We've all played a game that had something we either absolutely loved or hated with a passion. Something that you felt so strongly about it would affect your future game purchases.

Recently I've been trying to do all the Goal Attack races for Midnight Club Los Angeles. It's horrible; you have to come in first place, beat a set time, have less than 25% damage, and you have to do all that in one race. For anyone who's played a Midnight Club game you know that's just evil, especially in circuit races, which is all I have left.

I'll get an achievement for finishing it. The reason I'm trying is because I know it's doable, hard, but doable. And when I do make it through I'll make it my second game with 100% achievement completion. But if Rockstar has a Goal Attack achievement ever again I'm not buying that game, Goal Attack is my deal breaker.

So, what things ruin a game for you? Or on the other hand what things make a game for you? Things that are so important you simply won't buy a game without it.

what really ruins a game for me is an insane amount of difficulty right about when u're in for a clincher..for instance getting the 6th Assasin's Seal in AC2..i had nearly given up on getting it after about10 days of trying to get it. but i did..eventually.

i had a similar experience in a game which i truly loved from a long long time ago..System Shock 2 where u had to search all over the ship for these hidden access codes in these multi-layered paintings which u needed to activate a transmitter to send out a message. i got almost all the codes somehow..but i just couldn't find the last code. i agonized over it for weeks..finally i gave up. never did finish that game.

what makes a game for me a game like Mass Effect. a game that gets u involved..deeply because of the story..the music...the choices and their consequences. how real can it get for me..that's what makes a game for me.

I'm not one to complete every achievement so something as your example would not ruin a game for me...

I can't really think of anything in a game that "ruined it" for me. Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII will always be remembered by myself as one of the worst games I've ever played because every single mission was basically the same thing...over and over and over again...

Then on the other hand I can't think of things that "have to" be in a certain game in order for me to want to buy it...

I hate when games get to complicated.. simple = more fun. I've been playing a lot of indie games lately and they are so simple and fun you just get addicted.

Thinking of things you absolutely need can be pretty hard but I thought of one for myself, co-op in shooters. COD4 didn't have co-op and that kinda ruined it for me, I just can't manage to beat the whole thing on veteran on my own.

I won't be buying any more shooters unless they have co-op.

It's annoying when you get a game, play it all the way through, then get to the big bad boss at the very end, and it turns out to be a whole lot easier than some of the other bosses.
the game just leads up to a letdown.
i like the difficulty to increase as i get farther, not decrease.

EDIT: not necessarily a deal breaker, but it makes me soooo angry

lol yea I hate when big bosses are a let down. But I also hate when they're almost impossible too.

My most recent deal breaker was just the other day, I was almost ready to quit Red Dead Redemption because I couldn't shoot for peanuts and kept getting my ass shot off, but then when I was swinging my rifle around to shoot a wolf I accidentally shot my horse in the back of the head and killed it under me. I cracked up laughing at how bad I was at the game and all my annoyance vanished, and I persisted, now I can almost shoot straight. Thank you no-name dead horse, your mane was pretty and your tail swishy.
