It clogs into the fan blades and they stop spinning. And since a jet engine works by sucking in air and blowing it out the back, if it can't spin, it can't suck in air and blow it out the back. A jetliner can fly on one engine so it could be ok but if both engines get clogged all the pilot can do is glide to a runway. It's possible but you'd have to be within a few miles of an airport or somewhere flat.
thats right. and they stop spinning because the ash actually melts into a sticky substance. thats cuz of the heat the engine makes.
