This is a thread where the ones of us who read novels can recommend our novel of choice and ask for recommendations on novels within our genres of choice.

Feel free to put forward good authors you know of for us to research, and maybe a favorite work from them you recommend.

I'm partial to fantasy novels and sci-fi novels.

My current fix is Blood of Elves by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, translated to English and released in the U.S. in late 2009, with the United Kingdom printing being available in 2009 as well.

Blood of Elves is the first novel in the series involving Geralt of Rivia, also known as The Witcher. Geralt is a professional monster slayer of the order of Witchers, whom are trained with blades and magick, and genetically modified and mutated during the course of their training in The Trials of the Grasses, of which he is the only survivor of the final third stage of mutations.

I highly recommend this novel not only because of the deep story, but also because of the detail put forward that draws you in without being too overly extensive and boring (No, he doesn't spend 5 pages on how a fire looks or some such, just enough detail to draw you in without distracting you from the rest).

Even though I'm only about 60 pages in, I can already say that this novel is worth a very solid 4 stars.
    Yo.

this is an amazing idea foxxie *high fives*

anyways, i just pick up books at the store that sounds interesting.. so i dont really have a genre i could give

recntly i finished off scott westerfield's uglies series. it was a very good series. it's set waywayway into the future, and everything is really hightech and when you turn sixteen, you get to have an operation that makes you pretty. (it sounds alot like a girly shallow book, but its truly amazing, you just have to read it.) i'd give the series an 8/10

i've begun wuthering heights now. i've been meaning to read it for a long time. does anyone know if its any good?

I absolutely hated reading Wuthering Heights. I havent even looked at it for 4 years. yuck.

I read books that're about "fictional" things like Fey existence, and books that somehow relate to stories and ideas like that. All of the books have all of the same background knowledge. How fake could hey really be?

Anyways, series' that I just read would be: The Mortal Instruments, The Last Apprentice (still waiting for number seven), The Spiderwick Chronicles, and I read a book called Chronicles of Nick: Infinity (hopefully the start of a full series)

The last book I read (which I also bought) was "The Hunt for Red October" by Tom Clancy.

It deals with the military and a lot of politics. It's not a fast paced action story, more of a drawn out elaborate thriller. I really liked it, I'm definitely gonna buy more Clancy novels.
I don't want a big car, particularly. I have no need for acreage, and I don't like the fuel bills. But I don't want a small one because they're all like supermarket own-brand cola: weedy imitations of the real thing - Jeremy Clarkson

    /--\ - Lance Corporal

    Petrol Heads - High Roller

Woo another one of these handy threads

Current Fav Author: David Gemmell - RIP

Current Fav book of his: "Winter Warriors" - This changes a lot, hes written so many good ones

If you're going to try him out, start off with "Dark Moon" or "Echos Of A Great Song" as they are not only excellent books, but one offs so you dont risk getting stuck in a trilogy you dont like - even though you'd have to be crazy not to like any of his books

Good things about his books: They are not overly long or too short. They are all they need to be and nothing more, nothing less. Characters are his strongest point, you really feel like they are a real person somewhere.

Well its been a while when I actually read a book!

    1) The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown: Superb storytelling. A gripping story, the suspense got me all over!

    2) The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho: Good book, but I don't remember anything about it. All I can say that its a journey of a shepard described in words.

    3) Harry Potter 7 (Last) by J.K.Rowling: Well nuff said.

And there were some Programming related books...And I know it will be unwise to mention the here...
