fellas i'm using Google Chrome. i really like this browser but there's one thing that i don't like about it. whenever i want to download something it automatically starts to do so...instead of my download manager. is there a way to turn auto-download off? i looked but couldn't find an option that allows me to turn it off.

Because if his download manager is Internet Download Manager 5.18 for example, it will fully use all his bandwidth, hence making it great when downloading patches, videos, etc.

exactly. with specialized download manager's u get resume download option as well as increased bandwith.
