Hey guys, if you've played Ground Zeroes then Phantom Pain is pretty much similar. I found that setting shadows to low or off allows the game to perform beautifully even with everything else on extra high. If you guys have similar tips or ways to improve gameplay please do share.

If you have an Nvidia graphics card make sure you're on the 355.82 drivers. They're optimized for MGS.
Make a 3d settings profile for MGS and turn Ambient Occlusion to 'Quality'. In-game turn Ambient Occlusion to 'Off'. This turns off the games SSAO and uses Nvidia's HBAO+ which looks much better.

Just for reference, I'm playin on a laptop with A10-5757M 3.5ghz quad and amd radeon hd dual 8650+8750m graphics processor with 2gb vram. Ive got 12 gb total ram in addition. So if you've got similar or better, you're playthrough's gonna be smooth so long as youve got the latest drivers.
