I'm only on chater 4 and i've come up against Odin i can't defeat him before the doom counter runs out. any comments on tactics, i'm using Symbiosis to start with then War & Peace and switching to Dualcasting in between.

try scanning him first then see what they say as to what he yields to . try this
Start the battle with MED/SYN to buff up everyone while healing.
Use Libra to scan his weakness. Then use a RAV/MED switching to RAV/RAV
until the bar is filled up. The bar fills up when you chain attacks, so
RAV/RAV will get it up faster than RAV/MED.
It may be better sometimes to keep RAV/RAV and use Potions to keep the HP up.
Especially if you spent some time gathering CP.

Adding to what ShadowRaider1 said - if you have shrouds Aegisol and Fortisol, I'd uses them before heading into battle to save time with the MED/SYN combo. I had a bit of trouble at the same part, Aegisol and Fortisol definitely helped a bit.

Hi ShadowRaider1 i start the battle with SYN/MED(Symbiosis) then COM/MED(War & Peace) switching to RAV/RAV(Dualcasting) so i'm not to far off from your tactics but i still can't fill up the bar? is there something i'm missing

It's ok now i've managed to defeat him

This approach of using the buffs helps pluse use offensive & Med tactics to beat Odin. You will get his gauge up in no time before the Doom counter ends your avatar.
