its been awhile since I played this so thought I would download all the new dlc for it, when I got the champion I used the trainer to give him a few levels but unlike the last time he didn't get any extra traits on the traits tree unless I did it wrong, any help please

Correct, the leveling options on this trainer are completely worthless. All they do is change the level number - your units don't actually level up. Heroes get no traits, stats don't go up, just the level number changes.
The experience cheat seems to work, but that takes ages. Using the -cheats shortcut option gives me the "stuck at end turn" bug.
