You might know me as SuperSkyline89 from the forums at cheathappen.com. I'm 18 years old, and currently in first year automotive engineering. I've always wanted to become an author and I saw that no one has written an achievements guide here at cheathappens so I figured I'd give it a shot. I hope you find my guide useful and feel free to send me a private message and offer some feedback, even if it seems small and insignificant, any comments are welcome. ********************************************** * 1.2 - COPYRIGHT INFORMATION * ********************************************** Everyone seems to write this in their guides so . . . I made this guide exclusively for cheathappens.com. No one else has the right to post this guide but I would be glad to allow it as long you just ask. ********************************************** * 1.3 - THE GAME * ********************************************** Halo 3 is the final game in the Halo trilogy. It's currently only available in the X-Box 360 but one day it will probably be available for the PC as well. Widely regarded as one of the greatest games ever made, it's half the reason I bought an X-Box 360 in the first place (GTA IV is the second half). Long story short, the Covenant have been through a civil war that split the Sangheili (Elites) from the rest of the Covenant. The Jiralhanae (Brutes) are now official Honour Guards of the High Prophets. And last but definitely not least . . . the Covenant now control Earth. But at least the Sangheili are allied with the humans now, so there's something good in all of this. As always, you're the Master Chief (SPARTAN John-117) and humanities future is in your extremely strong hands. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * 2 - GETTING STARTED * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * ********************************************** * 2.1 - GAME CONTROLS * ********************************************** Since this guide is only about the achievements and you can get them all online or in the campaign I won't be including the controls for the Forge or the Theater. I've split them into similar groups to keep things simple. *** *** ***THE CAMPAIGN LEVEL COMPLETION ACHIEVEMENTS*** *** *** These are some of the easiest achievements in the game. You get one for beating each level of the game on Normal or higher difficulty. LANDFALL - 20G Beat the mission "Sierra 117" on normal or higher to get this one. Don't make it harder than it has to be and just do it on normal. It shouldn't give you any grief but if it is, then do it on easy to go through the story and figure out who you'll be fighting, then go back and do it on normal. HOLDOUT - 20G Beat the mission "Crows Nest" on normal or higher to get this one. Once again just do it on normal and try it on easy to get used to it. THE ROAD - 20G Beat the mission "Tsavo Highway" on normal or higher. You get the point by now right? I'll just stop mentioning the strategy for these achievements. ASSAULT - 30G Beat the mission "The Storm" on normal of higher. CLEANSING - 30G Beat the mission "Floodgate" on normal or higher. REFUGE - 30G Beat the mission "The Ark" on normal or higher. LAST STAND - 40G Beat the mission "The Covenant" on normal or higher. THE KEY - 40G Beat the mission "Cortana" on normal or higher. RETURN - 50G Beat the mission "Halo" on normal or higher. *** *** ***THE CAMPAIGN COMPLETION ACHIEVEMENTS*** *** *** These can't really be categorized in terms of difficulty. Each one is incredibly different in terms of difficulty but they're all pretty time consuming compared to the rest of the achievements. CAMPAIGN COMPLETE: NORMAL - 125G This one is pretty easy. If you already did the level completion achievements above, you'll get this one at the same time as RETURN. Same strategy as above also. CAMPAIGN COMPLETE: HEROIC - 125G This one isn't easy, but it's doable on your own. Assuming you've beaten the game on normal already, you should know the types of enemies you'll fight and what weapons are available. In heroic, this is all the same except that you're enemies do more damage, your attacks do less damage, and there are more enemies to fight. Make good use of the Covenant carbine, UNSC and Covenant sniper rifles, and use all your grenades. Equipment can also help greatly but I've never used it. Aim for the head and take cover to charge your shield often. Remember, this isn't about being "badass", just survive until the end. CAMPAIGN COMPLETE: LEGENDARY - 125G This one IS HARD. I really recommend that you just do this on co-op. Even 2 player co-op makes things a lot easier. The main advantage of co-op is that when someone dies, they respawn where their partner is. That way you can die and not have to do a checkpoint over again. But to get the most out of co-op you should really use headsets and talk to your partner a lot. Close friends are the best people to play with. Another advantage of co-op is that only player 1 is the Master Chief. Player 2 is the Arbiter, 3 is N'tho 'Sroam and 4 is Usze 'Taham. The last two are Sangheili that normally fight along side the Arbiter. The good thing about this is that Covenant weapons are much more effective against the Jiralhanae than the UNSC weapons are. And since Sangheili players spawn with carbine's it makes thing way easier. Just take it slow and make sure that at least one person stays a bit behind so it's impossible for everyone to die. Don't be discouraged if it takes a long time, it's normal for each level to take an hour or more. Once again, just worry about surviving because for now that's all that matters. *** *** ***THE SKULL ACHIEVEMENTS*** *** *** These achievements are relatively easy on average. Catch can be a hard one though. IRON - 10G This skull is on the level "Sierra 117". Play the level through on normal until you get to the part where you have to get Sergeant Johnson out of the "jail cell" the Jiralhanae put him in. Shoot your way to the bridge that goes over the water and has an underground tunnel under it. There are two Kig-yar (Jackals) on a raised platform on the right on the bridge, remember that place and come back to it once you kill all the Covenant. But don't set Sergeant Johnson free. Once the Covenant are dead, go back to that platform I mentioned earlier and jump up onto it. Walk on it away from the bridge, then jump onto a metal air conditioning unit kinda thing then onto another concrete platform above that. Follow that along the wall to the left, it'll reach another wall and turn left, then right around a corner and into little closed off place where the skull is. Pick it up and wait for the achievement notice. Then save and quit. If you activate this skull, you return to the start of the level when you die in solo and to the last checkpoint in co-op if someone dies. You get a 3x multiplier from it but the risk is so high that I don't recommend using it unless you're really good at Halo. Which I'm not. BLACK EYE - 10G This skull is on the level "Crows Nest". Unlike the last level, this skull is right at the start of the level. Normally you would go downstairs to do the level but instead go to up the small sets of stairs to the back of the room where there's a locked door and some empty weapons racks. Now turn around and face away from the locked door. There are a couple more weapons racks in front of you with red beams to their right. Jump onto the empty racks, then onto the red beams, then onto the big pipe on top of the beams. Walk to the end of the pipe and there is the skull. Pick it up and wait for the achievement notice. Then save and quit. If you activate this skull, your shields won't charge unless you melee an enemy. It gives you a 1.5x multiplier but unless you're really good at taking cover and not getting shot you probably don't want to use it. I tried it once and I got slaughtered pretty quickly because I'm one of those people that get up close and personal with the enemy. TOUGH LUCK - 10G This skull is on the level "Tsavo Highway". At some point in this mission, you get to an energy shield that's blocking a tunnel. Once you destroy that shield and go through the tunnel, a Sangheili assault carrier flies over you. Stop here and go to the left of the road where you'll see a giant pipe. Jump onto the pipe over by where the tunnel ends and walk along it until you get to the second yellow ladder, this one has a fence behind it. Jump over the fence without falling of the pipe. Right after that, look down to your left and there should be a concrete support beam far below. Jump down onto that, you won't die as long as you land on it properly. Follow that beam to it's end and look left. There's a small rock outcropping sticking out of the cliff with the skull on it. Jump onto the rock and grab the skull and wait for the achievement notice. Save and quit. Activating this skull means that your enemies will dodge grenades, needles, and splatter attempts much faster. You'll get a 1.5x multiplier, this one is very useful for the meta-game since it's easy to deal with, and I highly recommend using it. CATCH - 10G This skull is arguably the hardest skull to obtain, you definitely don't want to do this on anything but normal, not that there's any reason to do the others on anything higher either. The skull is on the level "The Storm". Fortunately this skull's near the start of the level. You start of dismounting some Warthogs, activate the door switch and walk straight in and you'll see some stairs. Go up those and then turn to the right and follow the hallway into the next room. There are plenty of Covenant here so just turn right and activate a switch above a big doorway. Once it opens the marines will move in and take out the Covenant with the Warthog, just let them do their thing. If some of them start dying, don't worry because they really make getting the skull harder. Once that room is clear, go and activate another switch by another big locked door. Let the marines move in and do their stuff. When they're done fighting, continue through the door that you just opened until you get to another closed door. Grab a ghost and leave the building. The skull is sitting on top of a silo kind of building beside the AA Wraith (Anti Air) but before you try to get to it there are some things to do. Most important, don't destroy or even fire at the Wraiths because if they get destroyed or the Jiralhanae in them are killed the skull disappears. There are a couple ghosts around here also, take them out. A dropship will drop two more, take them out also. Then all that's left is to get the skull. There are several ways to go about this . . . of which only one worked for me but they all work, I've seen it done on Youtube. Method 1) Get a Warthog and park it next to the silo. Then throw a grenade at your feet and jump so that the blast shockwave will give you an extra boost into the air. This can be hard since you need to park the Warthog where the top of the silo is the closest to the ground. But this just happens to be where the Wraith has a clear shot at you. Alternatively you can park a Ghost on the opposite side if the silo where there's a red wall next to the silo. Park a Warthog on top of the Ghost so the front end is higher than it could be otherwise. Then jump on the Warthog and try to jump onto the red wall. If you can't, then try grenade jump. Once on the red wall, jump onto the silo and grab the skull then run like hell because the Wraith should have seen you by now and will be shooting at you. Method 2) This is way easier since you're not out in the open. You'll need a deployable cover, go between the red wall and the silo. Face away from the silo and use the deployable cover, then jump on top of it. From there jump onto the red wall and then onto the silo. Grab the skull and get the hell out of there. Method 3) This is how I got this skull. Get a Ghost and cram it into the space between the red wall and the silo. To do this, you need to aim the Ghost so the right side of it will go right into the gap but the left side will hit the silo. This way the Ghost will flip onto it's right side and you can use the boost to make it go about half way into the gap. Get off the Ghost and go get another one. Do the same thing and get this Ghost on top of the first one using the boost. Jump onto your Ghost pile and jump onto the red wall and then onto the silo. Grab the skull and run. Now just wait for the achievement notice and save and quit. If you activate this skull, all AI units throw tons of grenades. That means all your enemies and even your allies. It has no effect on the Flood though since they don't use grenades. This one is easy to deal with so put it to good use. You'll have to change your tactics a bit though. Now Unggoy (Grunts) will be your biggest threat since they're packing tons of plasma grenades so they can kill you with a simple ambush. But as long as you take out the Unggoy fast, you'll be fine and can witness some HUGE explosions when the Unggoy terrorists come running and get shot in the face. Just don't go running into combat anymore since the grenades your enemies drop can go off and kill anything within a dozen meters. You'll get a 1.5x multiplier for using this one. FOG - 10G This one is on the level "Floodgate" and it's pretty easy and close to the start of the level. You start the level with an assault rifle and a battle rifle. Switch to the battle rifle and go to the edge of the destroyed city of Voi. Don't go in yet though, zoom up to the building on the right and move forward slowly. You'll see a Flood combat form on the roof holding the skull. Shoot it before it jumps to kill it so the skull drops. Timing is essential so the skull will drop down to you, if it doesn't just load the game again and adjust your timing. Once you get it right, pick up the skull and wait for the achievement notice. Save and quit. Activating the skull will make your motion sensor invisible and give you a 1.5x multiplier. If your really good at the game, then go ahead and use it but it's not necessary. FAMINE - 10G This skull is on the level "The Ark". Unfortunately you'll have to play a considerable amount of the level to get to it. Eventually you'll get to a place where you see a crashed UNSC bomber in the sand. After it you'll fight two Unggoy using plasma turrets. Right after this you'll drive off a small cliff. Instead of going straight, go to the right. There is a giant platform above you where the skull is. Continue under the platform until you get to the other side if it and the path goes to the right and starts going uphill. Stop there. Look to the right and there will be a small rock next to a big one. Jump on the small one then on the big on and finally onto the huge rock face and walk towards the platform. There's a big gap there but you can easily jump it. Do that and walk along the platform to the left. There are some support beams on the left, keep walking until you get to the last one, the skull is on it. Zoom on the end of the beam and you should see the skull. By the edge, the platform slopes downwards. Throw a plasma grenade there close to the edge of the beam and jump towards it. The blast will boost you and if you did it properly you'll land on the beam. Just keep trying and you'll get it eventually. Pick up the skull and wait for the achievement notice, then save and quit. If you can't grenade jump, use a deployable cover as a step to jump onto the platform. You can also jump and shoot a brute shot below you to create the same effect as a grenade. Using this skull will mean that any guns you find will have half the ammo. Might sound bad but it's nothing serious. Use it, it's an easy way to get more points. You get a 2x multiplier. THUNDERSTORM - 10G This one is on the level "The Covenant". It's after you clear the first generator tower. When you get back to the beach there are two UNSC Hornets waiting. Get in one and start gaining altitude. Look to your right and you should see the Arbiter and his troops leaving the second tower, go there. There is a ramp and a platform sticking out from the tower, land at it's base and walk up the ramp. The skull is a the top. There should be no enemies at this tower, if there are, you're in the wrong place. Activating this skull means all Covenant (including the Sangheili) are promoted to their next rank and you get a 1.5x multiplier. This is a pain in the ass with the Covenant but the Flood only get more shielded infected Sangheili forms which isn't that bad. I recommend using it in Flood levels like Floodgate, Cortana, and Halo. Otherwise, the Jiralhanae just become almost untouched by UNSC weapons. TILT - 10G This one's on the level "Cortana". Play the level until you get to a large circular room with a bunch of pure ranged forms and pure tank forms. It also has a lower level with a gravity hammer and a bunch of other Jiralhanae weapons. First clear the room since you'll get slaughtered if you try this without killing everything. Go back to where you entered the room, then walk into the middle of the room and look left. Up on the wall there are small "platforms" sticking out of the wall. In front of the wall, the floor slopes down but there is a part that stays raised. Jump on that part and then onto the small "platforms" in the wall. There are more of these platforms, just keep jumping higher and higher. Eventually you'll get to the highest point, there's a round thing extending from where you are to the other end of the room. Walk across it and grab the skull, save and quit. This one's really only for the experts. All enemies will have greatly increased resistance. Jiralhanae for example will have armor that is invincible to UNSC weapons and their skin will be really resistant to plasma. MYTHIC - 10G This one is on the level "Halo". Luckily you don't have to fire a single bullet. Just go forwards into a cave and follow the wall on the right. It will eventually leave the main path and go to the side. Follow it and the skull is in a dead end. This one's also for the experts, it doubles your enemies' health and gives a 2x multiplier. *** *** ***THE TERMINALS ACHIEVEMENT*** *** *** I know this in only one achievement but it involves finding 7 Terminals so I made it it's own group. The Terminals are on three levels. Three of them are on "The Ark", three on "The Covenant", and the last one is on "Halo". You need to stay in them until it turns red and redirects you but I recommend reading the whole thing as it's pretty interesting. Remember, you have to be on Normal difficulty for this one. THE ARK 1) Start the level as usual and fight your way past the valley where the Covenant are building a AA battery like the one you destroyed at the end of "The Storm". You also fight two Mgalekgolo (Hunters) here so you'll know when you get there. Then fight your way up the hill and into a Forerunner building. There is a door on your left that goes into a semi circle hall. Enter the hall and go into the Terminal. Wait for the screen to turn red and redirect you. One down, Two left. 2) Continue the level until you get to the part where the UNSC Frigate Forward unto Dawn lands and unloads three Scorpion Main Battle Tanks. Get in a tank and continue playing until you get to where you have to extend a light bridge to let the other tanks proceed. Right behind the bridge switch is the Terminal. Once again wait for the screen to turn red and be redirected. Two down, One to go. 3) Continue the level until you destroy the Scarab and go inside the building. Eventually you'll get to a room where there is a single Unggoy walking towards a door below you. Through that door is a room full of plasma batteries. Those are those blue things that blow up when you shoot them, they're used to charge plasma weapons. Don't follow the Unggoy or even shoot it. Drop down and go in the opposite direction of the Unggoy then turn right and there should be a door leading to the Terminal. You know the drill by now. THE COVENANT 1) Start the level normally and fight your way through the level until your standing on the elevator. Don't go up yet though. When you walk onto the platform, look straight ahead. There's a platform ahead, jump onto it and look around for the Terminal. 2) This one is on the second generator tower. Fly to it using a Hornet and land. There shouldn't be any enemies here. The Terminal is in the main entrance of the tower right across from the door leading inside. 3) This one is in the last tower. fight your way to the elevator just like the first tower. Once again jump onto the platform beside the elevator and find the Terminal. Halo This is the last one and it's the easiest to find since you don't have to fight anyone to get there. Start normally and go through the tunnel with the skull in it. When you exit the tunnel there will be a bunch of structural beams in front of you. Stop and turn to the right. There is another beam there but on the ground this time. Jump onto it walk into a building. Turn left once you're inside. While doing this, Cortana will ask where you're going, just ignore her. Once the Terminal is in view, she'll say "What's that?" That's all the Terminals, if you didn't get the achievement right now you did something wrong. Go back and read to make sure you got them all and that you stayed in them until you were redirected to a new message. *** *** ***THE "DO THIS IN CAMPAIGN" ACHIEVEMENTS*** *** *** That name might sound kinda dumb but I can't think of a better one. Basically these are the ones where it says do something "in a ranked playlist or in campaign". But it's easiest in campaign so that's what we'll do. The best thing is that you can do them on easy so SET THE DIFICULTY TO EASY for all of them. TOO CLOSE TO THE SUN - 5G For this one you have to destroy a Covenant Banshee with a spartan laser or missile pod. There are two places you can do it. One in "The Storm" and the other in "The Covenant". "The Storm is probably easier since there are missile pods there and they lock on. When you make it to the valley where the Scarab will show up (That's the one with two AA Wraiths) use a Ghost to get to the missile pods right away. Mount the missile pod turrets and shoot the Banshees flying around. You have to do this fast though since there are Hornets here also, and they'll destroy the Banshees if you take your time. The other way, in "The Covenant" is slightly harder since the spartan laser doesn't lock on. Start the mission and kill everything including the AA Wraith. Then look in the sky by the beach, there are several Banshees flying around. Just shoot at them from where the Pelican drops a Mongoose. Otherwise you can play until you get the Hornet, fly to the cliff between the second and third tower and shoot from there. I recommend you just do it on "The Storm" since it's way easier. WE'RE IN FOR SOME CHOP - 5G You have to destroy an enemy vehicle with equipment for this one, basically a trip mine. This is easily done on "Tsavo Highway". Play until you get to the part where there's an energy shield blocking a tunnel. One of the small buildings here has a couple trip mines in it. Just run in front of a Brute Chopper and use the mine. If the Choppers here are all destroyed, then continue until you get to where you fight a ton of Jiralhanae and they send in a Wraith. Beat this part and continue into the next valley. There are several Choppers here. Just get one's attention and use the mine. If you still can't do it, there are even more Choppers in the next Valley. FEAR THE PINK MIST - 5G This is the easiest achievement in the game, I know someone who has no achievements except this. Just start "Sierra 117" on easy and keep an eye out for a Needler. Pick up any you see and use them right away but don't fire wildly, aim properly and stop firing when you've shot them enough to cause the needle explosion. HEADSHOT HONCHO - 5G Another easy one, start the level "The Covenant" since you start with a sniper. Just take your time aiming and only take headshots. You can also do it on "Tsavo Highway" but why make things harder than they need to be right? But if you insist there is a sniper where the Jiralhanae bring in a Wraith and another one on the giant concrete structure in the same area. There's also a sniper in "Sierra 117" near a crashed Pelican. But just keep it simple and do it in "The Covenant" USED CAR SALESMAN - 5G You get this one for destroying a vehicle with three enemies in it. There's a glitch that lets you get this one if you destroy a Phantom's turret with a dismounted machine gun turret. Start "Crows Nest and when you get to the hanger, use the turret on the left to destroy a Phantoms turret. To do it legitimately, start the mission "The Covenant" and play until you get just past the first Terminal. Once you leave that building, there's a crashed Pelican. Go to it killing everything there and grab the rocket launcher. Two Prowlers will show up loaded with Jiralhanae. But you have to destroy the Prowler AND kill the occupants so try to damage it a bit then fire a rocket at it to finish it off. *** *** ***THE ONLINE RANKED FREE FOR ALL ACHIEVEMENTS*** *** *** These are the achievements that can only be done online. Some are easy but some are really hard. GRADUATE - 10G This is one of the easy ones, you don't even have to be any good at multiplayer to get it. Just play five games to the end or gain 5 EXP Points. UNSC SPARTAN - 15G This ones not hard either, just takes longer since you need 20 EXP Points. Just keep playing games and have some fun, the EXP will come on it's own. SPARTAN OFFICER - 25G This one requires some level of skill. You need to get 70 EXP but also need a skill of 10. I don't have this one so I really can't say much except just play a lot of games and you'll get it eventually. TWO FOR ONE - 5G This is a hard one, I don't have it but the strategy is the same either way. You have to kill two people with a single spartan laser shot in a ranked free for all match. That means Lone Wolves. You could get lucky and find people willing to help you out. Otherwise, this is easiest in a King of the Hill match where everyone is crowded around fighting for the hill. Stay far and shoot at them. TRIPLE KILL - 5G This one requires that you get a triple kill. King of the Hill is a good place for this one also. If you can find a rocket launcher of some other splash damage weapon you can take out many people at once. And don't be liberal about throwing all your grenades. I don't have this one. OVERKILL - 5G Just like the last one except you have to kill four people in four seconds of one another. Same strategy as above also. I don't have this one either. LEE R WILSON MEMORIAL - 5G For this one, you have to stick five people with plasma or spike grenades. To get it, forget about scoring the most kills or even trying to kill anyone without grenades. Find out where the grenades are on your map and always have at least one plasma or spike grenade on you. When you see someone, stick them. If they don't see you, stick them from behind if you can. Otherwise shoot them to get their attention then get up close and stick them. This game is about getting sticks and nothing else, if you come in last place don't worry since all that matters is you got your achievement. KILLING FRENZY - 5G Amazingly I have this one, which is kind of funny when you think about the fact that I don't have the triple kill or overkill. I got this one on the map "Guardian", I got lucky and started the game near the lone shotgun. Within 20 seconds I was leading with 10 kills but got killed myself right after my tenth kill. Any sooner and my achievement would have been lost. So clearly if you can get the shotgun on "Guardian" first, you have a good advantage. But if you can do the same on any map with a good weapon you'll get it. STEPPIN RAZOR - 5G This is exactly like "Triple Kill" except you have to use an energy sword. Unfortunately I don't have this one. But if you can find out where the sword is on each map that has it and find it quick you'll have a good chance of getting this one. The only problem is having enough people close enough. Once again King of the Hill is a good game type for this. MONGOOSE MOWDOWN - 5G This one I do have. I got it on the map Isolation in a King of the Hill match. My time on the hill was 0 seconds. All I did was get a Mongoose and drive around looking for people fighting on the hill and drive right at them. Several minutes and a dozen deaths later I got someone right in the ass. I finished in last place with a time of 0 seconds on the hill but I couldn't care less. That's what your attempts at this one are going to look like. Forget about playing to win and just focus on splattering people. This can work anywhere a Mongoose is available but King of the Hill is best since no one will be paying attention to you since you're not shooting at them, at least until you hit them. UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL - 5G You have to kill five people with a melee for this one. It's not that tough. Just get a good weapon that fires rapidly. Find someone and fire at them, then smack them when you're close enough. Just focus on melees and forget about winning. It's best in small indoors maps since you can't really get sniped in them, it just makes things easier. *** *** ***THE ONLINE RANKED ACHIEVEMENT*** *** *** MVP - 5G This has it's own section for one reason. It isn't a free for all achievement. This is earned by being the MVP (Most Valuable Player) on a team. On Slayer it just means get the most kills. But it can also be other things. The highest time on team king of the hill, most flag captures, most VIP kills, etc. It's not hard to get, just play smart and you'll get it eventually. You'll probably get it around when you first start playing online since you start off playing with people that aren't very good, so don't worry to much about this one. *** *** ***THE ONLINE FREE FOR ALL ACHIEVEMENT*** *** *** MAYBE NEXT TIME BUDDY - 5G This is a hard one. You have to board a vehicle that you were just driving after someone beat you out of it. You can't kill the hijacker though, you have to beat them out of it just like they did to you. The good thing about this is that it doesn't have to be ranked, that's why I made it a different section. So just get a bunch of friends and enter a match and help each other out. Anyone who wants to help me do this is welcome to speak up now, lol. But there are a few ways to do it legit. 1) If you're in a Banshee in the air. Do an upwards barrel roll while being boarded. If you time it right, you'll be flipped upwards when you're thrown out. Then you'll come right back down onto the Banshee and you can board it. 2) Get a Ghost on "Snowbound". Drive it into the underground area where the shotgun is and wait for someone to try hijacking it. Since there isn't much room you can board it before the hijacker gets away. 3) For wide open spaces, shoot an overcharged plasma pistol at the vehicle. This stuns the vehicles electronics and lets you board it while it can't move. *** *** ***THE META GAME ACHIEVEMENTS*** *** *** For some reason most people say that you have to play on heroic or legendary to get these achievements. I'll tell you right now that that's complete BS. I have all the meta game achievements and I only did two of them on heroic. I did the seven others on normal. ***GUERILLA - 10G*** You get this achievement for scoring over 15000 points in the meta game on the level "Sierra 117". I did this one on normal with these skulls activated: - Tough Luck: enemies dodge your grenades, splatter attempts, and needles, 1.5x multiplier - Catch: all A.I. throw tons of grenades, 1.5x multiplier - Famine: weapons have half ammo, 2x multiplier TOTAL MULTIPLIER: 5x + TIME BONUS Since you only need 15000 points in total, getting 3000 without a time bonus will get you this achievement. But since this is on normal difficulty you're pretty much guaranteed to get at least a 2x time bonus so your really only aiming to get 1500 points before multipliers. So it's pretty clear that you can easily do this on normal difficulty. So next time someone tells you it can't be done, slap them, hard. Since this in on normal, you don't really need any strategies since you can basically run and gun without being scared of getting shot. But remember that your enemies and allies throw tons of grenades, so don't run right into the thick of things or you'll get stuck by a plasma/spike grenade or a friendly fragmentation grenade. Just stay far back enough to see any incoming grenades but close enough to kill effectively. The UNSC battle rifle is your best friend from now on. Save any carbines you find for the Jiralhanae Chieftains so they don't use Invincibility to overwhelm you. Every time you find a sniper, brute shot, rocket launcher, fuel rod gun, shotgun, or any other heavy weapon use it right away. You might not really care but the faster you kill things, the less points you lose to the Arbiter and fellow marines and the higher your time bonus. Never give up anything that can make this faster or easier. When you get to where two Pelican Transports go down, grab the machine gun turret that falls from one of the Pelicans. It'll increase you're score really fast. After you get through sniper alley you'll find a crashed Pelican, grab the sniper rifle from it and use it on the Jiralhanae by the water at the end of the level. Use either the sniper or a carbine on the Chieftain. ***DEMON - 10G*** You get this achievement for scoring over 15000 points in the meta game on the level "Crows Nest". Once again, do it on normal with these skulls on: - Tough Luck: enemies dodge your grenades, splatter attempts, and needles, 1.5x multiplier - Catch: all A.I. throw tons of grenades, 1.5x multiplier - Famine: weapons have half ammo, 2x multiplier TOTAL MULTIPLIER: 5x + TIME BONUS Start of with a battle rifle and an assault rifle. Use the assault rifle on the road where the Warthog gets blown up so you can save the battle rifle for when you really need it. When you kill the Kig-yar in the next hallway, swap the assault rifle for their carbines but don't use them yet, keep them for the Jiralhanae Chieftain later on. When you go into the hangar, kill the Covenant there and take up a position at the machine gun turret on the left. The reason to use the left one is because the incoming Covenant Phantoms shoot at the one on the right, even on normal that's deadly. Shoot the phantom turrets to save your fellow marines and just hold down the trigger and kill anything that moves near the Phantoms. When you leave the hangar, take the turret with you to use it on the Drones on your way back to the Ops Center. When you get to the Jiralhanae, check your weapons before going through the locked doors. If you have any battle rifle ammo left, keep it. You should also still have a carbine with some ammo in it. Keep the turret if you have any ammo left. If your battle rifle is empty, swap out for a shotgun. When you get to the Ops Center to reactivate the bomb, take the fuel rod gun from the dead Jiralhanae. When you leave the Ops Center and see a swarm of Drones flying by, fire a fuel rod shot at them killing most of them and getting tons of points. ***CAVALIER - 10G*** You get this achievement for scoring over 15000 points in the meta game on the level "Tsavo Highway". Normal difficulty with the same skulls as last time: - Tough Luck: enemies dodge your grenades, splatter attempts, and needles, 1.5x multiplier - Catch: all A.I. throw tons of grenades, 1.5x multiplier - Famine: weapons have half ammo, 2x multiplier TOTAL MULTIPLIER: 5x + TIME BONUS Start of by going to the room with the Warthogs and activating the open door switch. Drive the Warthog with the LAAG (Light Anti Air Gun) because any kills your gunner gets get you points. So just keep the gunner and the Warthog alive and you'll be fine. Eventually you gotta ditch the Warthog, there's a machine gun turret in one of the buildings where the Jiralhanae are attacking. There's also a sniper there and on the giant concrete building near where the highway ends on your way into the area. When the Wraith comes, snipe the gunner and hijack it. From here on the points will rain down, just keep the Wraith intact and kill everything. ***ASKAR - 10G*** You get this achievement for scoring over 15000 points in the meta game on the level "The Storm". Same as last time: - Tough Luck: enemies dodge your grenades, splatter attempts, and needles, 1.5x multiplier - Catch: all A.I. throw tons of grenades, 1.5x multiplier - Famine: weapons have half ammo, 2x multiplier TOTAL MULTIPLIER: 5x + TIME BONUS At the start of the level, go inside the building and open the first door. Take gunner seat and wipe everything out. Then open the second door and wipe everything out. From here take a Ghost and first kill the Covenant on the upper levels of this area. Then take out the vehicles below. Take the ghost into the next building and use it to kill everything inside. Get off and kill everything upstairs. Then get back on the Ghost and move killing everything in your way. In this next area boost all the way to the first AA Wraith, get off the Ghost, and jump onto the back of the Wraith to destroy it. Do the same for the next AA Wraith. Then take out the rest of the vehicles. Take out any leftover Covenant infantry and go to the raised platform and mount the missile pod turret. Use it to destroy any Ghosts that get dropped off by Phantoms while they're still far away and you can lock onto them. Then when the Scarab shows up, hit it with the pod turret until it crouches. Then take the elevator up and board the Scarab and destroy it. Tear a missile turret of its mount and take it with you from here. Save it for one hit kills on the Mgalekgolo's and the Jiralhanae Chieftain. When you get to the machine gun turret, shoot from far until you don't see anything moving. Tear it off and take it with you. Use it and the plasma turret up ahead to kill everything. Then use the dead Jiralhanae's Fuel Rod Gun to destroy the AA Battery. ***EXTERMINATOR - 10G*** You get this achievement for scoring over 15000 points in the meta game on the level "Floodgate". This time we're going to use more skulls. The Thunderstorm skull promotes enemies to their next rank, but it has no noticeable affect on the Flood so it's just free points. You'll face more shielded Flood but that's nothing worth noting: - Tough Luck: enemies dodge your grenades, splatter attempts, and needles, 1.5x multiplier - Catch: all A.I. throw tons of grenades, 1.5x multiplier - Famine: weapons have half ammo, 2x multiplier - Thunderstorm: enemies are promoted a rank, 1.5x TOTAL MULTIPLIER: 6.5x + TIME BONUS As you can see, we're getting a 6.5x multiplier on this one, so to get 15000 points we're really only getting about 2300. And since you're pretty much guaranteed to be getting a 2x time multiplier your really only shooting for about 1150 points before any multipliers are added. That's ridiculously easy so you won't have a hard time here at all. This is an easy mission. Use shotguns, energy swords, and anything that dual wields or zooms like a carbine or battle rifle. Use the assault rifle early on so you can swap it out for something better, the shotgun. You'll find a flamethrower inside a building on an elevated walkway, make good use of it. You'll also find a machine gun turret, use that also. When you face the pure tank forms, shoot them in the head ONLY. you'll notice the target reticle will only turn red when you aim at their heads. That should tell you that it's the only way to kill them. If a pure stalker form comes at you, melee it, don't waste bullets or plasma. This is the easiest meta game mission in the game so you really can't screw up. ***RANGER - 10G*** You get this achievement for scoring over 50000 points in the meta game on the level "The Ark". This might sound like a lot of points but since you get a tank and fight tons of vehicles it's pretty easy. - Tough Luck: enemies dodge your grenades, splatter attempts, and needles, 1.5x multiplier - Catch: all A.I. throw tons of grenades, 1.5x multiplier - Famine: weapons have half ammo, 2x multiplier TOTAL MULTIPLIER: 5x + TIME BONUS At the start score as many head shots as possible but don't try too hard since it won't help as much as being quick. When the hunters show up, just overwhelm them with plasma from the turrets from the previous valley. Then grab all the brute shots and some long range ammo. In the next area, a Chopper will park and let some Jiralhanae out. Let them get out and then open fire. Jump in the Chopper turret and take out the other one. Grab some Rockets from the Pelican wreckage. Drive the Chopper and let the marines do the shooting and give you points for their work. Swap for a Warthog when you find one. Take the sniper and kill enemies from far, then go in with the Warthog. use the Warthog until you get a tank. Then drive the tank and take out everything, including the Phantom. Then when you get through the building to the area where the Scarab is, take gunner in the waiting Warthog and take out the Ghosts. then grab a Scorpion and kill everything. Take out the Scarab and then shoot the building that Covenant are coming from. Drive up the slope in the tank and shoot the Jiralhanae to your right and Kig-yar to your left. Then fire up the ramps at anything that turns your reticle red. Ditch the tank and go up. Kill everything in the building using all the best weapons you find and shooting the plasma batteries to kill Covenant in the splash damage. Grab a carbine at some point and use it to kill the Jiralhanae Chieftain at the end of the level. Then take care of the rest of them. ***VANGAURD - 10G*** You get this achievement for scoring over 50000 points in the meta game on the level "The Covenant". This one has a high point requirement but like the last one, there are tons of vehicles to destroy so it's easy. Same skulls as last time: - Tough Luck: enemies dodge your grenades, splatter attempts, and needles, 1.5x multiplier - Catch: all A.I. throw tons of grenades, 1.5x multiplier - Famine: weapons have half ammo, 2x multiplier TOTAL MULTIPLIER: 5x + TIME BONUS When you start, go to the right and kill the three Unggoy there before they surprise you. Then use the spartan laser to take out the Shade turrets. Take out everything else with your battle rifle and melee the AA Wraith to destroy it. Save the spartan laser for later on. Grab the dead Jiralhanae Chieftain's fuel rod gun and save it along with the spartan laser. When a Warthog is delivered, take driver seat and let your fellow marines do your work for you. When you get to the valley with Wraith, just avoid getting hit and keep your gunner alive. Then let your shields recharge and rush into the opening in the tower to take out a dozen or more Covenant all at once with the front end or your Warthog. Save the fuel rod gun for the Mgalekgolo in the last tower so you can swap it now and pick it up later on. Fight your way up the elevator and use the spartan laser on the hammer wielding Chieftain from far away. Then move in and take out the rest from up close. If you have any charge left in the spartan laser, keep it for the plasma turret wielding Chieftain in the next tower. Grab the fuel rod from wherever you swapped it earlier and continue to the beach. Grab a Hornet and take out every single Banshee, the Phantom, the enemies on the island in the water, and all the enemies on the last tower. use the Hornet to kill the Jiralhanae guarding the tower instead of fighting them on the ground. One should have a fuel rod gun so pick up his ammo. When the Mgalekgolo show up fire single fuel rod shot at each to kill them instantly. Then use the spartan laser to kill the Chieftain upstairs. Activate the switch and use the plasma turret on the Flood. Go outside and grab the tank and kill everything. When you get to the Scarabs, take a Hornet and destroy the Ghosts and Banshees in the area. Then take out the Scarab. This gets you more points and since it's on normal there's really no risk. When you go to stop the Prophet from firing the rings, use the little structures as cover and keep moving but don't be let the Flood do all the work and steal your points. On the way out, kill all the Flood to get as many points as possible. ***ORPHEUS - 10G*** You get this achievement for scoring over 15000 points in the meta game on the level "Cortana". This is the hardest level in the game but we're playing on normal so it's nothing to worry about. We're going to be using the Thunderstorm skull on this on because it affects the Flood very little: - Tough Luck: enemies dodge your grenades, splatter attempts, and needles, 1.5x multiplier - Catch: all A.I. throw tons of grenades, 1.5x multiplier - Famine: weapons have half ammo, 2x multiplier - Thunderstorm: enemies are promoted a rank, 1.5x TOTAL MULTIPLIER: 6.5x + TIME BONUS Last time we used 4 skulls I said were only shooting for about 1150 points before multipliers. Not this time. Now your shooting for about 2300 points before multipliers. The reason for this is that you might end up with a 1x time bonus. Don't worry, you'll get way more points than that so you can take your time. When you start off, grab the flamethrower from the crashed Pelican. A combat form in that area also has an energy sword, grab that as well. Also grab any carbines you find. Use the flamethrower until it's done because eventually you'll come to a hallway to your right that you use near the end of the level to escape through a maintenance tunnel. There's another flamethrower there, use it also. This level really has no hard parts so just use the Flamethrowers until they're done and then use energy swords, carbines, brute shots, any dual wield weapons, and gravity hammers. ***RECLAIMER - 10G*** You get this achievement for scoring over 15000 points in the meta game on the level "Halo". Since you really only fighting the Flood on this level, we'll use four skulls again: - Tough Luck: enemies dodge your grenades, splatter attempts, and needles, 1.5x multiplier - Catch: all A.I. throw tons of grenades, 1.5x multiplier - Famine: weapons have half ammo, 2x multiplier - Thunderstorm: enemies are promoted a rank, 1.5x TOTAL MULTIPLIER: 6.5x + TIME BONUS When you start off, grab a shotgun from the crashed Pelican. Your second weapon is up to you. The rockets kill quick but they run out fast and the Flood will dodge them. A battle rifle is good long range but it has less ammo than the assault rifle. The assault rifle has tons of ammo and is good close up, but that's how most flood fight anyways so that might be your best option. The first thing to do is kill the Flood with the gravity hammer, then just kill anything that gets too close to you. Work your way up to the control room. Whenever a new wave of Flood drops down, kill the ones behind you first to clear a retreat path. Just keep fighting until you get inside the control room, and if you use the two auto turrets at the control room door destroy them before going in. The reason for this is that once you kill 343 Guilty Spark, the turrets will attack you and they pack a serious punch. When you're fighting Spark, don't waste your gun ammo. Wait for Johnson to attack Spark then quickly grab the spartan laser. Then kill Spark with that. On your way out, get a dual wield and kill everything yourself. Don't let the Flood and the Sentinels kill themselves because your just giving up good points. When you get to the place where there are those carrier forms, kill them and most of the infection forms but don't waste time killing them all since they aren't worth any points. Once in the Warthog, place taking the right path over going fast. A couple seconds aren't worth dying. And run over some Flood while you're at it but not the carrier forms since they flip the Warthog when the blow up. Just remember that there's no time limit, you can take it slow if you have to. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * 4 - YouTube Videos * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * SKULLs - IRON - http://youtube.com/watch?v=EtQL-cVGddI - BLACK EYE - http://youtube.com/watch?v=we2g3kF9KCY&feature=related - TOUGH LUCK - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2U1lcpnyyE - CATCH (Warthog Jump) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19OwRaiXLnc&NR=1 - CATCH (Ghost on Warthog) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mbXdRiIZLM - CATCH (Grenade Jump) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdmawJhMAWY - FOG - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXsfjhIlPWw&feature=related - FAMINE (Grenade Jump) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYonzM2n9C8 - FAMINE (Deployable Cover) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfTndyNneRQ - THUNDERSTORM - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVHygDpkJQM - TILT - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-sZmiGSbJE&NR=1 - MYTHIC - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXrEioY80h4 TERMINALS - The Ark - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZsBzikt8tg - The Covenant - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRE1MT7FpO8&NR=1 - Halo - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Vs_Ncf7_p8&NR=1 * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * 5 - VERSION HISTORY * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * V1.0 - Original Release - Basic information on all achievements and methods to get them Started: 01/02/2008 Finished: 03/02/2008 * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * 6 - FUTURE UPDATES * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * v1.1 - Add links for Youtube videos showing methods mentioned in this guide - Any new methods I find or any fixes anyone reading this mentions I'm also going to make a Microsoft Word version with some proper formatting and pictures.
