At times, this effect has been so great as to turn the tide of history. From Leonardo da Vinci to present, the long- range rifleman has had a telling effect on the direction, drive and scope of battle. By his discriminatory nature, he has felled the command structure of his enemies, rendered their equipment useless and driven fear into the hearts of their fighting men. The sniper is one of the most effective weapons on the field of battle. He is frugal, and precise. He is not a superman, capable of incredible feats, but he is skilled in ways that many misunderstand. SNIPE: Any of various long-billed shore birds of the genus Gallinago or Capella. A sniper was original someone who hunted snipe. A snipe isn't a particularly meaty bird, or a good-tasting one at that. Its uniqueness is in that of its ability to escape hunters. It's considered one of the hardest small-prey to hit. So called "snipers" originally hunted the bird for practice, for bigger game. Eventually, many a hunter targeted the bird for honor and bragging rights, and this lead to sniping tournaments. The definition of "Sniper" has changed a lot since then, but still based on the same idea of stalking and scouting, while the achieving your ultimate goal of taking out your target (mostly from a concealed location, long range). Sniping controls: Hold x to grab a sniper rifle or beam rifle off of the ground The left thumbstick controls forward and backward movement, (up and down) it also controls sidestep (left and right) Press in the left thumbstick to crouch Press the right thumbstick in to zoom in 5x press it again to zoom 10x press it a third time to zoom out Squeeze (not pull) the right trigger to fire a single shot. Press the x button to reload when ammo clip is not full (Human sniper only) Up to four shots can be fires in the Human "Sniper Rifle" before reloading The Covenant "Beam Rifle" needs not to be reloaded but is prone to overheating ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Here are some game tips on sniping 1: Take you're time and don't be hasty, wait for the perfect shot, don't go alarming the enemy or wasting ammo on missed shots 2: Follow the enemy, place you're cursor on the enemies head if they are mobile follow the target for a half second or so and keep the reticule red to make sure you have a decent shot. 3: Work on reaction time, if the first shot does not drop them, fire a second very quickly, make sure that the enemy is not dead though, don't waste bullets on dead targets. 4: Take Cover; make sure if you're shot at that you have somewhere to take cover. Try to stick close to large rocks or buildings. 5: Watch out for those watching you, if you see an enemy sniper you must know how to react in in of two ways, If He/She Is not looking in you're direction and is not moving, take you're time go for the head and don't waste ammo. If they are watching you watch them closely, don't stop moving (sidestep jump crouch ext.) and start heading toward some type of cover, aim for the torso (it will be easier to hit while moving) even if you're haven't reached cover and fire two quick shots. If you aimed correctly they should be dead, If not the now probably know where you are (If they already didn't) 6: Use the lower magnification; it is more effective for medium to medium-long range combat and for multiple targets. It allows you to see more and is much easier to aim. 7: Don't poke you're head out, if you know someone is watching, look for an alternate exit, if this does not exist exit quickly while jumping and aim/shoot the enemy. (See step 5) 8: Don't waste ammo, on anything but a legitimate target. 9: Carry a decent sidearm, like a battle rifle or shotgun. 10: Rely on skill not luck, sure, a no scope from close range can be exhilarating, but try to utilize you're secondary weapon or the butt of the rifle for close range. 11: Know the good spots, not just for your own benefit, watch these spots for enemy snipers. 12: Know the locations for the extra ammo, like the rocks outside of the base in coagulation and waterworks. 13: If you're opponent is hiding and only a small limb is visible (arm, leg, or even a foot) fire two quick shots into the exposed part. It will dispose of the enemy 14: Move Around, even if you want to stay in one place as long as you don't become an easy target 15: Don't wear bright armor; go for a darker or camouflaged armor. (I use blue it is good for waterworks and headlong) if you play coagulation a lot try using orange or green. 16: Use vehicles carefully, sure a ghost will get you to you're destination more quickly but a parked undamaged vehicle located near a snipe point is a sure sign of you guessed it a sniper. Destroy any vehicle you're finished with. 17: Watch out for the obvious snipe points. You're enemy is expecting that you use them. Use more abstract locations. Get creative. 18: Prioritize, aim for the threats first. Take out enemy snipers, then rockets, the backup and then go for the flag carrier (he cant shoot while holding the flag). However if the flag is close to scoring the carrier needs to become priority #1 19: Be aware, that any location that you can effectively snipe from, you can be effectively sniped from. 20: Know which rifle you prefer, covie or human. The beam rifle never reloads and you usually get two quick shots before overheating. The human sniper rifle has four bullets before having to reload; you also know exactly how many shots you have. 21: Watch you're radar, at all times. Make sure no one is sneaking up behind you or if there are feasible targets walking unsuspectingly beside you 22: Practice, the only true way to become a better sniper is practice, play custom games on XBL or snipe in campaign mode. The more you practice the better you will get 23: Try for one hit kills. This prevents the enemy from seeing the viper tail (the trail behind the bullet) 24: Watch out for you're muzzle flash as well. It is a beacon that says "look a sniper over here" 25: Take time between kills, make them think they are safe make sure there guard is down. 26: If you are headed towards an elusive spot like the top of a level or the piston on waterworks take two rifles or a sniper and battle rifle. 27: Use the perimeter as a sniping spot; the edges of a level are very elusive 28: Don't use extremely high look sensitivity. I Prefer 4 but anything below three is too sluggish and anything over 7 is too touchy ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Here are some basic sniping spots on certain levels Lockout- 1) The platform that the teleporter leads to.
