Unfortunately the trainer does not work with the Steam version (not retail).
You can however use 'AC Tool' (Link) to create macro's to use the game's cheats to the maximum.

Install the program and set the Global Hotkeys (eg. F2 and F3) so that you can start and stop a macro from within the game (Editor>Preferences>GlobalHotkeys).

Use this for example:
While 1 = 1 // infinite loop
Keys ^x // press ctrl + x
delay 3 // every 0.003 second
End
