Does anyone know if I'm suppose to sell all my cargo or sell some of it to free up space. The book, is not really clear at all on selling. Plus how to you know which is which? I see two columns of values listing the number of items I have and then another. Can someone help me with this. Thanks!

The numbers are quantity and price. If the price is in red, it's a lousy price. If green, it's a good price. Different places want different resources, so prices will vary from place to place. To maximize profit, try to sell where it's green.

When to sell, well, whenever you want. If you are going to mine, make sure you have space. On the other hand, if you are going to craft stuff, you need certain resources on hand. (Determined by which 'recipe' you're making.)

I haven't yet found something that needs contraband, but if you have that onboard you'll get jumped by everyone. Either dump it, or make a quick run to a station to sell it. To avoid the hassle, I sell it at the first station, even if it's a bad (red) price.
