360 would be the better console choice for me. ps3 just doesn't suit my gaming style

I never said that it was the deciding factor, only that it was a factor amongst many. I obviously didn't go out and see a PS3 on the shelf and think, ooh. A shiny DVD player. At the same time, I for one don't personally own a DVD player, I use my 360 or PS3. So knowing that I have a superior DVD player is a plus, albeit a small one.

In case you didn't notice my second point, I actually dislike the PS3 because it lacks the ability to play games from previous consoles in the Sony family.

my ps3 plays my ps1 and ps2 games. why does yours not?

Sony has made revisions to the PS3 in order to drop prices, the 20GB and 60GB PS3 use the Emotion Engine (EE) chips for hardware emulation, rather than the software emulation on the 40GB and 80GB PS3s.

I don't think I really have the right to decide which one's better (besides from the technical viewpoint, where the PS3 is far ahead), but I think they are about equally matched.

    What he said.
Also, the 20GB and 60GB are the only versions available in Australia now. I didn't mean all PS3's, just the stupid ones easily available to me.

I'll believe in God when 1 and 1 are 5

I just want to chime back in. The reason I made this topic is to find out why some people prefer one over the other. See I have both. I have played both. And i prefer my ps3 for 2 reasons my ps3 has a hdmi cable going int my tv so it is producing better graphics. and the controler. for whatever reason i prefer the set up of the ps3 controler to the xbox ones. But I think it is possible to use hdmi cables on the 360 (is it possible?) so that would likely eliminate the graphic edge ps3 holds in my home. so in reality I see little difference between the 2 systems. so with the 2 identical systems how do you pick one? well i vote sony. they have a much better track record as far as reliability is concerned.
for funs sake why dont you look up what sony has given the world and compare it to what microsoft has.

Blu-Ray does not have any real significant advantage over the 360's HD format, graphics-wise. The newer models support HDMI use, and produce the same quality graphics as the PS3. (I could rant about Blu-Ray for a while, on request only though)

And if you're going to boil it down to the companies themselves, then you have to consider the major things they've done.

Sony are undoubtedly more reliable, what with the excellent Bravia TVs and generally awesome home theater systems, compared to the recent collapses of major Microsoft products (Xbox 360 - RRoD and Vista SP1). However, I'll bet my two cents that more people around the world have a PC computer instead of a Sony TV. That alone is fact - it doesn't have to be Vista to be a PC. Hell, around 40% of the UAE's computer populace still uses Windows 2000, thanks to its reliability and bug-free use.

Reliability has only become a recent problem for Microsoft. Whilst you may argue Sony's never really had any reliability issues, the fact remains the Microsoft does way, WAY better in product sales than Sony does. The 360, XP, Vista, Windows Mobile and even Microsoft Office outnumber the Bravia, the home theater systems and the walkmans, including the Sony Ericsson company.

***Not an attempt to start any arguments just more info to back my own personal opinion***

chingy you stateed something along the lines of more people have computers than a sony tv. that is true and i will not attempt to argue something like that. But sony has done more than just make tv's your homes may have other sony products as well. they make many different products. And had a direct hand in the invention of many products you may have by other brands.
some very popular things that sony had its hand in invention include compact Discs and Digital Video Discs.

I've been with the Original X-Box and the 360 since they came out. The 360 is the one i will always go with. There are more and better system exclusives, and the multiplayer is well crafted and great(on most games).
