Any idea how to enable cheats on the Steam version of Soulstorm?

Does it not work the same as the retail one?

Actually... sort of... I got the console to appear but my problem is getting the cheats to work in campaign mode. What I was trying to do was use the bind command to set f1 to setsimrate(1), f2 to setsimrate(2), f3 to setsimrate(4) and f4 to setsimrate(8) (which is default I believe) so I can control the speed of the game.
I get a message telling me I called an unknown global variable (or something like that).
They give this an a selectable option in skirmish but infuriatingly do not in campaign mode. grrrr.

Has any progress been made on this issue? I have soulstorm from Steam and I have windows vista 64.
I downloaded the trainer, activated it and start up soulstorm. I hit F1 and hear the cheats activated. Hit 1 through 9 on the number pad with hearing cheat activated and all.
Then I start the campaign mode and click to attack my first territory adjacent to my star position and while the map is loading the game crashes.
Of course without the cheats on there are no problems.
