ah good. i was hoping that the 10000 at a time was not just an error on my games part. 99999999 is way to much gold at a time for it to be effective when trying any sort of diplomatic options.

If you're having crashes when you lock the gold value I'm pretty sure I know why. If you edit it don't lock it and look at it again after maybe ten or so turns and a couple on map fights. You'll notice it's no longer the gold value anymore. The memory address is assigned to something else and sometimes that something else can crash the game if messed with. Best way to go about it is actively moderate your gold every so many turns. It only ever takes two searches to find the gold value so it's not really that much of a time eater either, especially compared to the wait for the other faction's turns. This is just what I've seen on my copy so it may be different for you.
