Funny how all these different views apppear depending on what media people are listening to.
I watched a video released of the incident, it was recorded from another ship nearby, and it clearly shows Israeli commando's being attacked by people on the ship as they landed on deck. The people are weilding clubs or batons and it was not self defense as the commando's weren't even properly on their feet, let alone firing any weapons.
It was incredibly stupid to attack the commando's while saying you're part of a 'peaceful' mission.
It was unfortunate people got killed, but if that was their intent they would have just sunk the ship without boarding it, or killed everyone instead of around a dozen.
Israel commando's boarded the ship in international water, those people were entitled to resist the boarding.
Would you attack armed commandos with automatic weapons using 2by4s and pipes? Unless you want to die or you're incredibly stupid you wouldn't.
If I was one of those commandos I wouldn't think twice about pouring a clip into someone trying to bash my head in. I saw the video, they weren't even done roping down before a horde of people attacked them. Maybe if they hadn't instigated things they might still be alive. If there wasn't anything dangerous on the ship no one would have a reason to shoot. But no, they can't just stand there like civilized people, they have to go ahead and cause an international incident.
darwin action of the month? from israel? i doubt it..

i am not jewish and nor do i have any jewish family members but over the years it seems to me that anti semitism is alive and well. people rush to attack israel at a moment's notice. i don't think any of these people will be happy with ANYTHING israel does short of israel no longer existing.
it doesn't matter if you have video and audio of these 'charity' people building a nuke or cutting the head off of israeli soldiers... some people will never believe it's 'real' because they are blinded by hate.
israel rarely does things like this without a reason, and one thing i like about them is when they feel there is no other way they ACT and ACT swiftly with overwhelming force. i don't think there will be any more 'flotillas' of 'charity workers' with terroristic backgrounds attempting to force their way through the blockade any more.

I've got to agree.
Ever since I was old enough to understand the news Israel was on it on a daily basis. For years I never understood why so many countries would want to keep fighting and not even try to make peace. I was born in one of the best countries in the world (Canada for those who don't already know) so I never really knew how backwards certain parts of the world were. Eventually I learned though, and this is what I get from the whole thing.
Israel is a highly successful and educated democratic country smack in the middle of a bunch of the most oppressive and intolerant countries in the world. They feel threatened by their own immense shortcomings and Israel's success and do the only thing they know how, abuse.
If that's not bad enough there's the "holy land" issue. As usual the other middle eastern countries concoct some irrelevant religious claim and use that as fuel for a war.
But what really seals it for me is the fact that a terrorist organization is "running" Palestine.

Well until all the hype has died down we can't know what happened really. And in the end you'll have two stories, from different points of view.
i agree. however i'd like to add this: y's Israel always having to justify itself to the global community whenever it takes action to protect itself and its people? its always taking hits from all sides. it seems like a no-win situation for Israel no matter what it does.

First, in reply to Caliber.
Semite, is a term used to house a lot of cultures including Arabs, not many people know that. So you can't say to an Arab you're anti-semite, he can't anti himself.
Secondly, in regards to the video you're seeing, that's not a full version. The commandos started shooting even before landing on the boat, from the helos. When you're being shot at from above, and have no means to defend yourself, then suddenly your attackers land. What do you do? Play cards? This is a well planned attack on this ship, you can't expect anything else from Israel. They knew the repercussions would have been severe, in turn they would have some aces up their sleeve.

"As usual the other middle eastern countries concoct some irrelevant religious claim and use that as fuel for a war."
Irrelevant? Seriously?
You know you guys don't get to see what Israel even does, so that you'd call us being the ones who "abuse", I don't think anyone who is like on the other side of the world gets to talk about how cruel we are and Israel is the innocent one, you guys see what your media wants you to see.
