Are you running in SLI mode? I had to shut that off just to get the game to work, was running into the same issues as you.

Are all of your drivers up to date (video, audio, and any basic motherboard drivers)?

In Vista and Win 7, have you tried running the game as an administrator or disabling UAC?

Verify that you are only running what services, applications, and TSR's you truly need to run prior to running the game.

Try rolling back video drivers to ones that may be more stable.

Make sure you ahve the latest version of DirectX installed.

That, ironically, is the very core of the problem if they're using Nvidia cards. The 191 series Nvidia driver is the cause of the problem.

Try rolling back video drivers to oens that may be more stable.

Install the 190.62 drivers, they work fine with the game. I was having the same problem and this solved it for me. Specifically, mine was having issues after the Guide woman contacted me, tho I resolved the problem so that I could continue playing the game so I don't know if there could have been other triggers.

Its your Nvidia drivers crashing and then stabilizing, mine did that twice now after hours of playing but no big deal ride it out till u have a screen again only took my pc 3 seconds to recover. Nvidia will address that problem in their next update.

First, thanks to everyone who replied.
Now, the machine im running is actually a laptop, so i can never find the proper drivers for that. As for the DirectX, ive got the proper one, of this im 100% sure. And finally what is SLI, UAC and TSR??

SLI is Nvidia's dual-linked graphic card technology. Allows you to split the rendering workload between 2 identical graphics cards.

UAC is User Access Control or User Account Control... some mess Microsoft came up with for Vista that's done more harm than gone, in the gaming world anyway. I had it turned off when I used Vista the very short time I had it.

TSR stands for Terminate and Stay Resident, it's all those background programs and services that tell the computer what to do when you move the mouse, for example. Many laptops generally do not have a lot of extra unncecessary programs running in the background. But I doubt this is your problem.

If you're running an Nvidia graphics card, I have yet to see a card based on their tech that won't run perfectly fine using Nvidia's drivers rather than the specific card manufacturer's drivers. In fact it's usually better with Nvidia's since they keep thiers up to date far better than the manufacturer's do.

Assuming you have an Nvidia card:
I would try uninstalling your current graphics divers, and install the 190.62 drivers from the Nvidia website. This may very well clear your problem right up.
