My old one doesn't work with Windows 7.

well what kind of dvd burning are you doing? like burning just simple movie files to dvd? or making your own with custom menus or whatever? For the first (burning movie files) I would use imgburn, just google it. It's not a suite but it's quick, and simple to use. for the second, i don't really know any good programs that are free unless you pirate them

I personaly use CD burner XP Pro (yes, XP Pro, but this is only name, works very well in Win 7 x64). Not need Nero or other huge solutions for simple burning. Try and then judge :-D

Essentially what I'm doing is making a complete backup set of my DVD library and then putting the originals away and using the copies as my primary discs.

So, I use DVD Decrypter which puts an exact copy of the DVD on my HDD, without the copy protection.

Then I want to burn that to a disc.

I used a version of Nero I got with my previous DVD burner and that worked fine but it doesn't seem to want to work under Windows 7, even in compatibility modes.

Most free suites, including the burning utility included with Windows, doesn't recognize the decrypted files as being media that can be burned. And even if it did, it wouldn't recognize the VIDEO_TS folder as being important, nor would it understand that it's a movie inside.

And the free version of Nero doesn't support burning video DVD's.

In the end they will lay their freedom at our feet and say to us, 'Make us your slaves, but feed us.'

This is what I found: Link

IMHO, you are expecting too much for a Freeware program. All the well known DVD burning suites cost money.
Life is best for those who enjoy it, difficult for those who analyze it and worst for those who criticize it.
