If I were to compare it to other first-person shooters, I would say that it is a unique combination of Unreal Championship, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead, and Mirror's Edge. If you are looking for a competitive first-person shooter that isn't just another Call of Duty clone, then Brink should provide you with hours of fun. This document is a walkthrough guide to beating both the Security and Resistance single player campaigns on Normal difficulty; it is equally applicable to all the major release versions of the game, which include the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC versions. In this guide I will provide you with overall strategy and specific tactics and tips that you need to beat each mission. The primary objectives in each mission present different scenarios and situations, with varying degrees of difficulty for each. As the only human player in the game, playing through the single player campaigns requires you to go above and beyond what you would normally contribute to a team. At the very minimum, you must be able to play slightly better on average than the computer-controlled players; victory in each mission depends on it. If you can't play better than the computer-controlled players, you do have the option to play smarter. That's what this guide gives you, an option to play smarter. Otherwise, you will just end up playing missions over and over again until you get lucky with circumstances. Also included with this guide are links to video guides of each mission (all video guides were made by me), which will help you to visually connect with the information in this written guide. A good way to make the most out of this written guide and the video guides is to have one browser tab open for the written guide and another browser tab open for the selected video guide. Doing that will allow you to keep the written guide open and then copy and paste the link to the video guide in the second browser tab. If you happen to use two monitors with your computer, you can also have two browser windows open on each monitor, which will allow you to view both the written guide and the video guide at the same time. Technology is great isn't it? Thank you for checking this guide out and I hope that it helps you. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [STO!] Story Introduction ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The game is set a few decades in the future when rising sea levels have engulfed an unknown amount of dry land mass in countries across the world. Previous to this happening was an expenditure that created a self-sustaining colony on a floating island out in the middle of the ocean. As the sea level rises, refugees have scattered out into the ocean to find the floating island known as the Ark. The Ark's location in the ocean is unknown (presumably because it can move, since it floats). Despite this, there were plenty of lucky refugees that managed to find the Ark and take residence there. Citizens of the Ark employed the refugees as maintenance workers and other low-skilled (and sometimes dangerous) jobs. Tensions have grown on the Ark. The refugees do not appreciate their continued status as second-class citizens; the Ark citizens have full access to the Ark's resources while the refugees are only offered rationed resources. The refugees have become disgruntled and want to use the Ark to make contact with the mainland (or what's left of it). The Ark citizens want to maintain control of their own island and defend their interests. These two factions are on their way to a major conflict if they can't resolve the situation peacefully. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [SET!] Campaign Character Setup ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Throughout each of these campaigns, there are two things that are always constant for the character I am using: the body type and the class selection. I will always be the Medium body type and I will always be the Soldier class. The Medium body type is the average Mario-style selection of the three body types. In my opinion, I feel that it is the best choice for several reasons. The first is balance between health and speed. The Light body type is very quick, but can't take much damage. The Heavy body type is the opposite, which is a slow moving speed but a hearty health meter. The Medium body type is the reliable in-between that is highly versatile and suitable for most any situation. It allows you to stay in hectic firefights while at the same time giving you the speed to get to objectives. Don't get me wrong; the Light and Heavy body types have their uses, but for the purposes of beating the single player campaigns, the Medium body type is your best bet. The Soldier class is the most warrior-like of the four class selections. It gives you access to some very important abilities, which include but are not limited to: the Molotov Cocktail, the Ammunition Resupply, the Demolition Charge, and several others that can be unlocked through the ability menu. For the single player campaign, being the Soldier class is important for many reasons, but the primary reason is that you are the only human player on your team. As such, you can't rely on your team members to effectively control the flow of battle; you have to control the engagement for your team and orchestrate the victory. A good example of what I am talking about is the completion of primary mission objectives. You don't want to be the one busting open that safe, as you stand there helplessly and hoping that your computer-controlled team members will effectively cover your back. Instead, you want to be the one covering their back while they complete the primary objectives. Doing it this way will allow you to ensure that no enemy combatants interrupt the completion of objectives. You will know if you are doing a good job in this role if you always get the "Most Kills" award at the end of each mission. As far as weapon choices go, I always use an assault rifle as my primary weapon and an SMG as my secondary weapon. This has proven to be a versatile setup that is good for most any situation. The only time I have changed to another loadout is for one particular mission in the Resistance campaign, which is mentioned in the guide. You might wonder which assault rifle or SMG you should choose to use and which are the best and worst. For the single player campaigns, it really comes down to your personal preferences more than anything. Just try each weapon out and use the ones you like the best. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [SCam] Security Campaign ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Sec1] Mission 1: Hostage Rescue ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Primary Objective: 1. Destroy Door (Soldier) 2. Escort the Hostage Secondary Objectives: 1. Capture the Health Command Post 2. Capture the Supply Command Post Non-Soldier Objectives: 1. Escort Primary Objective Class Ally (Soldier) 2. Repair Lift Generator 3. Construct the Atrium MG Nest 4. Construct the Ramp MG Nest 5. Construct the Lobby MG Nest -=- The Opening Route Right as you start the mission, head up the far left side of the level and go straight for the Health Command Post. Capturing this as soon as possible will give your team an edge over the competition that will allow them to gain ground in the battles to come. -=- The Opening Chokepoint Immediately after you first capture the Health Command Post, move forward and to the right until you come to a hallway that acts as an excellent chokepoint. In front of this chokepoint are some stairs and a guardrail. The guardrail can be used as cover for the bottom half of your body and the stairs make a good place to retreat down if you need to reload or cook a grenade. The chokepoint in front of you will produce a steady stream of enemy combatants, all of which are easy to place in your sights because of how narrow the chokepoint is. If the enemies become bunched up together in a cluster, throw a grenade and Molotov cocktail at them to punish the tight formation. -=- The Supply Command Post Once the chokepoint mentioned above is cleared out, you can proceed to run down it and head through the door on the right. This will lead you to the Supply Command Post and allow you to capture it. Capturing both it and the Health Command Post will put your team at a significant advantage, and it is around this time that the primary objective should be completed and the next part of the mission begins. -=- The Hostage The hostage will only move forward if you or your team members are near him, so make sure you stay in his general area if you want to make any progress. If the enemy manages to deplete the hostage's health completely, the hostage will become incapacitated and will need a Medic to revive him. A good rule of thumb when escorting the hostage is to concentrate more on finding good defensive positions and cover rather than trying to directly defend the hostage out in the open. In situations where you need to escort something in Brink, it is a better strategy to first protect your team and second to protect the escorted; protecting the escorted first and your team second will only create a situation that is liable to fall apart and quickly turn chaotic. -=- The Dining Room Starting out the second half of the mission, the dining room (or dining hall, or whatever you want to call it) is where the first major engagement will begin. A good spot to set yourself up in is the back-right corner of the room, inside the dining booth. This provides cover to the bottom half of your body, and also allows you to crouch down if you need even more cover. From this spot you should use your assault rifle to kill enemies as they reveal themselves (it is kind of like playing whack-a-mole). -=- Time to Flank Once the hostage hobbles over to about the halfway point of the dining room, it becomes much harder for him to make any progress; at this point he will probably be right next to the enemy positions, which makes it much more difficult for him not to be incapacitated (as well as for Medics to revive him). Instead of messing around any further with that predicament, retreat back past the entrance that the hostage originally entered the dining room from. From there, head around the perimeter wall of the dining room on the right side. Eventually you will see a large rampway room on the right and another door to the dining room on the left. From this position, you can easily flank the enemy team as they are concentrating on the former position you were in (and where your team still should be). -=- The Dining Room's Back Chokepoint After flanking the enemy from the position mentioned above, you can move into the dining room and turn your attention to the back-right; this is the back entrance to the dining room where the enemy has been streaming in from. There is another dining booth that you can take cover behind, so use it to create a defensive position that prevents the enemy from getting through the dining room's back entrance. -=- Divided Attention Eventually the hostage will make his way to the large rampway room and start climbing the ramp. As he slowly performs each of these tasks, your teams position becomes vulnerable because it is now open to enemy attack from two directions. The first and most obvious direction they will attack from is the large ramp room. The second direction they will attack from is the back entrance of the dining room, which they can use to flank you and catch you off guard if you concentrate too much on the ramp room. -=- Focused Attention Once the hostage gets far enough up the ramp, the enemy will stop launching major attacks from the back dining room entrance. Once this happens, you can fully move into the ramp room and fully focus all attention inside. Your team members will go up the ramp with the hostage, so you should focus on clearing out any enemies on the ground level. Once the ground level is cleared out, you can head to the back of the ramp room and head up the stairs. These stairs lead to the top level (which is where the long ramp leads to) and can be used as an excellent position to flank the enemy from. -=- Welcome to the Ark The "Welcome to the Ark" room (otherwise known as the lobby) is the next major battle area. Once the hostage moves through this room, you will need to pin the enemy team down here and prevent them from making any progress past this room. There are several walls and benches with plants on top of them which can all be used as good cover. This cover also gives you plenty of room to weave in and out of to flank enemies as they enter the room. === Mission 1: Hostage Rescue Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5128470 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Sec2] Mission 2: Smash & Grab ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Primary Objectives: 1. Escort Primary Objective Class Ally (Operative) 2. Escort Primary Objective Class Ally (Engineer) 3. Deliver Datakey Secondary Objectives: 1. Capture the Health Command Post 2. Capture the Supply Command Post Non-Soldier Objectives: 1. Hack the Mainframe (Operative) 2. Crack the Safe (Engineer) 2. Construct the Atrium MG Nest -=- Hacking the Mainframe The room that this primary objective sits in is a small, enclosed room with bulletproof glass walls. This room is inside an even bigger room that has three entrances for the Security team to enter through: a front entrance, a back entrance (that has a Health Command Post), and a top entrance. Most of the major battles will take place around the front entrance, as that is where your team members tend to enter through most often. -=- The Health Command Post & the Back Entrance Right away you will want to avoid the front entrance as much as possible, because fighting there will usually lead to dead end situations with both sides reaching a stalemate (or alternatively a fleeting victory). Instead of going through the front entrance, take the back entrance. The back entrance is important for two reasons: 1. the Health Command Post is there, so you can capture/use it every time you pass by and 2. the back entrance allows you to effectively support your allies by flanking the enemy from behind. The back entrance doorway also makes for a nice spot to shoot at enemies with the assault rifle at long range in the main objective room. -=- Wearing Them Down By defending the Health Command Post and using the back entrance as a location to launch attacks from, you should be slowly but surely wearing down the enemy team to the point that your allied team members are beginning to establish a strong presence near the objective. Once this happens, your team members can comfortably take the primary objective and move on to the next part of the mission. === Mission 2, Part 1: Smash & Grab Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5128971 -=- Guarding the Safe The room that the safe sits in is a large open area with two sets of stairs near the two lower entrances. Where the two sets of stairs meet is a hallway that leads to the Supply Command Post. To defend the primary objective, you have two effective options. The first is to hang around the objective room near the stairs and keep an eye on all of the entrances. Depending on which entrance the enemy comes from, you can use the stairs to quickly move to the other side of the room and flank the enemy from behind. For example, if the enemy comes from the left entrance and you are near the right set of stairs, you can quickly sprint across the two sets of stairs and attack the enemy from behind as they move further into the room. The second option is to patrol the large room that is in front of the Supply Command Post. Many enemies pass through this room as they make their way to the main objective room. As they do this, you can ambush them, kill them, and keep them occupied long enough for your allies in the objective room to make progress on the safe. === Mission 2, Part 2: Smash & Grab Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5129713 -=- The Data Key After the safe is opened, the data key becomes available (as well as the drop- off location for it). Your best opportunity for completing the objective quickly is right when the safe is opened and the data key is grabbed; the reason for this is because your team should already be in a position of strength since they were able to protect the safe room enough to open the safe successfully. Follow behind whoever ends up grabbing the data key and concentrate on killing enemies directly ahead of the data key's path (while still behind the carrier). You need to be behind the carrier because you want the enemy to shoot at the carrier first; doing it this way ensures that you will not be on the receiving end of a surprise ambush (and death) and also ensures that you can quickly react to any threats in the area. If you can't complete the data key objective on the first try, then you will probably be in for a longer fight to finish the mission. If the first data key run fails, this then gives the enemy team another chance to create a strong defense back in the safe room. Any further attempts at making a data key run should probably be made by you instead of a computer-controlled team member; this will allow you to choose a more cautious and out-of-the-way path towards the drop-off point. === Mission 2, Part 3: Smash & Grab Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5129815 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Sec3] Mission 3: Dirty Bomb ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Primary Objectives: 1. Destroy the Gate (Soldier) 2. Escort Maintenance Bot 3. Escort Primary Objective Class Ally (Engineer) 4. Deliver Sample Secondary Objectives: 1. Destroy Market Barricade 2. Capture the Health Command Post 3. Capture the Supply Command Post Non-Soldier Objectives: 1. Escort Primary Objective Class Ally (Soldier) 2. Repair the Crane (Engineer) 3. Hack the Side Door 4. Construct Side Stairs 5. Construct the Gate MG Nest 6. Construct the Ship MG Nest 7. Construct the Crane MG Nest -=- Blowing Up the Front Gate The mission starts out with your team tasked with destroying the large front gate. This objective is fairly easy to do, because the enemy team do not put up any kind of coordinated fight against you. All you have to do is shoot any enemies that slide through the front of the gate, then proceed to shoot enemies through the large holes in the gate with your assault rifle. Once the area has been cleared out, you can safely plant an explosive charge on the gate (if one of your team members hasn't done it already). === Mission 3, Part 1: Dirty Bomb Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5129976 -=- Escorting the Bot Escorting the maintenance bot is very similar to escorting the hostage in mission 1; there are two key differences though. First, engineers have to repair the bot if it takes too much damage. Second, the bot is big enough that you can use it for cover. The best way to escort the bot through the slums is to stay behind it rather than in front of it. Doing this will not only allow you to take cover behind the bot, but will also ensure that you aren't the first thing targeted by the enemy team. You will want to have your assault rifle out while following the bot so that you can pick enemies off at a distance. Keep a look out for large clumps of enemies, as you can lob a grenade or Molotov cocktail at them. Eventually the bot will reach a point where the enemy no longer attacks in front of the bot's path and will instead begin to attack from behind. When this starts to happen, you can turn around to set up a defensive position against the enemy and stop following the bot. Just make sure you hold this position, because if you lose it then you will be faced with a bad situation of the enemy team being between you and the bot. === Mission 3, Part 2: Dirty Bomb Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5130100 -=- Repairing the Crane In the middle of escorting the bot, engineers will need to repair a crane. This is an easy objective that should finish quickly if you've protected your team effectively up to this point. -=- Escorting the Bot Part 2 The next part of the escort objective is a less straightforward than the earlier part of the mission, simply because the enemy has more opportunities to attack you from multiple directions. You will still be hugging the bot and using it for cover as you pick off enemies with an assault rifle, but be prepared to pull out your SMG if the enemy gets too close. -=- Respawning & Quickly Recovering Ground If the enemy team manages to wipe out your entire team near the bot, you can expect them to be pushing up to the area in front of your team's respawn point. Getting pushed back that far will waste valuable time on the mission timer, so you will need to clear the enemy out quickly. A good spot to do this from is right outside the respawn point: if you head to the right and up, you'll find a platform that overlooks the entire area in front of the respawn point (including the railway in front of the respawn base as well as the area beyond the railway). From this perch, you can easily look down on enemy combatants and shoot them one by one without much fear of being shot at (and if they do shoot back, you can just crouch down). === Mission 3, Part 3: Dirty Bomb Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5130349 -=- Taking the Sample This is just like the Datakey from Mission 2. One of your team members needs to grab it and take it back to the drop-off point. -=- Order of Operations There are three things you need to do every time you respawn during this part of the mission. The first is to always plant an explosive charge at the market barricade as you pass by the spot. If there is no barricade, then ignore it and head to the right. The second is to always check the Supply Command Post and capture it if necessary. The Supply Command Post is in a spot that your team can easily control, so make sure it stays in your possession. The third is to set up a defensive position on the raised platform just beyond the Supply Command Post. On this raised platform is a large shipping container that provides good cover to retreat behind. This also happens to be the area where the main objective is, which is the sample. On the left side of the shipping container, you can shoot down on enemies that try to move towards the adjacent doorway (the market barricade doorway). Directly across from the left side of the shipping container is another raised area that the enemy sometimes travels through. On the right side of the shipping container is, among other things, a lower area that contains the sample. From the right side of the shipping container, you can effectively cover any allies attempting to capture the sample. -=- Protecting the Sample Carrier Once one of your allies grabs the sample, they will head through the market barricade doorway. Right after the carrier does this, you want to immediately block off all access to that doorway; kill any enemies that try to follow the carrier through that doorway. After doing that, head through the market barricade doorway and make your way to the carrier's location (which is highlighted with a yellow outline). As you do this, kill or delay enemies you meet along the way, because they are going to be moving towards the sample carrier. Eventually, you will catch up with the sample carrier. At this point the sample carrier should be getting fairly close to the drop-off area, so you need to help your team establish a defensive perimeter around the carrier. === Mission 3, Part 4: Dirty Bomb Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5130490 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Sec4] Mission 4: Prison Break ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Primary Objectives: 1. Defend the Conduit 2. Defend the Safe 3. Defend the Pass Code 4. Stop the Prisoner Secondary Objectives: 1. Capture the Health Command Post 2. Capture the Supply Command Post Non-Soldier Objectives: 1. Construct the Guardhouse MG Nest 2. Construct the Wall MG Nest -=- Ending the Mission before It Begins The most effective way to complete this mission is to end it before it even begins. What do I mean by that? Well, I mean you will defend the first primary objective with everything you can muster and end the mission for the enemy team before they can even get to the second objective. -=- The Far Left Right as the mission starts, start sprinting to the left side of the map. You will come to some stacked boxes and a railing at the top of the boxes; climb this so that you are now on the upper level. After that, head through the doors and hallway until you reach the very leftmost side of the level, which is on a raised platform that overlooks the entrance to the Prison below. -=- The Vantage Point From this vantage point, you can see everything the enemy team is doing. Look for clustered groups of enemies and start throwing your grenade and Molotov cocktail. After that pull out your assault rifle and start picking off enemies (use controlled bursts when firing, do not hold down the trigger!). When your grenade and Molotov cocktail are ready to throw again, go ahead and throw them. Once you run out of assault rifle ammo, pull out your SMG and jump down. You can then climb up the left side onto the same ground level that the enemy is on and begin to tear them up with your SMG. Do not be careless about this though, you need to stay alive as long as possible so that the enemy team is delayed in completing the primary objective. Maneuver around the fences and concrete barriers for cover. Don't forget to continue throwing grenades and Molotov cocktails. Eventually your team members will start to join you on the ground level (if they weren't down there already). Now begins the phase of the battle where you have the enemy trapped in their spawn point at the far end of the ramp. This is a perfect place to throw grenades and Molotov cocktails. If you ever die and respawn, just repeat everything over again exactly the same as before. The mission timer will run out for the enemy team and you will see victory. If you fail to successfully defend the first objective (perhaps the enemy team gets it in the last minute), then you still have a good chance of mission victory because of how much time was run down on the mission timer. === Mission 4: Prison Break Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5130719 -=- They destroyed the conduit, what do I do now? If you fail to defend the first objective, your next objective will be to defend a safe and its passcode. The safe room has a hallway next to it with glass doors in front of the hallway. This hallway is a good place to set up a defensive position; the glass doorway is a good chokepoint to funnel the enemy through, and the safe room to your left is a good place to retreat to if things get too hectic in the hallway. Hold the enemy off in this area; if your team shaved several minutes off of the mission timer during the first primary objective, you shouldn't have to hold out too long at the safe room to pull out the mission victory. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Sec5] Mission 5: Early Launch ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Primary Objectives: 1. Escort Primary Objective Class Ally (Engineer) 2. Escort Primary Objective Class Ally (Operative) Secondary Objectives: 1. Destroy Main Barricade 2. Destroy Side Barricade 3. Capture the Health Command Post 4. Capture the Supply Command Post Non-Soldier Objectives: 1. Repair the Crane Controls (Engineer) 2. Hack the Missile Controls (Operative) 3. Construct the Crane MG Nest 4. Construct the Bridge MG Nest -=- Opening Health Command Post Capture When the mission starts, head to the left and up a ramp to capture the Health Command Post (if a team member hasn't started already). -=- The Barricades The enemy will attempt to build two barricades that block off the main objective area. You will know when this is happening because an outline of the barricade(s) will appear as it is constructed. While this is happening, you can see the engineer constructing it through the outline; shoot the engineers first so that the barricades are never constructed. -=- Pushing In & Defending Your team should have an easy time pushing into the objective room through the barricade entrances. Once inside, you will have to defend the room. There are long pathways the enemy must travel through in order to reach the objective, so pull out your assault rifle and take them out from a distance. The crane is in the middle of the room; it makes for good cover, so maneuver around it as needed. === Mission 5, Part 1: Early Launch Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5130834 -=- Opening Health Command Post Capture (again) Just as in the first half of the mission, you should start out by capturing the Health Command Post. It is in a room with two entrances on opposite ends. Once you capture it, the enemy will probably get the same idea and start streaming through the entrance opposite of your entrance. Defend the area from these attacks, then proceed out towards where the enemy is attacking from. -=- Supporting Your Team Outside of the Health Command Post room and to the left is a large open area. The enemy frequently travels through this area to launch attacks on the main objective; you will want to harass them as they do this. In front of you is a ramp to the left, with a pipe jutting out from the right; this spot is a great place to set up a defensive position with your assault rifle. You can shoot at enemies from behind the pipe and crouch or move backward if you need to take cover. Shooting and killing enemies from this position will greatly take the pressure off of your team members, who are all probably defending the objective directly. -=- Alternatively... Far off to the opposite of the position mentioned above is another area that is a good spot to harass the enemy from (although not quite as good). If you die and respawn, you may want to swing around to this side and try it out. The main disadvantage of going to this side though is that you can't defend the Health Command Post. === Mission 5, Part 2: Early Launch Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5130992 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Sec6] Mission 6: Fallout ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Primary Objectives: 1. Defend the Vent System 2. Defend the Reactor Secondary Objectives: 1. Defend the Bridge Access Panel 2. Capture the Health Command Post 3. Capture the Supply Command Post Non-Soldier Objectives: 1. Construct the Office MG Nest 2. Construct the Escalators MG Nest 3. Construct the Doorway MG Nest 4. Construct the Walkway MG Nest -=- Defending the Vent System To win this mission, we are going to stop the enemy from ever completing the first primary objective. The first primary objective starts with ten minutes on the mission timer, so you are in for a tough fight. -=- The Vent Access Panels There are two primary objectives you have to defend, and both of them are in a large building with two separate rooms. -=- Defending the Ground Level Your first option when defending the primary objective locations is to stick to the ground level and fight enemies face-to-face. You'll want to have your SMG out when on the ground level of the building, because most of the fighting will take place at close range. Protecting the objectives from the ground level requires a constant state of movement; you can't keep your eyes on both objective locations at once, so you will need to constantly move through the central corridor to check on each room. If you look through one of the entrances (i.e. you are looking outside) and see the enemy coming, pull out your assault rifle and take them out from a distance before they get to the entrance. If some of them manage to reach the entrance, retreat back into the room to the side of the doorway, pull out your SMG, and let them enter the room a little bit so that you can shoot them in the back. You can also get a Molotov cocktail ready to throw and hit them with it as they enter the room. -=- Defending the Upper Level Inside the main objective building is an upper level that has a good view of both objective locations. One of the main advantages of defending from the upper level is that you can easily keep an eye on both objective locations and respond immediately. However, the main disadvantage is that you can't look outside, so you have to wait for the enemy to actually enter the building before you can engage. Grenades and Molotov cocktails are very easy to aim when throwing from a raised location, so if you see a large group of enemies enter one of the rooms be sure to lob something on top of their heads. The assault rifle will be your weapon of choice when shooting from the upper level, because you need its precision and higher bullet damage. If you see enemies enter the central corridor, you can drop down behind them and spray them in the back with your SMG. === Mission 6: Fallout Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5131174 -=- They destroyed the vent system! The primary objective shifts over to the reactor room, which is a large circle with two entrances. Both entrances have narrow hallways connected to them, and your team only has to worry about one of them. Set up a strong defensive position at the entrance to the reactor room that is opposite your team's entrance; this is where the enemies will attack from. The doorway to the reactor room gives you good cover to retreat behind, as there is plenty of moving space on either side. The narrow hallway that the enemy must travel through makes it easy to throw explosives at them and pick them off with assault rifles. If any enemies make it through the hallway and get close to (or even go through) the doorway, pull out your SMG and spray them down. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Sec7] Mission 7: Chopper Down ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Primary Objectives: 1. Defend the Pillar 2. Disable the Bot 3. Defend the Bridge 4. Defend the Gate Controls Secondary Objectives: 1. Defend the Shop Door 2. Capture the Health Command Post 3. Capture the Supply Command Post Non-Soldier Objectives: 1. Construct the Entrance MG Nest 2. Construct the Shop MG Nest 3. Construct the Lounge MG Nest 4. Construct the Crash Site MG Nest 5. Construct the Cafe MG Nest 6. Construct the Balcony MG Nest 7. Construct the Hotel Balcony MG Nest 8. Construct the Apartment Balcony MG Nest -=- The Health Command Post Down the stairs from the Pillar room is a Health Command Post. Right when the mission starts, go capture it. Throughout the time spent defending the Pillar, keep control of the Health Command Post; it is very easy for the Security team to capture it, so there is no reason not to maintain control. The glass door that protects it will eventually be opened by the enemy team, creating another path of attack for them. -=- Defending the Pillar To make subsequent primary objectives easier, you will want to hold out at the Pillar objective as long as possible. Your main concern should be keeping your team members safe and alive so that your team can maintain its defensive position inside the Pillar room. The enemy team will launch attacks from multiple entrances, so be prepared to defend against an assault from all front and side entryways. Each attack the enemy launches at you is not meant to take control of the room in one fell swoop; instead, these attacks are meant to gradually wear down your team's defenses through attrition. You will probably win many battles against the enemy team for the first half of the mission timer; you may start to notice though that your team's strength is slowly wearing down and that it's getting harder and harder to defend the Pillar. Eventually your team will reach a breaking point and the enemy team will use that opportunity to take control of the objective and complete it. === Mission 7, Part 1: Chopper Down Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5133347 -=- The Opener Once the Bot objective starts, head up the right side of the map on the upper level. You'll come to a bridge, which is directly over the path that the Bot (and its enemy escorts) will take. You can use this bridge to pick off the escorts with an assault rifle, and also throw a grenade and Molotov cocktail as they get closer. Once they pass under the bridge, you can either stay on the bridge and shoot them from behind, or you can drop down below with an SMG and shoot the survivors in the back (only do this if the enemy has been reduced to just a few in number). This gives your team momentary control over the Bot's progress. -=- The Bridge If the enemy team has some good momentum going, it can be difficult to prevent the bridge's destruction. In fact, the enemy team may blow it up so quick that you barely notice it was even there. Because of this, it is a good idea to anticipate where the bridge is ahead of time and try to stop the enemy there. Making them repair a disabled Bot and destroy the bridge at the same time will put lots of pressure on their ability to fight back. -=- The MG Nest Overlooking the Bridge There is an MG Nest that is setup directly in front of the bridge on a balcony. This machine gun is the perfect defensive position to tear up the enemy team and quickly disable the Bot with the machine gun's unlimited ammo. This position is generally safe, but you will need to watch your left side, because enemies will attack from that direction on the upper level. === Mission 7, Part 2: Chopper Down Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5133509 -=- The Gate Controls The Gate Controls are in a small series of rooms and hallways. Outside this area is a large open area, with a giant, closed-off circle garden in the middle. The enemy can come from the multiple exits and levels opposite of the objective room. -=- The Circle Garden The circle garden in the center of the area is going to be where you spend most of your time, as its circular shape gives you good cover to retreat back to. Just stay around the back half of the circle so that if you do need to retreat, all you have to do is hug the circle and take a few steps backwards. The enemy will attack from both sides of the circle, so it is a good idea to continually walk back and forth along the back side of the circle to check both sides for attacks. -=- Respawning When you die and respawn, it is inside a building. If you stick to the upper level of the building and go outside onto the balcony, you have a good view of the enemy's primary balcony that they frequently exit. You can use this position to throw grenades & Molotov cocktails, as well as picking off enemies with an assault rifle. -=- If the Enemy Gets Inside the Objective Room... If the enemy penetrates your defenses and gets inside the objective room, quickly run over to it and enter it. Rather than take the left route inside towards the objective, instead take the right hallway. The enemy will expect you from the left side, but can be easily flanked from behind if you take the right side. === Mission 7, Part 3: Chopper Down Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5133767 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Sec8] Mission 8: Grand Theft Aero ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Primary Objectives: 1. Defend the Storage Depot Door 2. Defend the Hydraulic Fluid 3. Defend the Warehouse Controls 4. Defend the Avionics 5. Defend the Fuel Pump Secondary Objectives: 1. Capture the Health Command Post 2. Capture the Supply Command Post Non-Soldier Objectives: 1. Construct the Nimbus MG Nest 2. Construct the Warehouse MG Nest 3. Construct the Fence MG Nest -=- The Storage Depot & Hydraulic Fluid The storage depot which you are defending has three directions the enemy can attack from: the middle lower area, the far left side, and the right side. All of these areas create chokepoints for the enemy to travel through, so all are vulnerable to your grenades and Molotov cocktails. The middle lower area is probably the worst direction for the enemy to attack from, because it is very easy for you to shoot down at them and lob explosives on top of them; likewise, they will have a difficult time shooting back since all you have to do is take a few steps back or crouch. -=- Respawning & the Supply Command Post Every time you respawn it is convenient to check on and capture the Suppy Command Post, so be sure to keep it in your team's hands. It will be very helpful for the first two primary objectives, because you should be throwing lots of grenades and Molotov cocktails at the enemy as they travel through the chokepoints. === Mission 8, Part 1: Grand Theft Aero Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5133906 -=- Stopping the Hydraulic Fluid Carriers This is the primary objective you should go for to win the mission. Once the hydraulic fluid is picked up by the enemy, it's time to setup a strong defensive position inside the hangar bay where the airplane is. Luckily for us, the hangar bay is very easy to defend. -=- The Hangar Bay & the Airplane Just above the ramps at the entrance of the hangar bay is where the enemy will be at their strongest. Stay away from the ramps and shoot at enemies from a distance; pull out your assault rifle and pick them off as they appear. Once they start moving down the ramps, you can begin to throw grenades and Molotov cocktails at them. If they get close to the objective, either throw a Molotov cocktail at the drop-off point or move in with your SMG. Your team will help you inside the hangar, so return the favor by making sure they stay alive. === Mission 8, Part 2: Grand Theft Aero Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5134043 -=- They delivered the Hydraulic Fluid! Quickly move over to the next primary objective building, which is the warehouse. There are two options for defending this building: either defend it from the ground level, or defend it from the upper level. From the ground level you can shoot at a good distance away from the enemy team with your assault rifle. If you hug the right side of the warehouse, it provides some decent cover for you to retreat behind. As the enemies get closer you can start to throw explosives at them and pull out your SMG. Defending from the upper level of the warehouse provides a good view of everything going on down below. The assault rifle will be your best choice of weapon, as you will be picking off enemies from a distance as they get in your view through the warehouse doorway. One advantage of being on the upper level is that it is very easy to aim your grenades and Molotov cocktails at groups of enemies as they enter the building. If too many enemies get inside the warehouse on the ground level, do your best to take them out one at a time and delay the enemy as much as possible until your team can take back control. Make sure you target any enemies that move toward the warehouse controls. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [RCam] Resistance Campaign ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Res1] Mission 1: Getting Answers ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Primary Objective: 1. Defend the Door 2. Stop the Agent Secondary Objectives: 1. Capture the Health Command Post 2. Capture the Supply Command Post 3. Defend Lift Generator Non-Soldier Objective: 1. Construct the Atrium MG Nest 2. Construct the Ramp MG Nest 3. Construct the Lobby MG Nest -=- Stop Them Here & Now Making a strong defense at the first primary objective is an excellent opportunity to win the mission before the enemy can complete any primary objectives. -=- Close Quarters Combat This mission has a lot of close corners and enclosed spaces, so you need to keep your SMG out more than your assault rifle. Stick close to your fellow team members when in the objective door room, because the mutual support will help everyone survive the close range firefights. The enemy team will constantly be bunched together, so be ready to toss cooked grenades and Molotov cocktails. -=- The Sliding-Under Pipe To the left of the primary objective door is an entryway that has a pipe covering the top half of it. Using SMART moves, you (as well as others) can slide under it. This can be useful if you need to flank the enemy, but try not to use it too much; if the enemy catches you in mid-slide, there is a good chance you are going to be taken out before you can respond. If enemies launch an attack from behind the pipe, you can pull out your assault rifle, crouch down, and pick them off while aiming down the sight. Until they slide under the pipe and into the same room with you, they won't have much to respond to you with. You can also toss a grenade under the pipe if there are a large number of enemies; you can even do this from the right at an angle if you bounce the grenade off the left wall and under the pipe. -=- The Health Command Post If the action around the primary objective door gets quiet, take the opportunity to swing around and grab the Health Command Post. Not only is doing this a good idea for the health buff to your team, but capturing it will create a distraction for the enemy team that will lighten the number of enemies attacking the primary objective room. While you are out there, it also may provide you with a good opportunity to flank occupied enemies. === Mission 1: Getting Answers Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5134201 -=- So you didn't stop them from blowing up the door? As mentioned, you will want to stop the enemy at the first primary objective and win the mission there. If you didn't manage that, then don't fret. Using the tactics I've given you, you should have run down the mission timer by a good amount. This will give the enemy less time to get their Agent to the extraction point, so if you can keep them pinned down you will have an easy victory. Make liberal use of grenades and Molotov cocktails, as the splash damage will also hurt the Agent a great deal. Target enemy medics first since they can revive the Agent when he is incapacitated. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Res2] Mission 2: Breakout ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Primary Objectives: 1. Destroy the Conduit 2. Escort Primary Objective Class Ally (Operative) 3. Deliver the Passcode 4. Escort Nechayev Secondary Objectives: 1. Capture the Health Command Post 2. Capture the Supply Command Post Non-Soldier Objectives 1. Hack the Safe (Operative) 2. Construct the Guardhouse MG Nest 3. Construct the Wall MG Nest -=- Destroying the Conduit Right when the mission starts, immediately sprint over to the conduit and begin opening the panel. After that, quickly plant the explosive charge. By the time you plant it, the enemy team should be showing up and may already be right on top of you. At this point, your main goal is to delay the enemy team as much as possible so that the countdown timer on the explosive runs out. To do this, you should try to stay alive while at the same time preventing the enemy from getting close to the explosive charge. A Molotov cocktail is a great choice to start out with, because you may not have time to cook a grenade. After the Molotov cocktail lands on the enemy, finish off the enemies you hit and start cooking a grenade. If the enemies start rushing in towards the objective, you may not have time to cook the grenade and may be forced to pull out your SMG. If you die and respawn, rush back to the objective as quickly as you can with your assault rifle and aim at any enemies trying to disarm the explosive charge. Doing all of this will let your team quickly take out the first primary objective and will give you a great time buffer for other primary objectives on the mission timer. === Mission 2, Part 1: Breakout Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5134314 -=- Attacking the Safe Room The safe room has a hallway next to it with some bulletproof glass doors in front of the hallway. The glass doors make it easy to see the enemy positions, so you can duck behind the glass and cook a grenade, then pop out and throw it at the biggest threat. This will allow you to quickly kill a few enemies. In the left corner of that hallway next to the glass is a spot that the enemy sometimes like to wait at. Normally this would be a good spot for the enemy to ambush you from, but since you can see them waiting through the glass, it's pretty easy to walk around the glass and spray them down with an SMG. -=- After Securing the Safe Room After your team gets into the Safe room, head down the stairs and set up a defense in the room down there. Stopping the enemy advances from this room will allow your team members to safely hack the safe upstairs. -=- Escorting the Passcode Carrier When one of your team members picks up the Passcode, it's time to start escorting them to the drop-off point. The drop-off point is in a long room, and the carrier will have to run a pretty good distance. You will have to quickly take in the situation of the room, because more than likely you are the carrier's first line of defense (other team members can sometimes be slow to follow). Make sure you don't run in front of the carrier, because you want to survive the fight; if you die first, then you both die. === Mission 2, Part 2: Breakout Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5134385 -=- Getting the Prisoner Through the Narrow Hallway While escorting the Prisoner, there is a somewhat narrow hallway that you must push through that can take a lot of time. Enemies have an excellent view of the Prisoner in this spot, so he will frequently become incapacitated. However, one advantage that you have is that the hallway creates a chokepoint the enemy team must enter, which causes them to sometimes bunch up. This hallway is a good area to lob grenades and Molotov cocktails into because of that. -=- Exiting the Prison Structure Another tricky spot can be the large open area that leads to the front door of the prison (which is your exit). The enemy engineers may construct stationary auto-turrets in this area, and these will stop all progress until they are destroyed. There is a fence you can take cover behind on the left side of the pathway leading into the open area; from that position, you can lob explosives and use your assault rifle to wear down the enemy's defense. -=- Exiting the Prison Yard Once the Prisoner makes it to the outside, your main concern will shift to your left and right flanks. The enemy team will launch attacks from each far side of the compound, so hug cover as best you can and try to maneuver in such a way that you only have to engage a few enemies at a time. Once the Prisoner makes it past the fenced area (which you can use for cover), you can set up a strong defensive position at the back ramp and finish the mission. === Mission 2, Part 3: Breakout Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5134514 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Res3] Mission 3: Chen's Plans ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Primary Objectives: 1. Defend the Mainframe 2. Defend the Safe 3. Defend the Datakey Secondary Objectives: 1. Capture the Health Command Post 2. Capture the Supply Command Post Non-Soldier Objective: 1. Construct the Check-In MG Nest -=- Time for a Temporary Weapon Change Up to this point in the game, I have always used an assault rifle as the primary weapon and an SMG as the secondary weapon. That combination is a versatile choice that will serve you well in any situation. However, for mission 3 of the Resistance campaign, it's a good idea to try out the shotgun as a primary weapon because the first primary objective involves some fighting in tight quarters. -=- The Opening Ambush Right when the mission starts, rush to the room on the left side (that has a platform leading to the main objective room). When you reach this room, head over to the right side of it and set yourself up on the left side of the right entrance; soon enough there will be several enemies rushing through here on the way to drop down into the main objective room. While brandishing the shotgun, you can take them out one by one as they enter and pull out your SMG when you run out of loaded ammo. Depending on how many enemies decided to take this path, you may end up fighting a good number of the enemy team and get killed. However, it is worth it because you will delay their ability to get properly setup in the main objective room. -=- The Primary Objective Room There are three paths the enemy will use to attack this room: the front entrance, the back entrance (from the Health Command Post), and the ceiling platform. If you battle foes outside of the glass enclosure, keep your SMG out since it has much better range than your shotgun. If things get too dicey in this room, retreat into the glass enclosure where the primary objective is. While in here, you can pull out your shotgun and easily blow away any enemies foolish enough to enter the small area. -=- The Health Command Post Through the back entrance to the primary objective room is the Health Command Post. It's in a position that allows your team to keep tabs on it, but the enemy team will frequently use this area as a route of attack. If you hear that the enemy is capturing a command post, there is a good chance that you can make your way back to this small room and catch an enemy with his back to you. === Mission 3, Part 1: Chen's Plans Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5134629 -=- Defending the Safe & the Datakey Both of these objectives are in the same location, which is a large room with two sets of stairways and three entrances. With your shotgun and SMG, a good spot to be if you are directly defending the objective is at the top of the stairs. With the shotgun out, you can easily blast away any enemies that try to enter through the hallway at the top of the stairs since it is such a tight area. If enemies enter through one of the two entrances on the lower level, whip out your SMG and run down one of the staircases to flank the enemy from behind. -=- Setting Up Near the Supply Command Post An alternative plan is to patrol the large room that the Supply Command Post is in. Enemies frequently travel through this room, which presents many opportunities to ambush and harass them. If you can lock this room down and stop all enemy movement in the area, it will greatly ease off the pressure your team members will have while defending the primary objective room. Not only that, but it also ensures that your team maintains complete control over the Supply Command Post. === Mission 3, Part 2: Chen's Plans Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5134775 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Res4] Mission 4: Black Box ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Primary Objectives: 1. Construct the Lounge MG Nest 6. Construct the Crash Site MG Nest 7. Construct the Cafe MG Nest 8. Construct the Balcony MG Nest 9. Construct the Hotel Balcony MG Nest 10. Construct the Apartment Balcony MG Nest -=- The Supply Command Post Start out the mission by capturing the Supply Command Post. It's in a location that is easy for your team to hold, so there is no reason to not have it. -=- The Health Command Post An Operative will need to hack the shop door in order to open up easy access to the Health Command Post; once this happens, start regularly taking this route so that you can continually keep the Health Command Post in your team's hands. -=- Taking Over the Pillar Room The enemy team will initially have the Pillar room locked down and defended very well, so it's useless to rush in with guns blazing. The best strategy is to slowly wear down the enemy's defenses until your team can enter the room and establish a strong presence. To accomplish this goal, there are two things you need to do. The first is to kill all enemies that dare to leave the Pillar room. The second is to take pot shots into the room and try to kill enemies with your assault rifle. Doing both of these tasks will gradually wear down the enemy defenses inside the Pillar room and will open up opportunities for your team members to take over. === Mission 4, Part 1: Black Box Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5134867 -=- Escorting the Bot Protecting the Bot as it makes its way through the mall is straightforward enough. All you really have to do is keep it in view and kill enemies as they approach it. You can stay right next to the Bot and use it for cover as you shoot at enemies; you can also stay a few meters behind the Bot and use your assault rifle to pick enemies off at a distance. Staying behind the Bot allows you to cover your team's flanks. === Mission 4, Part 2: Black Box Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5134959 -=- Easy Mode MG Nest Once you get to the "Hack the Gate Controls" objective, you start to fight in a large open room with a circle garden in the middle. To the left is the objective room, to your right is your respawn building, and across the area to the distant right is the enemy's respawn building. On the upper level of your team's building is a balcony with a machine gun nest. If you man this machine gun, everything in this mission suddenly becomes easy mode. The machine gun is pointed right at the enemy's respawn buidling, so you can easily shoot away at them with your unlimited ammo. The only thing you have to worry about is not making the machine gun overheat, but that's a minor concern. If you do happen to overheat the machine gun, all you have to do is just pull out your assault rifle, shoot an enemy, then jump back onto the machine gun. === Mission 4, Part 3: Black Box Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5135090 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Res5] Mission 5: Attack on Container City ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Primary Objectives: 1. Defend the Gate 2. Disable the Maintenance Bot 3. Defend the Crane 4. Defend the Sample Secondary Objectives: 1. Defend the Side Door 2. Defend Side Stairs 3. Capture the Health Command Post 4. Capture the Supply Command Post Non-Soldier Objectives: 1. Construct Market Barricade 2. Construct the Gate MG Nest 3. Construct the Ship MG Nest 4. Construct the Crane MG Nest -=- Defending the Gate If you remember back to the Security campaign, destroying the front gate was a quick and fairly easy objective to complete. Now that you are on the Resistance team, you don't want to let that happen. In fact, you want to hold the enemy here as long as possible and run down the mission timer. It's possible to win the mission here, but very difficult. -=- Opening Moves As you approach the front gate, the enemy has probably already reached it and might even have gotten the explosive charge planted. Ready a grenade or Molotov cocktail and throw it so that it explodes right next to where the explosive charge is planted; if anyone is planting it, they will be knocked down. After that, proceed to mop up all enemies with your SMG by shooting through the gaps in the gate. -=- Right Out of the Gate Once you get outside of the front gate, you'll need to quickly get your bearings because this area is right next to the enemy's spawn point. Each time the enemy respawns, they will come down the main path, as well as through the small path in between the shipping containers. Every time this happens, you'll need to ready a grenade or Molotov cocktail to throw so that multiple enemies are hit. Quickly finish off the injured enemies, then proceed to deal with the others. By about this time, the Maintenance Bot should be rolling down the main pathway. -=- The Maintenance Bot While defending the front gate, the enemy Bot will be your best friend. Why? Because it's your cover. Maneuvering around this thing will keep you safe from harm and will allow you to reload safely and cook grenades. Sometimes enemies can still shoot at you (which depends on the various lines of sight and angles), so you may need to crouch in certain instances. -=- So is all this work worth it? Yes. Running the mission timer down as much as you can on the first primary objective will make victory come easy on the next primary objective. === Mission 5, Part 1: Attack on Container City Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5135295 -=- Keep It Up Once the front gate is destroyed, you can keep on using the same tactics you used before to defend the front gate. The main difference now is that there is no front gate, so it's actually much easier now since your team can assist you more readily. Keep using the Maintenance Bot as your cover. -=- Rolling Forward If you die and respawn, that will probably give the enemy team enough time to repair the Bot and get it moving again. That's okay though, because all of the delay tactics we've been using so far means that the enemy team doesn't have much time left on the mission timer. From here on out, all you have to do is continually suppress the enemy team and just wait on the mission to be over. === Mission 5, Part 2: Attack on Container City Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5137695 -=- So the maintenance bot made it huh? Well, if the maintenance bot made it to its destination, that means we are on the last primary objective, which is defending the sample. The sample is on a lower ground level with a path leading to it. While enemies are moving through this pathway, you can shoot down on them from multiple positions on the upper levels. It also makes for an easy spot to lob explosives down on their heads. The pathway leads to a corridor, where the market barricade is (or more likely was). There is also another entrance to the left of the corridor, which leads to a Command Post; controlling the Command Post can be difficult since it distracts you from the primary objective, but it does provide a good spot to rush in and shoot enemies in the back if you hear they are capturing it. On the left side of the objective area is a platform with a shipping container next to it (which is on the same side that leads to the Command Post). If you can control this area, your team will have an easier time defending the sample. From this position you can move to either side of the shipping container and shoot down at enemies as they move towards the sample. The right side of the container is especially useful, as it looks directly at the sample and provides a good spot to throw explosives from. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Res6] Mission 6: Airborne ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Primary Objectives: 1. Destroy the Storage Depot Door 2. Deliver the Hydraulic Fluid 3. Escort Primary Objective Class Ally (Operative) 4. Deliver the Avionics 5. Repair the Fuel Pump Secondary Objectives: 1. Capture the Health Command Post 2. Capture the Supply Command Post Non-Soldier Objectives: 1. Hack the Warehouse Controls (Operative) 2. Construct the Nimbus MG Nest 3. Construct the Warehouse MG Nest 4. Construct the Fence MG Nest -=- Supporting the First Objective The first objective is pretty easy to complete, but you can make it even more easy to complete for your team by moving ahead of them and harassing the enemy team out in the open area in front of the hangar. There are plenty of little spots to sit at with your assault rifle, so pick one and start shooting at enemies as they pass you by. You will want to kill enemies of course, but your main goal should be staying alive as long as possible so that you can keep the enemies occupied and away from the primary objective. === Mission 6, Part 1: Airborne Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5137784 -=- The Hydraulic Fluid In order to get the Hydraulic Fluid safely into the hangar, you and your team will need to take over the entrance of the hangar at the top of the ramps. To accomplish this, you will need to establish a strong presence in the open area around the hangar and kill all enemies in the area; this will allow your team members to start gathering around the hangar at its entrance and begin to push inside. You have the high ground at the top of the ramps, so use grenades and Molotov cocktails to suppress the enemy team's ability to fight back. You can then push into the hangar, secure the area, and let the carrier pour the Hydraulic Fluid into the plane. === Mission 6, Part 2: Airborne Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5137965 -=- The Warehouse A good spot to support your team at inside the warehouse is on the upper level above the Warehouse Controls. The enemy team frequently uses the door up there to travel through and shoot down on your team, so locking that area down will go a long way in supporting your team. Because the door on the upper level is connected to a small room the enemy must move through, you can use the upper level as a strong defensive position because of this chokepoint. Inside the small room, enemies have no space to escape grenades and Molotov cocktails; you can very easily clear out the entire room with just a thrown explosive and a few bursts of your SMG. While all of that is going on, your team will be safe and secure on the ground level of warehouse and can complete the primary objective. === Mission 6, Part 3: Airborne Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5138064 -=- Delivering the Avionics This objective is a little harder than the delivery of the Hydraulic Fluid because the objective locations and paths the carrier has to take between them is closer to the enemy respawn point, and is therefore more dangerous. Using the same tactics that you used for the Hydraulic Fluid is still effective, but delivering the Avionics easily will require more finesse. So, what you will do is deliver the Avionics yourself. Grab the Avionics in the warehouse and make your way towards the large open area in front of the hangar. Don't go directly towards the hangar though, instead make your way along the far left side so that you end up to the left of the hangar; doing this means you will be closer to your team's respawn area and further away from the enemy's respawn area. Take your time while moving, because you want to give your team members a chance to keep up with you (especially the Heavy body types). The next step will be to establish a strong position at the top of the ramps leading into the hangar (just as was done for the Hydraulic Fluid). Because you are the Avionics carrier, you will need to be a little more careful so as not to die. All that really means is taking cover more often and not standing completely exposed at the top of the ramps. When you feel the time is right, start pushing into the hangar; your team will follow suit. You can find some good cover in the corner of the hangar to the left of the ramps, where some crates are. From here you can use your assault rifle to pick off enemies at a distance and support your team. After that, hug the left wall of the hangar and make your way towards the drop-off point. When it is safe, run over to it and complete the objective. === Mission 6, Part 4: Airborne Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5138254 -=- Guarding the Fuel Pump Right after you complete the Avionics objective, your team should already have a strong presence in the hangar, so finishing this objective shouldn't be too hard. If the enemy team pushes your team out of the hangar, you will need to repeat the process of controlling the main entrance and then pushing into the hangar from ramps. By now you've done this several times in this mission, so taking over the hangar at this point should go very smoothly. === Mission 6, Part 5: Airborne Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5138416 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Res7] Mission 7: Operation Babel ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Primary Objectives: 1. Defend the Crane Controls Non-Soldier Objectives: 1. Construct the Main Barricade 2. Construct the Side Barricade 3. Construct the Crane MG Nest 3. Construct the Bridge MG Nest -=- Defend the Crane Controls (and that's it) You will want to win the mission by completing the first primary objective, which is to run down the ten minute mission timer to zero. This is surprisingly easy to do, as the layout of the level favors the defending team when playing with the computer-controlled players. The first task you will need to do is support your team members as they attempt to construct the barricades. The best way to do this is to venture out beyond the barricades and delay the enemy team's advances. Once the barricades are built, the primary objective will remain relatively safe (for as long as the barricades are not destroyed). With this in mind, you can go out and capture the Command Posts to give buffs to your team. After the barricades are built and the Command Posts are captured, all you really need to do afterwards is wander around the map and kill enemies. The enemy team might manage to destroy one of the barricades once or twice, and when that happens you will need to retreat back to the primary objective so that you can support your team with some extra firepower. === Mission 7: Operation Babel Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5138543 -=- It's already time to defend the missile? You have three options when it comes time to defend the second primary objective: you can set yourself up around the Health Command Post, you can defend the missile controls area directly, or you can do both. Defending the Health Command Post has the potential to really take the pressure off your team as they defend the primary objective, as there is typically a constant stream of enemies that want to capture the Command Post. Defending the missile controls directly will give your team extra firepower in the open area around the missile, which they may need. Overall, it's probably best to keep yourself mobile and move to the action as it occurs. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Res8] Mission 8: Critical Reaction ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Primary Objectives: 1. Escort Primary Objective Class Ally (Operative) 2. Destroy the Reactor Secondary Objectives: 1. Capture the Health Command Post 2. Capture the Supply Command Post Non-Soldier Objectives: 1. Hack the Vent System (Operative) 2. Repair the Bridge Access Panel 3. Construct the Office MG Nest 4. Construct the Escalators MG Nest 5. Construct the Doorway MG Nest 6. Construct the Walkway MG Nest -=- The Health Command Post Start out the mission by capturing the Health Command Post. You will want to check on it every time you respawn as well and capture it as needed. Keeping the Health Command Post is a good idea not only for the team health buff it provides, but also because it draws enemies out of the primary objective building, which weakens their defenses. -=- The Vent System Building This is the same building you were defending in Mission 6 (Fallout) of the Security campaign, so the layout should be familiar to you. The same general tactics are the same: you can either secure the building from the ground level or you can secure it from the upper level. Guarding the objectives from the ground level means you will be moving around a lot between the two objective rooms through the central corridor. Shoot enemies from within the building with your assault rifle and lob grenades at them as they get close. Once they enter the building, you can pull out your SMG and finish them off. If enemies are on the opposite side of the building from your side, you can use the central corridor to move in and possibly ambush them with their backs turned to you. Guarding the objectives from the upper level involves less movement, mostly because both objectives are much easier to see and check for enemies. Using your assault rifle, grenades, and Molotov cocktails, you can rain down hell on top of the enemy team's heads as they enter the building. It's very easy to take cover from the upper level, as all you have to do is take a few steps back or crouch down. The main disadvantage of being on the upper level is that you can't engage enemies outside of the building; obviously though you can take a step outside if things are too quiet. === Mission 8, Part 1: Critical Reaction Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5138641 -=- The Health Command Post Every time you respawn, run over to the Health Command Post and make sure it is still under your control. Your team will need the health buff to finish the mission. -=- The Chokepoint Firefight The reactor room is a large circular room with two entrances. The entrance on your side of the map is a narrow room; the main problem you will immediately be faced with is that your team has very little space to maneuver around in this area. On the opposite side is a door to the reactor room, where the enemy is set up and will be firing from. The reactor room gives the enemy team plenty of space to move around in, while your team has to move through the narrow room with virtually no cover. Long story short, your team has to make it through a chokepoint in order to get to the reactor room. Making it past this point can be difficult, but that is why it is necessary to keep the Health Command Post under your control; the team health buff is very helpful. At the end of the room on your side, you can use your assault rifle to pick off enemies in the doorway from a distance. When it's time to move up and try to enter the room, you can throw grenades and Molotov cocktails into the doorway to soften enemies up. -=- The Reactor Room As said before, the reactor room is a long circular room with two entrances on opposite ends. Once you are able to enter the reactor room, things become much easier. If you are alone, stick to one of the two sides of the circle and attack enemies with your SMG and Molotov cocktails as they come towards you. If you have the support of your team, move to the entrance that the enemy comes through and set up a defensive position with your assault rifle. With the support of your team, you can hold out here until the end of the mission. === Mission 8, Part 2: Critical Reaction Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5138782 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [CHA!] Challenge Missions ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [CCS!] Challenge Character Setup ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For the challenge missions, you will want to create a brand new character. Why? Because your computer-controlled enemies are the same rank as you in the challenges, and giving them more abilities to work with will make each of the challenges much harder to complete. In fact, for each of the challenge missions I will recommend specific abilities to unlock that are useful; however, I will also recommend that every time you unlock a new ability point to spend above the recommeneed level, that you should sell all your abilities. This will cause your character to go down a level and keep them at the previous level. For the short term, doing this isn't that big of a deal; in the long run though, you'll want to do this if you frequently fail challenges and rack up a large amount of extra experience. Completing challenges on one character will unlock new equipment on all of your characters, so you only have to complete each challenge one time. For each of the challenges below, I used the Medium body type with an assault rifle primary weapon and an SMG as a secondary weapon. The assault rifle you decide to use doesn't really matter, just as long as you are comfortable at firing with it while aiming down the sight. However, the choice of SMG is fairly important in my opinion. Many of the challenges on the harder difficulty levels will have a constant stream of enemies advancing towards you, and many times they will get right up in your face. I recommend that you use the Tampa SMG for the challenge missions, for one simple reason: it is the SMG with the fastest reload time. When you have several enemies in close proximity to you, you will not have enough bullets in one magazine to take them all down; therefore, reload speed is going to be the most important attribute to consider when choosing an SMG. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Obj1] Be More Objective 1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Max Character Level: 3 Character Abilities: Battle Hardened Combat Intuition Sense of Perspective -=- Objective 1: Plant HE Charge Right when the mission starts, immediately begin running up the left side of the map and plant the explosive charge. Once you do that, you will have to listen to the instructor talk for a few seconds; right when she finishes talking, back away from the planted charge and take cover by the stacked crates to your left. From behind these crates you can shoot the enemies running in from the right, and you can also shoot any enemies trying to disarm the explosive charge. After it explodes, head over to the newly revealed Command Post and change to the Engineer class. -=- Objective 2: Repair the Generator After switching to the Engineer class, head down the right side of the map from the Command Post. You can then turn left at the corner, which will be looking in the direction of the repair objective. It is inside a building; by the time you get over there, some enemies may have already taken positions inside and behind the building. A good way to clear the building out is to throw a grenade through the front door, then go around to the right side of it and shoot through the barred-up door at those inside. After that, you can enter the building through the door that you threw the grenade in. If there are no enemies around, you can start to repair the generator. If enemies show up while you are still repairing it, disengage from the generator and take care of the enemies; after that, you can finish up the repairs. -=- Objective 3: Hack the Vault Controls Head back over to the Command Post and switch to the Operative class. After that, head back towards your spawn area and ascend the stairs to the second level, then up to the third level. From the third level, you can jump over the top of the stairs and right on top of the objective. Begin hacking it and move around while you hack it; moving around will help you to watch for incoming enemies, and will also make you a moving target for anyone that shoots at you. If any enemies approach you, switch out to your SMG and spray them down; you can then resume the hacking process. -=- Objective 4: Deliver the Intel After hacking the safe, the Intel appears inside the building that the Command Post is in. To get to it, you have to climb up on the top of the roof and drop down inside. The best way to do this without getting shot (too much) is to climb up the box that is right next to the Command Post, then climb onto the lower level roof; after that, climb onto the box at the front of the building, then climb up to the very top and drop down. After you grab the Intel inside, a door will open, which lets you out. Now that you have the Intel briefcase, run over to the staircase and climb up to the second level. After that, climb up another staircase to the third level. On the third level is where the objective drop-off point is. Make your way over to it along the walkways; if you see an enemy close to the objective location, take him out with your assault rifle. When the area looks clear, go ahead and insert the Intel; this doesn't take very long. -=- Your Computer Allies The main purpose of your computer allies is to serve as a distraction. Don't worry about helping them in battles, they will constantly respawn and can take care of themselves. You are the only one that can complete objectives on your team, so you need to concentrate on that. === Be More Objective 1 Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5146261 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Obj2] Be More Objective 2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Max Character Level: 3 Character Abilities: Battle Hardened Combat Intuition Sense of Perspective -=- Objective 1: Plant HE Charge When the mission starts, immediately begin running up the left side of the map and plant the explosive charge. Head up the staircase there to the second level, then head up the next staircase to the third level. In the middle of the map on the third level is the next objective, which is the generator. Approach it from your side of the center railing, and start repairing it if there are no enemies around. If there are enemies on the third level, you will need to fend them off before you can start repairing. If your team members are up there with you, they can help and make clearing the enemy out much easier. Start repairing as soon as you see the opportunity, but don't hesitate to stop if you think you are about to be shot at. -=- Objective 3: Hack the Vault Controls Head back over to the Command Post and switch to the Operative class. The hacking objective is located in front of the Command Post structure, which is convenient (or is it?). This is a very dangerous location that is easy for the enemy to shoot at and disarm. Before you attempt to do any hacking on the objective, you will need to secure the area of enemies; so start clearing them out with the help of your team members. Once it looks like there is a lull in the combat and that your computer allies can distract the enemy long enough, start hacking the objective. More than likely, you will not be able to complete the hacking in one try, because enemies will show up to interrupt you. When they do show up, pull out your weapons again and repeat the process of fending off their attack. Start to hack the objective again when there is another lull in the combat. Now that you have the Intel briefcase, run over towards your spawn area and climb up the staircase to the second level. After that, go ahead and climb up to the third level as well. Once you reach the top of the staircase, the objective drop-off point will be to your right. If any enemies are up here with you, kill them before you drop-off the Intel. -=- Your Computer Allies The main purpose of your computer allies is to serve as a distraction. Don't worry about helping them in battles, they will constantly respawn and can take care of themselves. You are the only one that can complete objectives on your team, so you need to concentrate on that. Your team members' purpose of being a distraction is further reinforced in the harder difficulty levels, because many more enemies appear than in the first difficulty level. === Be More Objective 2 Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5148052 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Obj3] Be More Objective 3 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Max Character Level: 3 Character Abilities: Battle Hardened Combat Intuition Sense of Perspective -=- Objective 1: Plant HE Charge When the mission starts, head out into the room and turn right, towards the objective in the middle of the map; you need to be quick when doing this, so sprint the whole way. As you get closer to the objective, throw a random grenade over the top; maybe it will hit an enemy, maybe it won't. Immediately start planting the explosive charge. After you plant it, back off and take cover behind the stacked crates. Start shooting at enemies with your assault rifle, with closer enemies being the higher priority. If an enemy tries to disarm the explosive charge, throw a Molotov cocktail at him then finish him off with bullets. === Be More Objective 3 (Part 1) Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5148847 -=- Objective 2: Repair the Generator After changing to the Engineer class, turn 90 degrees to your right and head up the stairs in front of you to the second level. After that, head up the stairs again to the third level. Once at the top of the stairs, continue down the pathway through the middle of the level to the opposite side. When you reach the far side, head down the stairs. You will now be right next to the repair objective. There is something you should know about this spot that will make completing the objective much easier: when facing the objective, if you go to the left there is a small box. If you crouch behind this box, the computer-controlled enemies will not be able to see you unless they are to your right. Using this small box like this will allow you to get away from bad situations and remain close to the objective. If there are enemies close to the objective, kill them first. When the area around the objective is reasonably secure, go ahead and start repairing. If the situation starts to become dangerous while you are repairing, then stop the repair and jump back behind the small box. After you regain your health (if you got hit), you can come back out and start to pick off enemies. Once the area is clear again, finish the repair objective. === Be More Objective 3 (Part 2) Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5148902 -=- Objective 3: Hack the Vault Controls The hacking objective is on the third floor, so move up two sets of stairs to the top. The objective is in a corner near a set of stairs, which is on the enemy's side of the map. Sprint over to the objective and kill any nearby enemies. After the area is clear, head over to the objective, plant the hacking device, and start hacking. While you are hacking, move back and forth to make yourself a moving target; also keep an eye on the nearby stairs, because this is the most likely spot that enemies will attack you from. If you see an enemy ascending the stairs, quickly pull out your SMG and take him out. === Be More Objective 3 (Part 3) Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5149062 -=- Objective 4: Deliver the Intel Facing opposite of the hacking objective, head down the right pathway (past the nearby stairs). At the second to last left turn will be a spot that you can drop into a building; this is where the Intel briefcase is. Grab the Intel, exit the room, and start sprinting towards the staircase to the second level on your team's side of the map. Run up to the third level, take a right at the top of the staircase, and drop off the Intel. If you do this fast enough, there should be no enemies up there to deal with. === Be More Objective 3 (Part 4) Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5149159 -=- Your Computer Allies The main purpose of your computer allies is to serve as a distraction. Before you do this though, you may want to lay down your mine somewhere in front of one of the doors. Also, be sure that you activate your Engineer damage buff to make taking down the enemies easier. -=- Enemy Spawns Enemies will spawn from the doors with flashing lights above them, with three enemies spawning at a time. They will always spawn in front of the bot and will never spawn behind the bot. -=- Escorting the Bot In order to make the bot move forward, you have to be close to it. The bot can take damage from the enemy, but it will not die; if it loses its full health bar, it will become disabled. In its disabled state it cannot move until you repair it, which will allow it to move again and give it a full health bar. -=- Taking Cover When escorting the bot, stay behind it for cover; never escort it from the front. Even though you are trying to protect the bot, it's okay if it takes damage since you can just repair it. The bot is your best cover on this map, because it will always be with you. -=- Fighting Back When enemies spawn, watch their movement from behind the bot. If they are clustered together, you can toss a grenade at them. When an enemy stops moving, move out from behind the bot and quickly pick him off with your assault rifle. After you do that, dive back behind the bot. Repeat this tactic until all enemies are dead. -=- The Command Post About halfway through the challenge course, you'll see a Command Post; this is a deliberate design in the challenge, because it is around this time that you should be running low on ammo. In between enemy waves, go capture the Command Post. After a couple of additional enemy waves, run back and refill your ammo again before you get too far away from it; this should last you until the end of the challenge. === Escort Duty 1 Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5147581 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Esc2] Escort Duty 2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Max Character Level: 1 Character Abilities: Battle Hardened -=- Difficulty Increase Differences The main difference between the first difficulty level and the two higher difficulty levels are the number of times the enemy spawns and the frequency with which they spawn. In other words, the enemies will spawn a greater number of times and will spawn faster. However, each door will still only spawn three enemies at a time. -=- The Opening Plant & Buff Before repairing the bot to start the challenge, go plant a mine in front of one of the doors. Also, use your Engineer Damage Buff. -=- The Cover Bot Enemies will spawn with less time in between spawns, so using the bot as cover will be crucial to your survival. Always hide behind the bot when you need to reload and always hide behind the bot when cooking a grenade. When escorting the bot and waiting for the next door to open, stand behind the bot and not in front of it. -=- Assault Rifle vs. SMG Always start out using your assault rifle and pick off the enemies from a distance; you will want to keep the bullets in your SMG's magazine fully loaded so that you can whip it out and start spraying down enemies if they get close. -=- Repair & Cover If you are waiting for your health to regenerate, go ahead and repair the bot a little bit while you are waiting (if it is disabled). If the bot is disabled and there is only one enemy out, repair the bot; you can swing around as the single enemy moves around, keeping the bot in between you and him. -=- The Command Post You will reach the Command Post around the time that you need more bullets, so capture it in between enemy waves when you get near it (or when only one enemy remains). When you are getting farther away from the Command Post, make sure you reload a second time so that you have enough ammo for the end of the challenge. === Escort Duty 2 Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5148568 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Esc3] Escort Duty 3 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Max Character Level: 1 Character Abilities: Battle Hardened -=- Serious Business Being that this is the hardest difficulty, you can expect to have quite the fight ahead of you. With that said though, the only difference between this difficulty level and earlier difficulty levels is the number of times the enemy spawns and the frequency with which they spawn: they spawn in greater numbers and they spawn much faster. However, each door does still only spawn three enemies at a time. -=- Don't Forget... Before repairing the bot to start the challenge, go lay a mine down in front of a door. Also activate your Engineer Damage Buff, so that the enemies fall quickly when you shoot them. -=- Bot Equals Cover The bot is your main source of cover throughout the challenge. When escorting the bot, you should be behind it at all times, because doors always open in front of the bot, not behind the bot. This will give you a natural advantage over your enemies, and considering the amount of enemies you will be fighting, you'll need every advantage you can get. -=- When the lights start flashing... When the light above a door starts flashing, you need to be ready behind the bot. If the door is farther off away from the bot, have your assault rifle out; if the door is within SMG range, have the SMG out. Have a grenade ready to throw when a door's light is flashing and throw it when you see two or more enemies close together; this is convenient to do since you have the bot to take cover behind. === Escort Duty 3 (Part 1) Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5149382 -=- The Convenient Command Post As mentioned before, you get near the Command Post right about when your ammo starts running low. The third difficulty level can make capturing it a little tricky (because the enemy spawns are so frequent), but if you kill the enemies quickly enough you can create a long enough lull in the fighting to capture the Command Post. Before or after you capture, try to place a mine in front of the Command Post if the opportunity presents itself. After you initially visit the Command Post and refill your ammo, you will need to visit it one or two more additional times before you get too far away from it; this will help to ensure that you have enough ammo to last until the end of the challenge. -=- The Same Intensity The intensity and frequency of the enemy spawns doesn't get much harder than you have seen thus far, so if you've been doing well up to this point then you should be able to keep on doing well. Just remember to stick to your cover behind the bot, use grenades when the enemy is clustered, and make smart use of your assault rifle and SMG depending on the distances involved. -=- Respawning Don't worry if you die and need to respawn, it won't play a huge part in your ability to complete this challenge. Right when you respawn, use your Engineer Damage Buff ability, then start sprinting back towards the bot. -=- The Tampa! If you are having a tough time with this mission, I highly recommend that you switch to the Tampa SMG for your secondary (if you haven't already). It is valuable for the situation presented in this challenge for one simple reason: it has the fastest reload time out of all the SMGs in the game. Having a fast reload speed is an incredible asset when trying to beat this challenge on the hardest difficulty. === Escort Duty 3 (Part 2) Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5149577 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Tow1] Tower Defense 1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Max Character Level: 2 Character Abilities: Battle Hardened Combat Intuition -=- Starting the Challenge Before you activate the challenge by capturing the Command Post, go plant a mine at the base of one of the two staircases. At first the enemies will spawn from one door at a time, then two doors at a time, then three doors at a time. -=- An enemy captured the Command Post! Don't worry if an enemy manages to capture the Command Post, because the game will give you 30 seconds to capture it back. Just kill the guy that captured it and you can easily take it back into your possession. -=- The First is the Easiest On the first difficulty level, the enemies only come through the doors one at a time. If you've played Brink for any amount of time thus far, this challenge should be no sweat for you. === Tower Defense 1 Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5147703 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Tow2] Tower Defense 2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Max Character Level: 2 Character Abilities: Battle Hardened Combat Intuition -=- The Opening Before capturing the Command Post, plant a mine at the base of the stairs. -=- Differences in Difficulty The second Tower Defense challenge is more difficult for one reason: instead of each door spawning one enemy, they now spawn two enemies at a time. This can make the later spawns much more difficult when two and three doors are opening at the same time. -=- Spinning Around the Command Post When searching for the next door(s) that will open, a good technique to use is to walk around the Command Post, eyeing the lights above each door as you go around. This is especially useful to do when two and three doors start opening at the same time, because you will need to quickly identify which doors are opening so you know the different directions the enemy will come from. -=- Get Ammo Frequently Make it a habit to always access the Command Post in between spawns rounds, because this will ensure that you never run out of ammo. -=- No time to plant mines? Sometimes there isn't enough time to run downstairs and plant mines, so you'll have to plant them upstairs. Try to plant it in a location that you know your back will be turned to. -=- Grenade Throwing On the rounds with two and three doors opening at a time, it will be a good idea to start throwing a grenade for each of the first doors that open. If you hit all the enemies as they walk out of the doorway, it will allow you to quickly finish them off and concentrate on the next door. === Tower Defense 2 Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5148780 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Tow3] Tower Defense 3 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Max Character Level: 2 Character Abilities: Battle Hardened Combat Intuition -=- The Opening Before capturing the Command Post to start the challenge, go lay down a mine at the base of a staircase. Then activate your Engineer Damage Buff and proceed to capture the Command Post. -=- The Single Doors The first rounds of enemy waves will spawn from single doors, with three enemies spawning per door. Compared to what you will be facing later in the challenge, this is easy stuff. When you identify the door that is about to open (the flashing light), pull your assault rifle out, aim down the sight in the general direction of the door (or even better, right down the inside of the door), and get ready to mow down the enemies as they run through. -=- Free Ammo Refills! Between each of these rounds, get in the habit of visiting the Command Post for an ammo refill. You do not really need to do this for the single door rounds, but you need to get your brain wired for this so you remember to do it during the double door and triple door rounds; especially so for the triple door rounds, where there is a real danger of running low on ammo if you haven't been refilling it regularly. -=- To Lay or Not to Lay? On the hardest difficulty, I pretty much forgo any attempt at trying to lay mines because it takes too long. You can probably regularly lay mines against the single door rounds, but it isn't worth it to lay mines when the double door and triple door rounds start. By then, you will be too busy visiting the Command Center in between each round, as well as trying to identify where all the doors are that are about to be opened. === Tower Defense 3 (Part 1) Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5149701 -=- Identification of Flashing Lights When the later rounds start, you will need to be able to quickly identify all of the doors that are about to open; doing so will allow you to predict which directions enemies will come from while your back is turned and you are focused on the first or second doors. A good technique for quickly looking around the room is to circle around the Command Post; this will give you a quick 360 degree view of all the doors in the room. You don't need to look for open doors, just look for the flashing lights. -=- The Double Doors Things start to get "interesting" when the double door rounds start. For the first door, you will want to toss a grenade out at the enemies right as they move into view. Throwing grenades at the first door is crucial, because it softens up the enemies' health bars and makes them easier to finish off with your assault rifle. Keep in mind that the second door spawn is probably already on their way by the time you start shooting your assault rifle off, so look for any small opportunity to check in that direction. -=- The Triple Threat This will be a challenge, but it is definitely doable. Just as with the double door spawns, you will want to toss a grenade at the first group of enemies inside the first door; as mentioned before, you need to do this so that their health bars are softened up so that you can quickly finish them off with bullets. After that's done, quickly focus your attention on the second door and its spawned enemies, because they might already be very close to your position. By the time you get in the middle of fighting the second group of enemies, the third group of enemies from the third door will have spawned and may already be involved in the fight. This is where it gets tricky. If the enemies manage to ascend both sets of stairs at the same time, you are going to be at serious risk of dying; you want to prevent that from happening at all costs. To do that, you will need to keep enemies suppressed on both sets of stairs. This involves going to one side, shooting at any visible enemies until they retreat, then immediately moving to the other side and doing the same; you'll repeat this a few times until the state of the situation moves back under your control. Do not chase enemies down the stairs to the ground level if you know there is another group moving towards the middle platform! Not only is this dangerous for you, but it also risks the enemy capturing the Command Post if you stay at ground level for too long. If multiple enemies manage to rush up both sides of the stairs at the same time, you will need to do two things simultaneously. First, kill the enemy that is closest to you with your SMG; while you are doing that, move behind the Command Post and use it as cover against the enemy on the opposite side. The idea behind doing these two tasks at the same time is that it will isolate the enemies and prevent them from ganging up on you. Situations are not always perfect, so you may not always be able to do this maneuver, but use your best judgment to do what you can. If things get really desperate on top, you may even want to consider jumping off the middle area and swinging around to flank the enemies from behind. Doing this does expose the Command Post and take you off of the high ground, but it may be your only option if the alternative is dying to a hail of bullets. -=- Respawning If you should die and be forced to respawn, the enemy will more than likely take the opportunity to capture the Command Post. When the enemy captures the Command Post, you have exactly 30 seconds to get it back into your hands. If the Command Post is captured, you need to quickly assess the situation and act fast: first take out all the enemies on top of the middle platform, then any enemies on the upper pathways. Take a glance down each of the stairs while doing this and shoot any enemies you see; if the enemies on the ground level seem more interested in hiding than fighting, then toss a grenade down at them and let them continue to hide. After all of that (which you should only take a few seconds to do), you can start to re-capture the Command Post. If you start getting fired upon, ignore it and continue the capture process; you need to capture the Command Post soon or you will lose the mission. Don't forget to activate the Engineer Damage Buff right as you respawn, because the extra damage will help you to quickly clear out all of the enemies. -=- The Tampa! If you are having a tough time with this challenge, I highly recommend that you switch to the Tampa SMG for your secondary (if you haven't already). It is valuable for the situation presented in this challenge for one simple reason: it has the fastest reload time out of all the SMGs in the game. Having a fast reload speed is an incredible asset when trying to beat this challenge on the hardest difficulty. === Tower Defense 3 (Part 2) Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5149905 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [VID!] Video Appendix ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----====SECURITY====---- -=- Mission 1: Hostage Rescue Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5128470 -=- Mission 2, Part 1: Smash & Grab Video Guide Link: http://blip.tv/file/5128971 -
