The drive has a strange connection, that the latest "kit" for flashing the drives does not support. The Mobo ROM also flashes the drive quickly on startup by checking via a checksum of the Drives' Rom chip, any changes flashed back again.

Doesn't really matter if shia knows how to hack it, he's not a hacker.
But as with everything made by a human, it's only as good as the person who made it. There's always a smarter or more resourceful person out there, someone will hack it eventually.
Not that I really care, I've never hacked a console. I'm to afraid to ruin a $500 console for a few free games.

I don't think it's worth the money.. Smaller size? I don't care. 250 GB Hard drive? That'd be cool but you'd have to download freakin everything to use it all. Quieter? I can't ever hear mine as it is. There you go, I just made the slim obsolete. :P
