Welcome to a rather short walkthrough for a rather short Xbox 360 game. History Channel: Battle For The Pacific is an FPS where you play an American soldier during the second world war. You'll get to take out a lot of enemy soldiers, and bring glory to the United States of America. To be honest, I'm not really a big fan of this game, but whatever, I felt like writing something, and saw this game sitting on my shelf. What's strange about this one, is that the game isn't really that much of a "game". It's got some nice TV-style documentary clips, but that's about it. It's a budget title, after all. The guide will lead you through the whole single player campaign, holding your hand from the very beginning, to the end. There's only 10 levels in this game, but three difficulty settings means that some people will find it entertaining to go through the game at least a couple of times. I think so, at least. Please do not that this is only a single player guide, and does not provide in-depth strategies for multiplayer battles that you can experience on Xbox Live. That's pretty much all I wanted to say. So, enjoy playing. =============================================================================== Controls [be02] =============================================================================== o-------------------------------o-------------------------------o | CONTROLLER INPUT | EFFECT | |-------------------------------|-------------------------------| | Left analog | Move, crouch | +-------------------------------+-------------------------------+ | Right analog | Look | +-------------------------------+-------------------------------+ | Left trigger (LT) | Aim | +-------------------------------+-------------------------------+ | Right trigger (RT) | Fire | +-------------------------------+-------------------------------+ | Left shoulder button (LB) | Change weapon | +-------------------------------+-------------------------------+ | Right shoulder button (RB) | Throw grenade | +-------------------------------+-------------------------------+ | A | Jump | +-------------------------------+-------------------------------+ | B | Melee attack | +-------------------------------+-------------------------------+ | X | Reload | +-------------------------------+-------------------------------+ | Y | Use/action | +-------------------------------+-------------------------------+ | Start | Pause | +-------------------------------+-------------------------------+ | Back | View current tasks | o-------------------------------o-------------------------------o =============================================================================== Frequently Asked Questions [be03] =============================================================================== Q: How many missions are there in this game? A: 10 short ones. Q: My soldier friends get stuck all the time! What should I do? A: Try killing all the enemies nearby, and they'll often start running again. Q: Do I really have to follow my soldier friends? I want to explore! A: In most cases, you don't get the chance, since most tasks depend on you following your soldier friends. Q: Do some multiplayer strategies, please! A: Won't happen. Q: How long is the singleplayer campaign? A: Not longer than three hours. Probably much shorter. Q: Is this game super hard? A: No, not at all. It's actually more of a documentary than a challenging game. Q: What's the difference between the three difficulty settings? A: Harder difficulty means that you take more damage per hit. Q: I run out of ammo all the time! What to do? A: Pick up a weapon dropped by an enemy. Do so by holding the Y button. =============================================================================== Wake Island [wa01] =============================================================================== Work your way through the few options in the menu that appears when you turn on the game, and start a new savegame. Choose the NORMAL difficulty setting for a decent, but not too extreme challenge. The first mission is set at Wake Island only hours after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. One of your mates tells you to go find the piece that is missing from his radio station. FIND THE MISSING PIECES OF THE RADIO STATION -------------------------------------------- There are three missing radio pieces that you need to find. Right now, there is only one way you can go, so equip your Thompson M1 using LB and start running through the trenches, following the small square-formed icon that appears. It will lead you to the first missing piece, then to the two others. After the first piece, two enemies will attack, so shoot them down. Once you have all three pieces, go back to your mate. Let him operate the radio, and wait for another friend to appear. Follow him when he asks you to. When he stops in front of an explosion, take cover behind the barrels on your left, and kill the Japanese soldiers on the other side. Now continue following your running mate! Keep an eye on the ground above the trench walls, as some new Japanese soldiers will try and jump down into the trench from up there. Kill them before they get the chance. After a short while, you and your mate will meet a barricade where some allies have mounted a machine gun. Press Y to use it. USE THE MOUNTED MACHINE-GUN --------------------------- Shoot at the Japanese that come running towards your mounted position. Once you've killed enough people, your mate will tell you to follow him again. Press Y to exit the Machine-Gun mode, and follow him. The Thompson weapon is still a good choice; use it to shoot down the enemies that appear in your way. After a while you are likely to run out of ammo though, and when that happens, pick up a Japanese Machine-Gun by holding the Y button while standing close to one that has dropped from a dead enemy. Now keep on following that mate of yours. He's kinda fast, but so are you. Your mate will eventually take you back to the mounted gun, where you need to take down a second wave of enemies. Afterwards, follow him again. You will have to make your way through some big groups of enemies. In those situations, just hit RB to throw a grenade at them. Works wonders. The next thing that happens, is that you'll find a huge anti-air gun. Press Y use it. SHOOT DOWN THE ENEMY AIRPLANES ------------------------------ This is a very easy task. Just keep on looking up in the sky, and start shooting at any airplanes that approach your position. It's almost impossible to fail at this, as the planes don't really hit you when they "attack". Just keep on shooting them down until your mate tells you to move. STOP THE ADVANCING ENEMIES -------------------------- As before, follow your friend, and take down any enemies in your way. The best cover you have will be the trench walls, so make sure to get behind them when you need to reload. You don't want the enemies to hit you when you don't have any bullets. You'll eventually reach a point where many allies have taken cover behind some barrels. Do the same as them, and kill all of the enemies on the other side of the barrels (hold LT to aim properly). That's it for the first mission -- you won! =============================================================================== Bataan [wa02] =============================================================================== CLEAR THE BEACH AREA -------------------- You're being ambushed at the beach! Duck behind the crates nearby, and hold LT to aim at the enemies that are coming towards you. Try hitting their heads with your shots, as head shots are of course.. very lethal. After killing them all, you'll get a new task. PROCEED THROUGH THE JUNGLE -------------------------- Equip your Thompson gun before starting to follow your mates. Now follow them, and run through the jungle as fast as you can. The reason for using the Thompson weapon is that many Japanese will attack in the jungle, and a fast weapon is recommended in that kind of situation. There's not a lot of cover in the jungle, so kill the enemies before they kill you. One of your mates will soon tell you to try and establish radio contact with Piathong Village. ESTABLISH RADIO CONTACT WITH THE VILLAGE ---------------------------------------- It's not really you that has to work on getting radio contact with the village; your mate will do everything for you. Just follow him, and when he stops, protect him from the enemies that attack. There's not more than five of them, and they're all standing behind a tree straight in front of where your mate stops. Just kill them all, and follow your mate back to the others once he's done with his radio work. Piece of cake. FIGHT YOUR WAY TO THE VILLAGE ----------------------------- See that bridge in front of you? Get behind the truck on that bridge, and pop out of cover to kill the enemies on the other side with your Machine-Gun. Your mates will now start following you. One mate stops you, and tells you to search for mines that the Japanese might have placed on the ground. DEFUSE THE MINES ---------------- Just follow the tiny square icon that just appeared on the screen, but look at the ground. You'll find some mines on the ground, marked by red circles. Approach them carefully, and press Y to defuse them all. There's 11 mines in all, and they're all on the ground, very close to each other. After clearing the mines, just follow your mates into the village that lies just ahead. DEFEND THE CONVOY ----------------- Take cover behind the barricade near the village gate, hold LT to aim, and take down all the enemies that come running towards the village. Your mates will help you, making this a rather easy task. Mission complete, eat a banana! =============================================================================== Guadalcanal I [wa03] =============================================================================== CLEAR THE LANDING ZONE ---------------------- You and a handful of friends are hanging around at some kind of landing zone. Tons of Japanese suddenly appear, and you have to take them all out. It's not smart to run straight into the enemies, as there's more enemies than the ones you can see at the very beginning. Stay at distance, and aim well, shooting down the enemies you can see. Once they're all dead, a new batch of baddies will show up. Do the same stuff all over again until the second batch had been defeated. FIND THE ENEMY ARTILLERY POSITION --------------------------------- Follow your mates now, into the jungle! Let them lead the way, and take down any enemies that appear. Just like in the first mission, grenades are great for taking out large groups of bad guys. There's three such groups. Follow your mates until you see three weird machines. These are the Japanese artillery weapons! Approach all three of them, and press Y to place explosives on them. The artillery will blow up, and you will get to continue. Madness. PROCEED TO HENDERSON FIELD -------------------------- Get back into the jungle again, following your mates. Shoot all the Japanese you see. After running across a river, you'll see Henderson Field, but there's lots of enemies here. Equip your Thompson, and clear the area. Proceed towards the square icon on your screen, in order to find an anti-air gun. Throw a grenade at the enemies guarding the AA gun, then press Y to use it. Shoot down all of the airplanes that are circling around above you. Once all the planes are done for, exit the AA gun, and kill off a last group of Japanese soldiers that are rushing the base. Nice. Henderson Field is now yours. =============================================================================== Guadalcanal II [wa04] =============================================================================== CLEAR THE AIRFIELD OF ENEMY PRESENCE ------------------------------------ Equip your Garand M1, and take cover behind one of the planes on the airfield. Japanese soldiers will soon start attacking you, so aim steady, and do some head shots. Or.. do many head shots -- kill 'em all. It's smart to take them out quickly, as they won't start shooting at you before they get real close to your position. So, be fast on the trigger. No matter what you do though, the airfield does get Zerged by the Japanese, and your next task will be to retreat to a safe position, along with your friends. RETREAT TO A SAFE POSITION -------------------------- Your mates run into the jungle, and you need to follow them. Run backwards, and shoot at any Japanese that try to follow you. The last group of followers will attack you just after you've crossed a small river. Now just follow your mates until you are back at the place where you blew up the artillery earlier. HOLD THE POSITION ----------------- Hide behind the sand bag blockade, and wait for the enemies to attack. Shoot them all -- don't let them get through. If it gets real tough, use a couple of grenades to blow the bad guys up. After two waves of Japanese attackers, a group of allies will come to your aid. With lots of new blood in your troop, you're ready to take back the airfield. It's quite a distance, but if you want to complete this mission, you need to run all the way back to where you escaped from. So, do that. Now! PROTECT THE RADIO MAN --------------------- The engineer in your group needs protection once you reach the airfield. He'll get marked with a small, red circle, so just follow him around and kill everyone that gets close to him. Not allies that get close to him, though -- only enemies. Once the engineer has called for backup, the mission is completed. Congratulations, soldier. =============================================================================== Leyte I [wa05] =============================================================================== CLEAR THE LANDING ZONE ---------------------- You'll find yourself at a beach. You'll have to clear all the enemies here before the second wave of allies arrives. Follow the soldier that is marked with a square-formed icon, and shoot at the Japanese turrets, killing the soldiers that are using them. When the turret soldiers are dead, you'll find yourself at the beginning of some trenches. Get in there, and kill everyone in there. It's important that you're actually following your friend (the marked soldier) while doing this, so that you don't fail because of not following orders. Anyway, follow your mate until he tells you to defuse the mines in front of you. Do so using the Y button, then continue following him. CLEAR THE TRENCHES ------------------ After defusing those mines, just follow your mate and help him kill all the enemies that are left in the trenches. This takes quite a bit of time, but as long as you remember to use a fast weapons (Type 100 or Thompson) and take cover behind trench walls, it will be a smooth job. The mission ends after you've killed all the enemies in the trench. They're not hidden or anything, so just keep on taking them down until there's no one left. =============================================================================== Leyte II [wa06] =============================================================================== ADVANCE TOWARDS THE SUPPLY DEPOT -------------------------------- Quite simply, what you need to do is to fight your way through the jungle, towards the enemy supply depot. Start out with your rifle; save the Thompson until later. There's not a lot of places to take cover, so aim and shoot quickly when you see an enemy. Continue doing this until the game tells you to take down some ambushers. These guys are actually right behind you, so turn around and use your Thompson to wipe them out quickly. Fight your way through the jungle now, until you reach the enemy supply depot. CLEAR THE AREA OF ENEMY PRESENCE -------------------------------- You'll see the supply depot from a hill. Before running down to the depot, use your rifle to take out the guards in the depot's towers. When the tower guards have been killed, it's much safer to run down to the depot, and kill the enemies down there with your Thompson. When they're all dead, you get a new task. SABOTAGE THE SUPPLY BUILDINGS ----------------------------- There are three supply buildings in the depot area. They're all marked with red circles, so they're easy to find. Approach them all, and use the Y button to place explosives on each building. Now run away, and watch them blow up. BOOM, mission complete. =============================================================================== Luzon [wa07] =============================================================================== GET TO THE RENDEZVOUS POINT --------------------------- The plan here is to team up with another group of soldiers that are waiting somewhere in the jungle. However, there have been reports of enemy snipers, so things aren't all that nice. At the very beginning, there are three snipers just above you, marked with square-formed icons. Aim well, and take them out, one after another. Follow your allies until you reach a river. Here, you will be ambushed by enemies coming from behind. So, turn around once you see that river, and kill the attackers. TAKE OUT THE ARTILLERY POSITIONS -------------------------------- When this task pops up on the screen, you'll be close to a small enemy base with two artillery guns. Take out the soldiers guarding them, and use the Y button to place explosives on the two artillery guns. Now run away, and wait for them to go totally BOOM. Follow your mates again, and you will reach another base. Use your Garand rifle to take out the soldiers using the turrets in this base. There's two of them, close to the very middle of the base. When those two area dead, the rest of the enemies won't be a huge challenge to deal with. That's it -- now you should just follow your friends until you see the other group of allied soldiers. =============================================================================== Iwo Jima I [wa08] =============================================================================== SECURE THE LANDING AREA ----------------------- One of the soldiers tells you to follow him at the beginning of this mission. Do so -- keep right behind him all the time, and pick up the Trench Gun close to the dead soldier you'll pass close to the very beginning. When the two of you see a pillbox, throw a grenade into in in order to kill the enemies in there. Now follow your friend into the trench, and use the Trench Gun to blow up all the enemies in there. Once the trenches have been cleaned out, it's time to concentrate on killing some sniper baddies. TAKE OUT ALL ENEMY SNIPERS -------------------------- Your friend will lead you to the snipers. There's only three of them, and they're not really snipers, just normal soldiers shooting at you from the ground above the trench path. Kill the three soldiers, and follow your friend, continuing to clean the other trenches of enemy soldiers. After a while, you'll meet a couple of allied soldiers. TAKE OUT THE ARTILLERY POSITION ------------------------------- You know the drill by now; just follow your mates. They'll lead you to the two artillery guns that you need to place explosives on. Keep on following your mates afterwards, until you get a new task. SECURE THE UNDERGROUND PASSAGE ------------------------------ There's tons of enemies in this area, but by keeping your distance, you'll be just fine. Use LT to aim with your rifle, and take the enemies down. Don't rush this, but take your time. You're guaranteed to bite the dust if you rush straight towards all the baddies, as there's LOTS of them. When most of them are dead, follow your mate into the cave that the baddies were guarding. =============================================================================== Iwo Jima II [wa09] =============================================================================== SECURE THE ENTRANCE AREA ------------------------ You're in the caves of Iwo Jima now, and you need to secure the entrance area. This job won't take long -- just kill a small wave of attackers. Afterwards, you need to cut a communications wire that runs through the cave system. CUT THE WIRE ------------ Follow the friendly soldier marked with a red circle, and help him take out all the enemies he runs into. After a while you will find the wire hanging in the roof, just after crossing a small bridge. Hit the Y button to cut the wire. Follow your friend back to the cave entrance, and help him clean out another room filled with bad guys. To proceed after this, you must find some electric generator parts. FIND THE MISSING GENERATOR PARTS -------------------------------- See that red circle that suddenly popped up on your screen? Follow it until you see a ledge above you. Use the A button to jump up on the nearby crates, and from the top of the crates, jump up on that ledge. Now continue following the red circle deeper into the cave. You'll find the first generator part. Now head back to your mate, and follow him again, assisting him with killing enemies. You'll find the second (last) generator part now, in a big room! After grabbing it, jump back up to your mate, and follow him back to where the generator is. He leads the way, as always. ELIMINATE RESISTANCE AT THE HOSPITAL/SEIZE CONTROL CENTER --------------------------------------------------------- Once you've activated the generator, a door opens. It leads into a hospital area. Kill all the enemies in here, and follow your friends to the control center, where you just have to kill a couple of enemies to complete the mission. Only one mission left now. I'm kinda tired of this game already, so that's not something I'm sad about, though! =============================================================================== Iwo Jima III [wa10] =============================================================================== GET TO THE TOP OF IWO JIMA, TAKE OUT TURRET POSITIONS ----------------------------------------------------- The last mission is very simple in all ways. You start at the bottom of a path, and need to take out four turret positions that you'll run into before reaching the top. To take out a turret position, just throw a grenade behind the turret. When you're close to the top of Iwo Jima, you'll start getting attacked by soldiers shooting at you from ledges on your right side. You need to kill all of these soldiers before continuing to the top, so use LT as always, in order to aim carefully, shooting every single soldier attacking from above. There really isn't more to this final mission that this -- it's very short and straight-forward. Once you reach the top, watch the ending sequence. You're done now. =============================================================================== Contact Me [en01] =============================================================================== If you have suggestions, comments or questions related to my work, please feel free to drop me a quick heads up using one of the methods below.
