They FORCE you to update your game when an update is available. There is no way to stop Steam from applying the latest update to a game. (And if you're going to tell me that you can, you need to go read the three options in the drop-down under "Automatic updates" in the "Updates" tab of each game.)

This "feature" has been a royal pain quite often. I often have a version of a game I'm happy with and a CH trainer that works perfectly. Then all of a sudden BAM an update that breaks the trainer and I'm screwed. Can't run the game through Steam without updating it, so no way to stop it.

For me, this is the #1 reason that "obtaining games through other methods" is so important. I have three specific (older) games installed right now that I've purchase through Steam, but I do NOT run the Steam version that I purchased. I run a different version because it will NEVER update without my permission and therefore will never break the matching trainer.

I remember a time in the distant past when Steam would let you run your game without updating it, but they really blew it when they removed that capability. Thank goodness for the people who give me better options.

    Totally agree
Freedom is doing what we enjoy, happiness is enjoying what we do.

La liberté c'est faire ce que l'on aime, le bonheur c'est aimer ce que l'on fait.
