifle. We'll call it a Plasma Rifle. Hopefully you won't have to worry about shots from his Plasma Rifle for long because I suggest staying close enough to him so he won't fire it. Now, since you are close he will be forced to use his melee attacks, which can be easily avoided. The plan is to run up to him and give him a good swipe or two with your sword. When the Vigoorian Command goes to smash you with his fist, hold down Block. Now beware, right after he hits you with his fist he will try to grab you. Just before he tries to grab you roll directly away from him. Now you can repeat the process. You can seriously go throughout this entire fight without getting hit once. Now, just in case you ever happen to be pretty far away from him and have to dodge his ranged attacks with his Plasma Rifle you need to do a Jump + Roll Combo as I call it. As you probably already know, there is a small pause in your movement right after you perform a roll. By rolling and then jumping right after, there will be no pause. You need to Roll, Jump, Roll, Jump, Roll, Jump around the Commando very fast to miss all of the shots with his weapon. All in all, a very easy fight. Spread out before him is the city of Tairon, capital of the Vigoor Empire... -- Entrance to Tairon ------------------ Items: None Equip: None You will begin in a small secluded area away from the city and a Save Point is right next to you. Before you do anything, save your game! Hop off down a ledge where three White Vigoorian Guards are waiting for you. You shouldn't have any problems at all with them. The Flying Swallow technique usually takes them out in a single hit. Continue down a curved path until you eventually come to the city itself. Follow this stone path until a dagger flies by and lands on the right side of the walkway. Read it for some useful info! "In this city there is a club called Han's Bar that is a well-known watering hole, as well as the center of Vigoor's underground intelligence. There you will find clues about Doku's whereabouts. Go there now. You should be able to find it easily by its garish neon sign." If you haven't guessed, you will have to go to Han's Bar in this Chapter. Take a look at your map to get a general location of the bar. It may seem easy to get there at first, but there are many locked doors and dangerous foes that will cause difficulties. Go forward until you come to a large circular area with a stone statue in the center of it. This area is known as the Twin Serpents Plaza. Twin Serpents Plaza ------------------- Items: Great Spirit Elixir x1 Equip: None This area, although small, is a very important place in the game. You will return here multiple times throughout the course of the following twelve Chapters. Before doing anything else, make a left and go into the caged area to find a chest. Open it up for a Great Spirit Elixir. Nice! From this plaza there are two directions you can go. If you look at your map you will see both of them. To the south is a gate with a strip of blue above it. The blue means there is something important this way. Unfortunately it is locked. This means you'll have to take the path with blue lines circling it. If you look on your map it is to the east. Follow this narrow passage and you will run into three more White Vigoorian Guards. They are standing in front of the door you have to go through. As soon as you are in their sights they will begin shooting at you like mad with their pistols. Hold down Block until they have to reload and use Flying Swallow a couple of times to decapitate the Guards. Once they're out of the way go through the wooden door up ahead. On the other side is the Military Gate. Military Gate ------------- Items: Technique Scroll: Guillotine Throw x1 Lives of the Thousand Gods x1 Life of the Gods x1 Equip: As soon as you enter this area, stick along the wall on your left until you come to the corpse of a Ninja. Take the Technique Scroll: Guillotine Throw he is holding and open up the Info section in the main menu to see how to use it. Guillotine Throw is a decent attack in the early Chapters. The controls used are the same as the Flying Swallow, but it depends on how close you are to the enemy's head when you press Y. If you jump forward real low and close to the enemy's head, you will grab them by the neck and throw them over your head for some pretty nice damage. After checking out your new Technique Scroll, walk over to the large gates. In front of the gates is another dead Ninja. Take the arrows that are stuck in his corpse to refill your arrow supply. Turn around and head to the door with the circle and the orange dot on it, but just after a couple of steps you will be ambushed by a few White Vigoorian Guards and a Black Vigoorian Guard with a Grenade Launcher. I would suggest taking out the Black Vigoorian Guard since he is more of a threat to you, and killing the White Vigoorian Guards last. After the group of guards is dead, you can go through the wooden door with the orange dot. Directly on the other side of the door you will be attacked by three more White Vigoorian Guards. Smack them around with your Dragon Sword until they are all dead. You may notice a fenced in area on the right with a bunch of goodies inside. There is a Golden Scarab, a Chest, and a Shop in there. Unfortunately, this area cannot be reached until a later Chapter, so don't worry about missing any items here because you will be back many times. Follow the narrow path and go down the stairs on the left. At the bottom of the stairs make a right and go down yet another passageway. You may notice a door on the left. It is locked at the moment so disregard it for now. So continue forward until another dagger with a note attached hits the stone in front of you. Open it up for another word of advice. "When in doubt, look to the color blue for the path." After reading the note and standing on this platform for a second or two, you will be shot at by two White Vigoorian Guards who are on two different balconies not too far away. Pull out your Bow and kill them both quickly before they get too many shots off. Two arrows per Guard should kill them. After they are dead you need to get over to the platforms they were on for an item. If you look, you will see a flight of stairs very close to you. Walk down to or three steps and look to the wall on your right. There is a blue pipe looking thing that stretches all the way to one of the balconies. Run straight up the wall and grab onto the pipe. Use the Left Thumbstick to make your way to the first platform. After looking around you will see a rope that stretches from this balcony to another. Jump onto the rope and make your way to the other balcony. Once you are over there, drop down and open up the chest for a Lives of the Thousand Gods. After obtaining the item, open up your menu and use it right away. Feel free to do a little dance, since you just increased your Health Bar by a half an inch! Woohoo! After opening the chest there will be two White Vigoorian Guards standing where you were earlier. Take them out with your Bow real quick. After those two are dead, head back to where they were standing. This is where the Kunai Scroll landed earlier. Look down near the ground to the left of the small fence to find another Blue Pipe. Walk forward like you're going to walk off the edge of the platform and you will swing around and be hanging from this Blue Pipe. Pull your way to the right until you are under a small alcove with a chest. Pull yourself up into the alcove and open the chest for a Life of the Gods. Jump down to a large path and go to the right. Follow this path until it dead ends with a door with two orange dots on it. Go through this door into the Clock Tower Plaza. Clock Tower Plaza ----------------- Items: Spirit of the Devils x1 Golden Scarab x2 Suke's Diary x1 Great Devil's Elixir x1 Equip: Nunchaku Now, if you are low on potions, make a right until you come to Muramasa's Shop. This shop isn't like the others. The other shops have been bronze statues of him, but this is the real thing. The sign above the doors to his shop has some strange symbols and what looks like a dagger on it. Go into the shop and buy a few things. The first thing you should buy here is the Guide Map to the Capital of Vigoor. It only costs 100 Essence. After you have the Map you can buy some potions or the Wooden Sword if you like. The Wooden Sword comes in handy later in the game when you can upgrade it to it's highest level. After you are done shopping, exit the shop back into the Clock Tower Plaza. Make a right and then go through the first door on your left. The door should be bordered by Blue Lines. Go up the first set of stairs and three Vigoorian Guards (Two White and one Black) will attack from the left. Kill them quickly and continue up the stairs. Once at the top of the building, three Black Ninjas will fall from above after you walk a few steps. This is the toughest enemy encounter you have had yet (aside from the bosses, of course). The Black Ninjas are quick, and deadly foes if you do not know how to fight them correctly. Blocking is a requirement if you want to kill this enemy with ease. Black Ninjas can pull of some pretty big combos, so wait for them to finish before countering with your own. A very effective Technique is the Izuna Drop. This combo is XYXXXY. If you manage to pull this off you will not only kill the enemy you are using it on, but will do some "Splash Damage" to all of those around. Continue to block, roll, and use Izuna Drop to kill the Black Ninjas. Always keep moving, because they have Incendiary Shuriken that will explode and cause some massive damage. If you do not prefer Izuna Drop you can also try out the Flying Swallow, and other Aerial + Wall Attacks of your choice. Good Luck! After defeating the Ninjas, walk around the side of the building until you come to a strange shaped opening. Walk through to find a chest. Inside is a Spirit of the Devils! Use this right away to give yourself a second Ki Slot. Jump down from this ledge back to the main portion of the Clock Tower Plaza where you were before. Walk forward from where you landed to the big door with the many different colored dots on it. You can try to open it, but it's locked and cannot be opened at the moment. As you walk away from the door, a Kunai Scroll will fly into the wall next to you. Read it for some important info. "There must be some way to open the door with the eye design. You must do everything you can to find a way to get through it." The reason you must find a way to get through this door, is because you have to in order to get to Han's Bar. If you look at your map you will see. Walk away from this door and turn around so you are facing it. Go to the left of the door down a path. Make a right up ahead to find a dead Ninja on the ground. Interact with his corpse and take the Nunchaku he is holding. Now turn around and head back to the area with the large door with the eye design. If you continue past that large wooden door and past Muramasa's shop, you will finally come to a huge door with five Green Dots on it. Just as you step up to it, a combination of White and Black Vigoorian Guards will attack from behind you. You should kill them before doing anything else. Once they are dead, try Interacting with the lever to the right of the door with the Green Dots. By pushing the lever, the door will unlock! As soon as you step foot into the area ahead, a Kunai Scroll will shoot by. Read it to learn about the Black Ninjas. "A group of Ninjas dressed in black garb act with wicked intent in Tairon. They are members of the Black Spider Clan, and they act behind the scenes to hinder our progress. Do not let them leave Tairon alive." After reading the note, walk towards the fountain-like thing on the wall to your left. Grab the Golden Scarab that is inside the water. From this fountain, move forward and follow the stone path by veering to the left a bit. The first door on the right is a metal door that is locked and can't be opened from this side. To get to the other side you will have to go into the small alley that is to the left of the door and wall run up to the platform up above. Walk across and jump down into the area you couldn't reach before. Unfortunately, as you drop down into the room, three Black Ninjas will ambush you. Use your previous strategies and use the walls around you to your advantage. Once they are dead look to the back of the room for a chest. Kick it open for a ton of Essence of all colors. You should now have from 6,000 to 10,000 Yellow Essence unless you did a lot of killing for Essence in previous Chapters. Now, exit through the door that was locked from the opposite side. Make a left onto this path and follow it straight ahead. When the path comes to a T, make a right. On the left side of the path is a small set of stairs. Go up these stairs follow the path that wraps around the side of a building. As you follow the path, three Black Ninjas will pop out from the left. Kill them real quick and then go through the alley that they came from. At the end of the alley, you will have to do multpile Flying Bird Flips to reach a small elevated platform. Up ahead is a gap that you have to jump across to reach another platform. Jump across, and there will be another gap ahead of you. It looks like you won't be able to simply jump across it though. Wall run along the Blue Strips on the wall to your right to land safely on the platform ahead. By following this path now, you will come to a dead Ninja. He his holding Suke's Diary. Pick it up and see what it says. After taking a look at the Diary, continue forward. You should see that the path makes a right, but in front of you there is a Golden Scarab sitting between the two poles in the fence. Pick up the Golden Scarab and follow the path to the right. When it comes to a dead end, jump down onto a platform beneath you. Open the chest that is sitting near the edge of the platform and take the Great Devil Elixir that is inside. This type of Elixir is similar to the Elixir of the Devil Way except it fills up all of your Ki slots instead of just one. Before jumping down off of the platform, pull the switch that is on the wall behind you, to unlock the large door with the eye design. Now you can jump down. Now you are back to the main area of the Clock Tower Plaza with the door with the eye design. Two White Vigoorian Guards and a Black Vigoorian Guard will attack you, so you'll have to kill them before going through the door with the eye design. Once they're dead, open up the large door you just unlocked to be taken to Pleasure Street. Pleasure Street --------------- Items: Golden Scarab x1 Equip: Windmill Shuriken x1 Go down this long, curving path until you finally reach Han's Bar!! As you step into the area near Han's Bar, a cutscene will occur. The Bouncer in front of the bar will not let you in without a Ticket. It's funny that nothing can stop Ryu so far. No Black Ninjas or Guards... but a the bouncer to Han's Bar is preventing you from making it into the Bar. Pfft... Well, look on the bright side... Getting a ticket is as easy as buying a single item from Muramasa's Shop! There is a flyer near Han's Bar that says all paying customers receive a free ticket to Han's Bar. Before returning to Muramasa's Shop, you should do two things. Save your game at the Save Point to the right of Han's Bar, and do what I say so you can get a handy little weapon that has been hidden by Ayane so only a Ninja can reach it. After Saving, begin walking back down Pleasure Street in the direction of the Clock Tower Plaza. After walking a few steps, a Kunai Scroll will fly past you into a wall with Blue stripes on it. Read the Scroll to learn about what I just told you. "I have brought a legendary weapon to Tairon, a weapon known only by a select few. I have hidden it in a dark alley, in a location where only a Ninja will be able to reach it. I suggest that you find it and make use of it." The alley she is referring to is the one you are standing next to right now. First, walk through the alley to the very back to find a Golden Scarab lying in plain view on the ground. Pick it up and run back to the entrance to the alley where you read the Kunai Scroll. You need to Wall Run along the Blue Stripes on the wall to your left. When the Blue Stripes end, press A to jump across to another wall with Blue Stripes. Do the same thing to get to the third wall. When the third wall ends, jump off toward the platform in front of you. Press Y just before you reach it to get some extra air and land safely on this elevated platform. Examine the Windmill Shuriken on the wall and pick it up. Examine the large silver X that is sitting on the pedestal to recharge your Health and Ki Slots. Once you're done, jump back down into the alley and return to the Save Point again. Save your game and then return to Muramasa's Shop in the Clock Tower Plaza to buy something. Clock Tower Plaza ----------------- Items: Han's Bar Party Ticket Equip: None While you're at the shop you may want to max out your Elixir of Spiritual Life supply and talk to Muramasa to give him the Golden Scarabs you have recently found. After purchasing you will receive your free gift: Han's Bar Party Ticket. Exit the shop and return to Han's Bar. Pleasure Street --------------- Items: Equip: Follow the long, curving path again like last time, but unlike last time, three Black Ninjas will attack. Kill them and try not to use many of your well earned potions. As you approach Han's Bar you will get to watch a pretty movie and get to see Rachel for the first time. After the cut scene, Chapter Four will end. Enemy List =- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ----- Chapter One "The Way of the Ninja" -------------------- =============================================================================== Brown Ninja ----------- The Brown Ninja is the probably the easiest enemy in the game, aside from the bat, which I decided not to include in this list. You are able to block 100% of their attacks by holding the Left Trigger and they rarely block your attacks. Simple Combos such as XXX, XXY, XYXY make quick work of the Brown Ninjas. White Ninja ----------- This enemy is just an improved version of the Brown Ninja and can be quite a hassle to people just learning the controls and are just starting to get the feel of the game. The White Ninja blocks a lot more of your attacks and is much quicker and smarter than the Brown Ninja. The combo I suggest is XYXY. It kills White Ninjas in a single combo if all four strikes hit. BOSS: Murai ------------ Murai is one tough cookie if you don't know what you're doing, but I'm here, so you'll be just fine. There are multiple ways you can go about this. First of all, I must say, the Left Trigger is your friend! Block often and Murai will not do damage to you most of the time. Now, one effective way of doing damage to Murai is to hold down Y to charge up your sword. Wait for him to walk to you and let go of Y just before Murai is about to attack. If you have a good eye and can time things just right, this will work great. Just rinse and repeat that to kill this boss. You can also do damage to him by holding Block and rolling directly away from Murai. He will then either flip toward you or do some other move where he lunges in your direction. Normally, Murai will simply block your attacks if you try to swing at him, but just after he does his flip or his lunge move, he is vulnerable to attacks for a moment. If you can get a few hits off right after he flips toward you, roll away from him again when he starts blocking attacks again and repeat the process. Finally, another somewhat effective way of dealing damage is to run along the wall or do a Flying Bird Flip off of the wall and then pressing Y above him. If none of these methods suits you, you could also block Murai's attacks and while blocking, roll to his side or behind him and unleash a couple of attacks. Whichever of these methods you use, do whatever it takes to defeat this tough boss. Samurais tend to block shots real well, so you will have to roll often and catch them off guard. Aerial attacks are good with them and the XYXY combo will also kill them if all four strikes do hit. Samurai Mage ------------ Similar to the Samurai I suppose, but this is the first enemy you encounter that casts magic. When it battles with both Samurais and Samurai Mages I would suggest killing the Mages first. They like to support Samurais with ranged attacks while you are busy fighting someone else. You can kill the mages with the same XYXY combo, but beware of their teleport skill. The Samurai Mage sometimes teleports behind you or teleports just to dodge your attack. They can also pull off some pretty big combos if you don't Block well enough. SUB-BOSS: Samurais on Horses ----------------------------- This sub-boss can be quite tough if you aren't too familar with combat yet. Again, I will tell you to block and roll often. There are two ways to knock a Samurai off of his horse. You can either shoot him with an arrow, or slash his horse with your sword until the horse dies. Since it only takes a single shot with an arrow to knock a Samurai off of his horse, this is the method I would suggest. This can also be a dangerous method. Since you are firing your bow in first person you may not see another horse coming at you, so if you don't think you are a very good shot with your bow you can use your sword. When using your sword I would suggest that you wait in one spot with the Left Trigger held down until a Samurai on his horse attacks you. Just after the attack you can jump in the air and press Y to perform the Helmet Splitter technique. You can also use XXX or XXY to slash the Horse in the back. After you knock a rider off of his Horse, use previous strategies to kill the Samurai. I would suggest that you do not use your Ninpo in this fight. Save it for the upcoming battle against the boss of this Chapter. In all, I believe you end up killing 4 of the Samurais on their Horses. It depends on the difficulty you are playing. I must say he is the toughest Boss yet. The main thing that makes this guy so tough, are the Samurai Mages that accompany him. These guys can make or break you in this battle. One advantage of having these Mages in this fight is that you can kill them and use their Essence to pull of some deadly Techniques. So let's get started with a strategy. You will begin the battle with the Samurai Horseman coming straight at you on the bridge. Just before he gets to you hold down block and roll of to one side. Then run to the very far end of the bridge where two of the Samurai Mages are. Wait for one to either attack you with his swords or with his magic. If you can see him start to cast his spell, wait till the very last second before it is cast and then roll toward him and dice him up real fast with an XYXY combo. If all four strikes hit, you'll know he's dead. Hold down Y to charge your sword. Wait for the Essence to be absorbed into your Dragon Sword and wait for the Samurai Horseman to come to you. Just before he gets to you, let go of the Y button and push your Left Thumbstick toward him. If it works, you will do massive damage to the Horseman. Repeat the process until the Boss is dead. Unfortunately, there are two things to worry about when using this very effective method. First of all, a Samurai Mage could attack you while you are charging your weapon. There isn't much you can do. Just dice up your attacker and then use his Essence to try again. Another downside is if you run out of Mages to pull of these Essence boosted attacks. This probably won't happen, but if you fail in the attack a lot it could. From here I would suggest using your arrows until they run out. Stand at one end of the bridge with Block held down and wait for him to come to you. He will attack, and turn around. This is your time to fire and arrow or two. Also fire a couple arrows when he turns around and is on his way back to attack you. Remember to hold down block when he gets close, and don't use first-person to fire the arrows. If you follow this strategy, hopefully you'll have no troubles with this Boss. This enemy does block occasionally and dies easily to basic combos. The only thing to look out for is the attack from behind where he grabs you and slits your throat for some large damage, so beware of that move. Black Vigoorian Guard --------------------- The Black Vigoorian Guard is just a stronger version of the White Vigoorian Guard. This type of enemy blocks attacks like no other we've seen yet. Wall attacks and aerial attacks like the Flying Swall are very effective. Most of the Black Vigoorian Guard's combos are only 3-4 strikes long, so wait that long before putting down your guard. BOSS: Vigoorian Commando ------------------------- This Boss for Chapter Two doesn't look easy, but believe me, you probably will have no problems with him. The Vigoorian Commando is possibly the easiest boss in the game. You start off right in front of this Boss and if you stand still very long he will blast you with his Rifle. We'll call it a Plasma Rifle. Hopefully you won't have to worry about shots from his Plasma Rifle for long because I suggest staying close enough to him so he won't fire it. Now, since you are close he will be forced to use his melee attacks, which can be easily avoided. The plan is to run up to him and give him a good swipe or two with your sword. When the Vigoorian Command goes to smash you with his fist, hold down Block. Now beware, right after he hits you with his fist he will try to grab you. Just before he tries to grab you roll directly away from him. Now you can repeat the process. You can seriously go throughout this entire fight without getting hit once. Now, just in case you ever happen to be pretty far away from him and have to dodge his ranged attacks with his Plasma Rifle you need to do a Jump + Roll Combo as I call it. As you probably already know, there is a small pause in your movement right after you perform a roll. By rolling and then jumping right after, there will be no pause. You need to Roll, Jump, Roll, Jump, Roll, Jump around the Commando very fast to miss all of the shots with his weapon. All in all, a very easy fight. Black Vigoorian Guard --------------------- The Black Vigoorian Guard is just a stronger version of the White Vigoorian Guard. This type of enemy blocks attacks like no other we've seen yet. Wall attacks and aerial attacks like the Flying Swall are very effective. Most of the Black Vigoorian Guard's combos are only 3-4 strikes long, so wait that long before putting down your guard. Black Ninja ----------- This enemy is a very frusterating one. Black Ninjas are very quick and pull off some big combos that do some big damage. They also wield Incendiary Shuriken which explode for some big damage as well. The trick to defeating Black Ninjas is to constantly Block and Roll. This will insure that the Incendiary Shuriken do not hit you. Use the walls a lot for Aerial attacks and use your Flying Swallow Technique a lot. Lastly, the Izuna Drop is great for killing a Black Ninja in a single Combo and for doing "Splash Damage" to any other surrounding enemies. =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -= X. Near the entrance to the Gas Compartment Passageway you have to Wall Run straight up a box and up to an elevated platform above the main passage. As you enter the wooden door with the three Green Dots on it on the left is a fountain with a Golden Scarab in the bottom of it. 5. At the end of the alley where the hidden Windmill Shuriken and the giant machine with the Xbox symbol that replinishes your life. The scarab is sitting in plain view. 7. Just after you leave the Drawbrige area, walk through the door with the Blue Dots and halfway down the path there will be an opening on both your right and left. On one side there is a chest with a Pegasus Key and on the other side you will see a small platform with a chest on it. Since Chapter Four is one of my least favorite chapters I wasn't really in the mood to write the Walkthrough for it, but finally I decided to get it over with today. Many of the side sections are completed. I've decided to submit the FAQ today. The document is probably 30% complete. I decided to submit this early so there would be plenty of time for feedback from my readers. It helps when they can point out things that should be changed. My goal now is to complete the FAQ sometime early next Month. VERSION 0.20 (March 17, 2004) ------------ KB: 93.4 NOTES: Well, I thought I'd give you another little update on how things are going. I haven't really been in the mood to add more to the Walkthrough so the Walkthrough is still at the beginning of Chapter Four. I have done a lot of work to other sections, however. I'm glad to get those out of the way. I'm thinking about submitting the FAQ once I'm halfway. I could always change my mind though =) The FAQ is at approx. 20% currently so I'm guessing the FAQ will end up nearing 500kb once it is at its Final Version. VERSION 0.15 (March 15, 2004) ------------ KB: 72.8 NOTES: Everything has gone very well. The first three Chapters are complete. There are still some other sections that need to be completed. The FAQ is about 15% complete I would guess. I'm still not sure when I will be submitting. VERSION 0.00 (March 13, 2004) ------------ KB: 0 NOTES: I have just started writing the FAQ today. I'm hoping to finish 1+ Chapter every day.
